What our customers say about their holidays

We very much enjoyed our stay in the cottage.
It was wonderfully and tastefully presented, the beds, sofa's etc all comfortable. All the appliances are modern and easy to use and we really enjoyed that the garden area was safe for our children to play in (they're aged 6-10). It was great to meet the owner on the first night and reassuring to know they were close by. The ceiling fan in the lounge was a blessing to help keep the room cool and although it was too warm when we visited to use it, the log burner is such a wonderful feature. It was great to have items such as an iron, outside washing line etc. The only minor points we'd like to feed back on is that the smaller bathroom could do with a handle on the inside, to help close it. Two out of our three children couldn't close the door because there is nothing suitable to grip on to. Everyone else was fine though and it was brilliant to have a second WC, as a family of 5. The only other very small point is that it would be great to have a heat-proof microwave suitable jug or similar, for heating things up in the microwave. All the china bowls and melamine bowls were microwave safe, but they of course get very hot and so it was tricky to use these for things like heating up beans, soup, making porridge in the microwave - I'm so sorry if there was one, but I missed it. We very much enjoyed the stay and wouldn't hesitate to return :)

Marc and Sarah are wonderful hosts and their little dog Ted is a real cutie.
On arrival we were pleasantly surprised with our cream teas and milk, orange juice and water in the fridge. The location of the shepherds hut is beautiful and peaceful and you really do feel like you are getting away from it all. It is also ideally situated near to some very scenic views, in particular the small walk to the Coombe Cellars restaurant and pub offers beautiful views along the river Teign. During our stay we were mostly blessed with ok weather but one day we did have a downpour. This was the most challenging day for us as Iâm a fairly big guy and struggled with having to stay in the hut during the evening. If I could offer one small suggestion for improvement it would be perhaps an awning or a small area that the outside seats could be put under so they could be kept dry and we could have still sat outside during the downpour. As it was we had to open the doors of the shepherds hut which attracted the insect wildlife. This really was a minor thing though and we certainly cannot blame Marc and Sarah for the British Summer. Overall we loved our stay here and we feel like weâve had a great, relaxing holiday. Thanks Marc and Sarah, you have done a wonderful job with the shepherds hut and thought of pretty much everything that people would need in their stay.

Wow! What a lovely cozy completely refurbished cottage with all our needs catered for.
We originally wanted a cottage with a real fire but we both loved the real like electric fire and decided it was better without the hassle of making it up after long walks bagging tors. The kitchen was more than fully equipped and everything was very good quality as the owners have a real detail for providing the best. The garden was lovely with the seating area but too cold for us to use but be lovely in the summer. Big spacious bedrooms with large king size beds and one en suite and even though we were almost on the Main Street it was very quiet. We loved the location being in the centre of Chagford with a good selection of artisan shops and being opposite Blacks the most amazing deli where we bought soups and cakes for our walks and three really lovely food pubs - The Three Crowns, The Globe and our favourite The Chagford Inn. We also recommend breakfast in The Old Forge Cafe. Thereâs an excellent wine shop selling local beer and cider and a bakery, greengrocers and butchers. We particularly loved the bell ringing on Tuesday evening for 90 minutes. We also managed to park on the street for free. We notice from the visitors book that many people stay for a second time and we can see why! Thank you to our hosts for making such a wonderful holiday stay

The cottage itself was lovely, very spacious and a good size for up to 6 people.
It couldâve done with a more thorough clean as we found a fair amount of dog hairs throughout obviously from previous occupants, the sofas could do with replacement due to the seat cushions being ripped right the way across the back on both sofas. Also, as other have said, the âprivateâ patio isnât private as it is also the access for the neighbouring cottage (farm workers) but in fairness, they were very quiet. The welcome cakes, milk, eggs, tea, coffee etc was a lovely little gesture and just what you need after driving to your holiday. It was a shame that the pool remained closed but this is understandable. However, we do feel this would be undersized for the size of the park (over 140 camping/caravan pitches) and also, of the two advertised fishing lakes, only one is open although this is a great little lake with some glorious fishing to be had. We would consider returning to this farm, but would have to have a look around at others before saying that we would definitely return.

We booked Oak Apple as we were visiting family in the area.
Our plan was for them to stay with us some nights. Sadly due to feeling unwell that didnât happen, we saw far more of the inside than weâd hoped!! It is a very spacious cottage, our stay was during a frosty spell but it was nice and warm from the underfloor heating. The place was well appointed and very modern but homely. The âworking farmâ noise wasnât too bad and didnât really disturb usâ¦.but like I said we spent more time there than weâd planned! Aunties Cakes were lush and the eggs tasty from the hens we met! There were plenty of fresh eggs daily. We didnât use the shop but it appeared adequately stocked but not an issue as the nearest supermarkets were within a few miles. A great base with plenty of room ideally located for exploring all of Devon, a very practical space. If youâre wanting total peace and quiet and country views this isnât the place for you!
