About this property

Matfen 2.9 miles. Surrounded by countryside in the hamlet of Ingoe near Matfen, Northumberland is the quaint cottage at 5 Richley Terrace. The elevated position provides far-reaching, country views in a peaceful location, perfect for families, couples or friends seeking a relaxing escape in Northumberland. When you arrive, you'll find off-road parking for one car and an enclosed, front garden where you can dine al fresco and relax with a glass of wine, all while admiring the view. Be welcomed inside by the characterful sitting room with high ceilings, exposed beams, and sofas set in front of a gorgeous stone-built fireplace housing a woodburning stove. Moving through the cottage, there is a contemporary kitchen with everything you need to rustle up home-cooked meals, including an electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, and a washing machine to freshen up your walking gear. Completing the ground is the first of two bedrooms, a sumptuous king-size bed with Egyptian cotton linen, a dressing table, and bedside lamps. Upstairs, the second bedroom is a twin with sloped ceilings, Velux windows framing the countryside, and built-in storage. When it's time to venture out, you'll find country walks from your doorstep around Ingoe, whilst the village of Matfen is a short drive away for dining at the Matfen Black Bull or stocking up at the Dulcissima coffee house and deli. For a family-friendly day out, choose from a variety of activities in the treetops at Go Ape Matfen! Nearby historic sites include Hadrian's Wall, which is a short journey from your cottage and has Roman remains of forts, towers, turrets and towns, stretching 73 miles from coast to coast. The spectacular Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, the Roman village of Corbridge with Aydon Castle, and The Old Potteries are all worth a visit, whilst the National Trust's Wallington Hall has a beautiful walled garden and the Dragon cycle trail, a traffic-free and family-friendly route. A short drive brings you to the market town of Hexham where you can explore Hexham Abbey, picnic in Hexham Park, and choose from a range of restaurants and pubs such as Cilantro for tapas, The Tannery pub, and Danielle's Bistro for homestyle cooking. For more attractions, spend the day in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, brimming with museums, galleries, and a fantastic nightlife, or perhaps you'd prefer idyllic walks through the North Pennines AONB and Northumberland National Park? Plan your next relaxing holiday, whether that's with your other half or family, at 5 Richley Terrace.

Matfen is a Northumberland village 20 miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Matfen Village Store and Café, a welcoming spot to pick up self-catering essentials, and Matfen Black Bull, a delightful country local pub, are centred around the Matfen Burn. Just a few miles north is Hadrian's Wall, with a prehistoric standing stone, Stob Stone, nearby. The Roman road, The Devil's Causeway, passes the village to the west, leading north to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Matfen Hall is now a country club and hotel with a golf club set in lovely grounds. Enjoy a spa day or a round of golf on the excellent course. Adventurers can jump through the treetops at Go Ape Matfen's canopy rope course, or quad-bike with Turboventure.

From Ingoe we thoroughly enjoyed the many places in rural Northumberland that make staying just 7 days too short a time, so we'll return here soon (and that has nothing to do with the gifts awaiting our arrival. Many thanks).

Beautiful decor and very comfortable beds with lovely bed linen. Everywhere was spotlessly clean too. This property was a real find and a perfect base to explore Northumberland with many National Trust and English Heritage properties within an easy drive and the spectacular Hadrian’s Wall virtually on your doorstep. Very highly recommended property.

However we need a horizontal property and we would not have booked if we had known about the rough steps and sloping path from the road. That was very difficult for Mrs M. Inside was comfortable and well equipped but we could not get BBC 1 & 2 on the TV, so we had to use iplayer on the laptop to watch Strictly Come Dancing. Also could not get a wide-angle spray from the shower head. Bed and seating were very comfortable and it was easy to keep the place warm. When the sun came out it was very pleasant in the conservatory. Over all we enjoyed our stay
