When you’re ready to begin exploring this historic town, begin with a trip to the incredible and famous Alnwick Castle right on your doorstep, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as ‘Hogwarts’ when filming some of the scenes for the ‘Harry Potter’ films, so it’s a must-visit for any fans. The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant.
Heading 4 miles east is the picture-perfect coastal village of Alnmouth where there is a gorgeous golden sandy beach and painted houses set along the estuary. Loved this property it was one of the best places we have stayed in, a real home from home. They had thought of every detail from every utensil you could think of, to cling film and brews. Fantastic location, very clean and comfy and quiet. Very dog friendly with bed and towels and a lovely welcome gift of wine, crisps and biscuits. Also appreciated the xmas tree, will definitely return.

We didnt actually end up going on this stay due to an emergency hospital visit. I tried contacting cottages on several occasions using the local phone number that they provided in their welcome email (which every time an automated mesage said was unavailable) and mesages via the app. Nothing has been responded to and Ive just been sent automatic mesages thanking me for staying with them. If we had stayed there and had an isue there would have been no way of getting it sorted, poor service from cottages and something I would want to know if I was the owner paying them for such a dismal service.
