Merry Burn Barn, fully renovated in 2020, is set amongst beautiful countryside on a working farm. This tranquil location, close to Falstone with its friendly village pub, is set in the Northumberland National Park Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the largest dark sky park in Europe. On site, the friendly owners run Ferny Rigg Alpacas, the first licensed alpaca business in Northumberland, and the property’s kingsize bed features a luxurious alpaca duvet!
The views from the cottage guarantee a relaxing break whether a short break or a week stay, a different experience awaits, with fresh eggs often available from the owners’ hens. Merry Burn Barn also offers free use of ¾ mile of single bank fishing on the North Tyne (guests must have own fishing license).
Merry Burn Barn is ideal for those wishing to either escape for relaxation or for true adventure seekers wishing to explore the many activities around Kielder Water. The area along the water offers kayaking, sailing, fishing, walking and mountain biking with regular events throughout the year. The visitor centres along the water have a range of facilities from picnic benches and shops, to cafés and an on-site leisure spa. Lots of visitors love to visit the observatory, you don’t need be an expert as it’s fun for all ages.
Winter in Northumberland is as lovely as summer, with the scenery in autumn and the frosts of winter months making the surrounding countryside stunning. Whilst in the area a day trip to Hadrian’s Wall to see Roman forts is a must, or even a day trip over to the beautiful coast makes a lovely day out. Shop 10 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

We had a lovely stay at Merry Burn Barn - clean and well equipped, great location very close to walks at Kielder and several local pubs, with a Co-op and petrol station in nearby Bellingham (beautiful waterfall walk here as well). Hosts were friendly and the alpacas outside the back garden were very cute and amusing to watch! Would definitely recommend and happily stay again

What a fabulous cottage - clean, comfortable & well-equipped. We heard about it when we did an alpaca trek with the owners 3 years ago. We had such a chilled stay - able to enjoy the peace and quiet in the garden with wonderful views and watch the alpacas at the bottom of the garden. The bed is really comfortable and it’s so dark there, we slept so well! (Loved the alpaca duvet!). There is a rain shower in the bathroom - lovely and powerful if you enjoy a good shower. It’s quite isolated - perfect if you want a relaxing getaway. But only a 20 min drive to Bellingham and lots of great walks nearby if you enjoy hiking. We’d also recommend doing an alpaca trek whilst you’re there (you get a discount if you’re staying in one of the cottages). Would highly recommend this cottage!
