Beautifully appointed cottage in the heart of the dark sky national park. Exceptionally clean with comfortable furnishings. The kitchen has everything you need. Stunning views and the Alpacas are a real bonus. The hosts are on site, they were very welcoming and friendly offering suggestions of where to eat locally. Although we were a little unlucky with the weather when we arrived, the sun came out on our second day and it was very warm in the lovely south facing garden. If possible it would be useful for future guests to have a little shade provided and more comfy chairs would make the experience in the garden better.Be aware that the property is one mile down a rough track with loose sheep on and two gates that need to be opened and secured behind you. Also that the nearest supermarket is a co-op around 30 minutes away. So advisable to bring provisions with you. The nearest pub is in the village and serves basic but well cooked food, you do need to book and they seem to stop serving food around 7.30 or earlier if they choose. The local area is absolutely beautiful with lots of lovely walks, wildlife and views - Keilder water is not far away at all.We really liked the accommodation, and will consider coming back in the future because of the beautiful setting although we did find the track a bit of a bind.

The only thing wrong was the access the long potholed gravel track leading to the farm

We thought Merry Barn was fab - the cottage spec was top notch and its location and view were amazing. Loved watching the Alpacas especially the new arrival 'Ozzy Black Sabbath'.Caroline has worked very hard to make sure the cottage is set up so that when you need to find something its logical and it makes sense. The shower was great and the bed very comfy. Definitely worth a visitThank you to Caroline and Dave at Ferny Rigg.Andrew and Ann
