About this property

This traditional, mid-terrace cottage lies on the edge of the pretty village of Penruddock, just five miles from the magnificent Ullswater. 2 Mellfell View provides a warm and welcoming accommodation, perfect for families looking to explore the Lake District. After a day of rambling the countryside and exploring the many pretty Lakeland villages, retire to the sitting room, complete with two plush sofas arranged infront of the woodburning stove, you’ll have no trouble relaxing here. There are two delightful bedrooms at this Lakeland cottage, including a king-size and twin, each with magnificent views of the Northern Fells including Mell, Blencathra and Carrock. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the wonderful cottage garden, take a pleasant relaxing stroll on the many footpaths throughout the area or a short easy walk across the fields. The cottage is just five miles from Ullswater and is ideally placed to explore, enjoy and relax in the lakes with its amazing scenery and lake cruises on the steamers that run between Glenridding, Howtown and Pooley Bridge. The famous, well photographed Aira Force waterfalls in the ancient woodlands on the banks of Ullswater are well worth a visit. Enjoy a day in Keswick with the wonderful Derwentwater and its lake cruises or you may prefer to take a small boat out. Keswick also has a good range of restaurants and pubs and holds a market on every Thursday and Saturday. Alternatively, take a trip over the scenic Kirkstone Pass to explore the life of Beatrix Potter around Windermere. Discover all that the Lakelands has to offer from 2 Mellfell View.

Set in a secluded position in the northern Lake District, the charming village of Penruddock is located between Keswick and Penrith, and is just four miles from Ullswater. This little town is spread across rolling countryside and is composed of many old farmsteads, traditional workmen's cottages and two churches. Penruddock can trace its history back to Celtic times, the name being derived from 'Pen', a Celtic word for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh and referring to the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. The popular town of Keswick is close by, boasting numerous shops and restaurants, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Century Theatre, a cinema and a beautiful lake. Penruddock itself offers easy access to the surrounding Cumbrian countryside and the southern Lakes, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall are all within easy driving distance.

It wasnt too much of a problem for me in April but not sure I would be happy with the heating on offer during a cold spell. Why arent the radiators being used?

Situated in quiet area, short walk across the field( signposted) to the Herdwick Arms( nice food, advise booking).Horse & Farrier at Dacre great food & real ale, again advise booking if eating in restaurant. Both dog friendly in bar area. Only small thing, think cottage is ready for a deep clean, couldn't put any clothes in the wardrobe as very musty( black mould in the top),some of the glasses smelt musty too. We had to pay a supplement to take the dog which isn't a problem but didn't expect the note on the table saying no sign of a dog had to be left & that we had to vacuum everywhere before leaving. Surely that's what the supplement is for? Dirty footprints throughout when we arrived so I mopped through.

For an older property it is very light and airy. We had cold weather with snow and it was great to return to this cosy cottage.
