Guests say

Tarn House in Wooler is a spacious, comfortable cottage praised for its excellent location, large enclosed garden, and easy access to both town amenities and Northumberland’s attractions. Guests consistently highlight the property’s cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and thoughtful touches such as welcome packs. The house is dog-friendly and ideal for families, with ample space and private parking. While some minor maintenance issues and dated furniture are noted, these do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive experience. The friendly local community and peaceful setting make it a popular choice for repeat visits.

Most guests found the property spotlessly clean and well-presented, with only a few minor issues such as crumbs in the toaster, unwashed oven trays, and a drawer with forgotten clothes. These were exceptions rather than the norm.

The location is universally praised for its proximity to Wooler’s town centre, shops, and restaurants, as well as easy access to the Cheviot Hills, Northumberland coast, and Scottish Borders. The quiet residential setting is also appreciated.

Guests describe the house as spacious, comfortable, and homely, with comfortable sofas and beds for the most part. One review mentioned an uncomfortable bed in the back bedroom, but this was an isolated comment.

The house is well-equipped with a large garden, private parking, and all essentials for a pleasant stay. Some guests noted minor improvements needed, such as more bin bags, a new coffee table, and maintenance to the bathroom door and shower sealant.

Many guests appreciated the welcome packs, including wine, milk, biscuits, and dog treats. While these thoughtful touches are frequently mentioned, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

Tarn House turned out to be an excellent base for exploring Northumberland, and its location is easily its strongest feature. Set on a quiet, peaceful street, it’s only a few minutes’ walk from Wooler’s high street and the local supermarket, making everyday essentials wonderfully convenient. At the same time, you’re only a 15–30 minute drive from the best of the region: the beaches at Bamburgh, Seahouses, and Holy Island, the walks and scenery of the Cheviots, and larger towns such as Alnwick and Berwick. It’s rare to find somewhere that feels tucked away yet perfectly connected. The house itself is larger than the photos suggest, with high ceilings and plenty of room to spread out. We stayed as a group of four, and the children each had their own bedroom, but you could comfortably accommodate six without feeling cramped. The off‑road parking was a real bonus—just be aware that the drive is a little steep, so take it steady if you’re reversing in. There’s also space on the road outside if you’re arriving with multiple cars. The property was spotlessly clean, and the welcome pack was genuinely thoughtful: biscuits, prosecco, and even treats for the dog. It set a lovely tone for the stay and made us feel immediately at home. The décor is a little “no frills”, but we didn’t mind this at all—it’s simple, functional, and easy to relax in. Some of the bedroom furniture was slightly less practical than what some guests might be used to, but nothing that caused any real inconvenience. The living room windows are a great size and let in loads of natural light, but they don’t have blinds, which may make the space feel a little lacking in privacy during the evenings. The outside area is another strong point. It’s a good size, well maintained, and—importantly for dog owners—securely enclosed, which gave real peace of mind. It wasn’t particularly hot during our stay, but a parasol for the outdoor bench would have been useful on brighter days. Please note that the veg patch is private and we did have a bit of a surprise one morning when leaving as a chap was coming round to tend it. I assume it was a neighbour, but we didn't get chance to find out.Overall, Tarn House is a really excellent place to stay: spacious, clean, brilliantly located, and thoughtfully prepared for guests (including four‑legged ones). We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will definitely keep it in mind for future trips to Northumberland.
