  The Waggon Shed is fantastic.

  Very homely and well equipped with a stunningly beautiful south facing garden, carefully tended with flower borders. Lovely table and chairs with comfy cushions for outdoor dining and an umbrella for when shade is needed. We were lucky enough to eat out every evening until sunset and most mornings. Well provided for in terms of cook wear and cleaning products, as well as oils and condiments and various other kitchen cupboard supplies. The welcome pack is amazing - homemade bread, local butter and cheese, fresh eggs, milk, chocolates, flowers, wine and even doggie treats. The downstairs double is roomy, with draws and a clothes horse but no wardrobe (hanging space next door in the central dining area). Lovely mirror in the deep window ledge. Roomy bathroom next door with large walk in shower. Upstairs (open treads) is a second twin bedroom with a dressing table/desk and wardrobe, a small single with just a bedside cabinet and chair, and a small shower room. There is a large lounge with a comfy sofa and log fire. A central dining hall that flows well to the kitchen and door to garden - very airy and bright. The owners live in the farm house next door and were super helpful of there was an issue (we needed a non slip mat for the downstairs shower for my mom with ability issues and it was delivered next morning). We were sad to leave and cannot recommend the cottage enough. There is a 1 mile flat walk to the nearby Bottesford village where there are several pubs and two great restaurants (The Thatch and Paul’s). Also a few shops, a Chinese takeaway and chippy. Beautiful church and small river. Within 10 to 40 minutes are lots of places to visit including Belvoir Castle, Belton House, Grantham, Lincoln, Stamford, Burghley House and Gardens, Clumber Park, Grimsethorpe house and gardens, Rutland water and church ….   We enjoyed a lovely week here, despite it being January.

  The cottage was warm and cosy to come back to after a freezing cold dog walk or trip out. The kitchen is well fitted out with all useful appliances and plenty of hot water. The welcome pack included enough supplies to start us off and our host brought over a warm loaf of freshly baked bread. How kind. The garden was secure for our two aging spaniels though a more lively animal might jump over into the field next door. The next village with shops, pubs, a smart restaurant and a station is only a mile away so quite walkable for active guests. Our favourite thing (apart from the bread and the wine) was the beautiful bed linen, a dream to slide into after a long day. The slight niggle was working out which light switch worked which light! Once we'd solved the puzzle we were OK. We didn't use the open fire as the central heating was plenty warm enough. Parking is easy and just a few steps from the door. The comfort rating is only downgraded due to the saggy seating at each end of the huge settee. And having all the appliance instructions in the same place would be helpful. Thanks to our hosts for a lovely cottage and a great holiday.

  What a fabulous cottage the Dairy is.

  The host, Gill, was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, even leaving us a welcome basket. The cottage itself is enormous and spotlessly clean. The cupboards contain everything you will ever need on holiday and there are so many lovely touches to the property, it feels like being in a very tidy, comfortable home. The property is set behind shared automatic gates that gives you that extra security for your vehicle and is easy to find. There isn't any internet, that might put some off but I was able to access it via my phone so was no trouble for me. There are really no words to explain just how fabulous this place is and although I have stayed in loads of cottages over the years, this, without a doubt, is the very best. Thank you.

  The mattresses for the single beds were too firm for comfort and a good night’s sleep. While bed firmness/softness is a personal matter, it would be helpful for customers of Sykes to have some way of knowing how firm/soft the bedding is for the accommodation they are considering booking. A three or four tier grading would suffice to give some indication, even if some subjectivity is involved, e.g. firm, quite firm, quite soft, soft, should be sufficient. Had this information been available, we would not have booked the Tollerton accommodation as the single beds would be classified as firm. Our friends slept in the double bed so we cannot comment on that one. Other than that, we found the accommodation enjoyable and well appointed.

  Lovely spacious and well equipped cottage.

  Plenty of room for 5 plus our dogs. The garden was huge and I'm sure would be lovely in the warmer months. Nice little touches like a welcome pack with milk, butter, homemade bread and wine, plus dog treats and towels, which just added to our stay. Nice peaceful location with some public footpath routes nearby, plus other options further afield. The village of Bottesford is just a few mins drive or about 20-30 mins walk, with a couple of shops, pubs and takeaway options. Grantham and Newark are also close by for supermarkets. Great location for a peaceful and rural stay, but close enough to amenities and walking options. Would definitely recommend The Waggon Shed for a delightful cottage stay.
