What our customers say about their holidays
Khloe - Verified booking
Firstlyâ¦.
I spent several hours trying to contact someone regarding the cot and high chair I needed, which finally the day before I was due to departure was reassured that they was there ready waiting for us. We arrived due to traffic at 1am Friday morning extremely tired with a 6 month old baby and then had to scramble around the house to eventually find the cot which was under the bed..still needed assembling! The cot was flimsy, un-hygienic with stains all over it and there was no mattress, which is disgusting! The highchair was upstairs in a cupboard and wasnât even a high chairâ¦it was a flimsy seat that my child was unable to use! The house was full of dog hairs and the bathroom shelves was still dirtyâ¦windows in front room was filthy! I have 2 dogs at home and no cleaning so I know that itâs hard to keep onto but itâs a holiday home that should be spotless and hygienic, which it was not! While I am on the subject of cleaning. The cleaner of the property pulled up at 9.30am on departure day outside the house waiting for us to vacate which was very uncomfortable. The baby was asleep on the sofa as he had several unsettled nights sleep when at 10.10 the cleaning lady bursts into the house and shouts âare you about finished, I have a tight schedule to clean this houseâ!!! This extremely rude lady woke the baby up and made us feel like children. There was no need for her to be so aggressive as we was only 10 minutes late which we didnât realise. The house is run down and in need of a little work to make it the standard that you are listing it at. The shower head kept falling to bits while showering! Tried to wash a few baby clothing items but the washing machine was full of dog hairs. Positive things are my mum said her double bed was comfortable and the location is great. And the kitchen was well equipped. I believe that the owners donât know whatâs going on with the cleaning side of it. The house isnât even having the basics done! I paid £800 for this stay which is massively overpricedâ¦I do want some of that refunded as this is listed well overpriced and due to our experience. I have used Sykes cottages for all of my holidays and never had a bad experience but this needs to be addressed especially if someone is taking a baby and expecting to have the basics there. I think itâs down to the company that is looking after this property as I donât think the owners has any idea the property isnât being looked after properly.

His is the first time that I have been disappointed with a Sykes holiday cottage, and I have been using your company for many years.
When we arrived on late on Saturday afternoon we noticed that both bathroom windows had been left open, the reason for this became perfectly clear the following morning as there was a vile smell that pervaded throughout the upstairs rooms, but was particularly unpleasant in the bathroom. So on the Sunday we bought some air freshener, but this only took the edge off it, although did prevent it spreading beyond the bathroom. On the Monday, I bought some drain cleaner/unblocker and poured it down the sink, this I left for 4 hours and then rinsed with hot water. Finally by around Thursday, the smell was all but gone. You have to understand that the smell was so awful it made me want to vomit. I have never known such a terrible pong, and i have worked in some pretty smelly places. So to the rest of the cottage, mostly it was alright, although we did think that the kitchen was a bit under supplied with cupboard space. The clock wasn't working, so we put a new battery in it, a light bulb went pop in the lounge so I had to change this too. The outside light didn't work, which didn't make for easy access in the dark due to all the steps. We used the washing machine mid week but then found that there was rather a limited number of pegs! The hot tub wasn't especially clean, with bits of the cover and flies floating in it whenever we used it. Certainly not upto our usual standard of holiday stays. Thankfully we enjoyed good weather when we were down for our fortnight, so we were able not to have to spend too long in the cottage. That said, we did like how the fence shielded you from the road noise. The walk to the cliff top was nice, and the views along the coast were spectacular at sunset. One of the positives of our stay were the guide books, as we like to do a fair number of walks, the local one through Tehidy was quite pleasant. It was nice to get the welcome hamper on arrival and to have milk in the fridge. I think my only other quibble was that it was very hard to get out onto the road as it is totally blind pulling out of the drive. If there was a mirror opposite it would make life far easier. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. Especially for the money that we paid. I have stayed in far nicer holiday cottages in Devon and Cornwall and will not be returning to this one.

Pebbles in Portreath is a fantastic property for people that holiday with dogs. We have stayed in many properties that accept humans and dogs. Pebbles works brilliantly for dog owners. The garden is totally secure, yep, totally. Very rarely even with properties that have an enclosed garden are they really dog proof. The garden is a very ‘clean’ area which reduces the amount of dirt that gets trampled in by dogs. The open plan living area with a sliding door to the outside makes it very easy to manage the dogs. If walking is your thing then you can enter the back garden by a side gate and hose down the dogs so they are clean before entering the property. Stair gates top and bottom ensure no rogue visits upstairs. We use gates at home so this was great to have in the property. There is plenty of room downstairs for our dogs’ crates without affecting the flow of the property so they can sleep how they are used to at home but our dogs are WCSs so crates for two labs might be a little tight. The human parts of the property have also been well thought out by the owners. The property is extremely well equipped. Plenty of crockery, cutlery and glassware. Some holiday rentals can be a little stingy but not at Pebbles. You could cook pretty much anything you wanted with the equipment in Pebbles. Here is plenty of space downstairs for a property of this size. The bedrooms are a good size and not cramped at all as can sometimes be the case with some holiday rentals. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. Especially the wine! Very nice touch. Croissants, milk, biscuits, tea etc all there for our arrival. The location of the property is very close to the harbour and beach but most properties in Portreath are. If Portreath is the sort of place you are looking for as a base for a holiday with your dogs you will not go wrong with Pebbles. One slight improvement, and it is the only thing I would change, would be a Dirt Trapper Mat by door to back garden for wet paws. We always travel with one anyway. We will certainly return to Pebbles in the future.

We stayed in the Rosebud House for a week and it was very pleasant. The place was very clean when we arrived and we had a lovely pamper box with tea, coffee, shortbread etc. which was so nice. Also few bits of cleaning products were provided. Although the house is small it was enough for 3 of us and had everything we needed. All kitchen stuff were brand new. When we arrived the TV wasn't working and was replaced within couple of hours!!! In the end we had a much bigger and better one. The service was so quick and helpful. The location is fine and not far from a shop, bakery, cafe, pubs and the beach. To improve the place it could do with less squeaky floors, more outside lighting as the outside seating area had none, the kitchen fan being installed more safely and the living room area lighting being less bright. It wasn't dimmable and was either very dark or extremely bright.

A superb holiday home, on a quiet road in a great location. The house is very spacious, comfortably furnished throughout and well equipped. It was spotlessly clean and everything we could have wanted was supplied. The large kitchen has quality appliances and plenty of crockery and cutlery. Excellent Wi-Fi and mobile phone signal. The private decked terrace is huge and is ideal for eating meals outside, sunbathing or just relaxing and enjoying the view. The lovely beach at Portreath is an easy, level walk from the house. Food, drinks and ice creams are all available there. There is a good choice of supermarkets around Redruth and Camborne, both within easy reach by car. There are many other lovely beaches worth visiting, like Porthtowan, Gwithian, Perranporth, Hayle and St Ives.We have had two very enjoyable 5-night breaks there and would definitely go again!
