What our customers say about their holidays

We have stayed many times in Whitby and so knew exactly where this beautiful little cottage resided.
It was perfect! You exit the cottage and are thrust right into the hub-bub of the old town and very close to Tate Hill ('Pirate Treasure') beach the steps and Abbey where there is free parking until 1st March. We unloaded our luggage as close to the cottage as possible, relayed it in and drove up to park, soaking in the air and beautiful views as we walked back down. The ability to park at a residence is rare this side of town but definitely worth the faff. If you want space and parking at your front door, look to the outskirts of Whitby, most likely on the West Side where properties aren't so old or full of character. Once inside the cottage you could not hear the sound of the town (or surprisingly the seagulls for that matter!). There was the noise of upstairs moving around, but, again, an expectation with these ancient properties. I had noticed previous feedback questioning whether it was big enough for a larger family but, as a family that regularly camps, I knew it would be no problem for us. I can safely say that as a family of 5, it was actually bigger than expected despite the quaint name of "The Nook".... just a swift removal of some of the more delicate ornaments on arrival, out of reach of little fingers, and we were safe to enjoy our time. The kitchen has everything! We even spotted a whisk, slow cooker weighing scales and cocktail shaker! The kitchen was perfect for morning pancakes, smoked kippers from Fortunes and various evening fish pies and stews. It was also an opportunity to teach the kids how to wash up after themselves. The boys absolutely loved the bunk beds and continued to play 'Pirates' throughout our stay whilst my 7 year old daughter enjoyed the novelty of a grown-up bedroom upstairs to herself. All bedrooms had comfortable mattresses and were beautifully decorated. The lounge/diner decor beautifully suited the age of the cottage and the area's history perfectly. I loved how many of the trinkets had come from local shops, supporting the local trade. I was even inspired to buy my own scented diffuser oil, pots and stool whilst staying. I also loved the wine glasses and was thrilled to find them in the discount store on the West Side! My husband enjoyed the range of TV channels, including the opportunity to record the late night Superbowl (which I also appreciated as it meant he was not too tired to help parent the next day ;) ) We loved the wood burning fire after our chilly days out which really kicked out some heat, as well as the family dinner table where we ate meals and played lots of games, including Dominowes and Connect 4 which were found in the cottage. The patio (rare for this side of town) was also an added bonus for playing, sitting in and taking little shoes off before entering the property. The rainforest shower was incredible and the baths deep, hot and relaxing. The owner has clearly thought carefully how each space can be used to its full potential. There was one moment when we lost heat. The fancy boiler told us that the radiators needed bleeding (something I'd happily do in my own home) but a quick call to Sykes and a plumber was round in half an hour. All was promptly sorted and our holiday was not disrupted in any way. My only disappointment, having not visited Whitby for 6 years now, was that Scarborough Borough Council still does not recycle in this area of the East side - no problem for us as we simply took it all home to recycle in a giant bag but I'm sure there are many people staying who would be happy to do so. I mention this purely as a wider council/tourist issue, knowing full well that this is beyond the owner's control. As a full time working family we arrived exhausted and desperate to recuperate. Our week at The Nook was the perfect get-away and we have come home having bonded and fully recharged. Thank you Kate!

The cottage is in an ideal location from Whitby, being a short walk away - although up quite a steep hill.
The upstairs of the cottage is beautiful and the beds are super comfortable. The fans were useful in the hot weather. The inside of the cottage is pretty and has a beach theme. The downstairs is let down by the level of cleanliness. The cushions and throw were not clean and needed washing. The cushions were quite stained and smelly. I put them in the washer - but felt this should not have been necessary. The large rug was very smelly and needs replacing as there was a strong doggy smell. The kitchen had everything we needed although the cabinet doors were sticky and the pans were old and needed replacing. The microwave was faulty on arrival and we used the hob instead and let the owners know before departure. The furniture outside was comfortable but covered in bird poo that had obviously been built up over a long period. I wiped it down on our first evening and gave it a quick wipe when needed. But again, it needs cleaning at each change over and this clearly isnât happening which is a shame. We brought our dog and left her in the kitchen when we went out, we opened the under stairs cupboard door and put a chair against it, but a stair gate for this purpose would be useful and would keep the lounge cleaner. Our dog is very much part of the family but the downstairs did have a real doggy smell to it and even in dog friendly cottages this should not be the case. The chippy was lovely but the pub across the road has closed. We had a lovely week and none of this spoiled our holiday but the overall cleanliness downstairs and outside unfortunately let the cottage down which was a real shame.

Overall a lovely property, plenty of space for the five of us and clean.
Only downside seating in the lounge was a little tight. Weâd originally booked for 4 adults and 2 children and we would have struggled to all fit on the sofaâs. Thereâs a little wear and tear to the property but nothing that bothered us and wouldnât most people. We made use of the DVDs provided and watched a few films. Two small issues; one of the main bulbs in a bedroom had gone and tripped a fuse but we couldnât find the fuse box. However plenty of lamps in there and the number left to message for any issues was lovely and helpful and offered a quick solution. Heating had obviously been off for a while and the attic bedroom radiator was fully turned on. This meant the house was uncomfortably cold on the first night. Much better by the second day and we bought some extra blankets, as why wouldnât you on a stormy weekend in Whitby. Beds were really comfy. Plenty of space to pop away clothes in all the rooms. No issue with any of the bed linen or towels provided. Kitchen had plenty of cutlery and crockery with enough pans to get us through the weekend. Bathroom was clean and spacious. Shame we couldnât use the outside area for our morning coffee due to the weather but would have been fab in summer. Parking outside the property was limited as stated on the listing. We ended up parking at the bottom of the hill behind the train station. Only a short walk up the hill to the house or back into the town centre during the day. Not an issue at all for us and wasnât a negative to the stay. We would book again

The cottage was absolutely perfect.
In the centre of Whitby so within walking distance to all the attractions, very close to shops, and a 4 minute walk from a long stay car park. The cottage itself was clean, excellent facilities and had all amenities you could ask for. There were 4 adults and 2 dogs, and the cottage fit us all in fine. Beds were comfy, bathrooms were clean and kitchen had all the appliances you could need. I would highly recommend this cottage to anybody! Only negative-Was a little hard to find the property so maybe be more specific on the exactly how to find it, but the people of Baxergate street did help us eventually :) also, the hoover that was provided was not the best at cleaning up due to hair in the actual vacuum head and the filter, so they might need to be changed (only giving this feedback so the people who occupy the property next will be able to clean up a little better than we could before they leave, although we did use the dustpan and brush instead). Otherwise it was absolutely perfect :)
