Guests say

Starry Cottage is praised for its excellent location just a short walk from Bakewell’s centre, making it an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. Guests appreciate the cottage’s charm, comfortable beds, and dog-friendly policy. While many found it clean and well-equipped, some noted issues with maintenance, occasional lapses in cleanliness, and limited parking. The church bells and traffic noise are mentioned but did not detract significantly from most stays. Overall, guests enjoyed their visits and would consider returning, especially for the convenience and character of the property.

Several guests found the cottage clean and inviting, with some describing it as the cleanest they had stayed in. However, there were notable complaints about missed cleaning, dog hair, grubby towels, and a serious pest incident. These mixed experiences suggest cleanliness is generally good but occasionally inconsistent.

The location is consistently highlighted as a major strength, with easy access to Bakewell’s shops, cafés, and walking routes. While some mention traffic noise and church bells, most guests found the setting ideal for exploring the area.

Guests frequently mention comfortable beds and sofas, and the cottage is described as cosy and homely. However, some reviews note lumpy beds, tired furnishings, and noise from the road and church bells, which may affect light sleepers.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, but several guests reported maintenance issues such as a broken shower, faulty vacuum, missing essentials, and a rundown washing machine shed. Parking is not directly outside and can be challenging, though a permit is sometimes provided.

Hosts are described as friendly and communicative, and the property is dog-friendly. However, guests noted a lack of basic supplies (toilet rolls, soap, logs, milk), and no mention of welcome gifts. Please note that any gifts or extras are not guaranteed.

lovely cottage in a good location , but very tired and needed some updating and care. very few cleaning products with less than 1 quarter of toilet roll !. few cooking pots and no kitchen foil. beds very lumpy and pillows require a new set in both bedrooms , only pillow protectors on two of the four pillows in each room . towels grubby looking and very small bath towels , two had black oil marks on them . floor in lounge needs sticking down, only three chairs in kitchen as one broken , although offered to come and replace during our stay . shower grubby also .A shame as could be an excellent holiday retreat .vacuum cleaner would not work and house needs an inside tall sweeping brush .

Beautiful cottage! Very clean and well equipped with everything you need. Lovely comfy beds and sofas! Loved the front bedroom with the lovely view of that magnificent church! and Loved to hear the clock chiming! The cottage is perfectly situated a very short walk from the shops, pub, and cafes. Our favorite for evening meal was the red lion pub, great food very reasonably priced! Very friendly staff, recommend booking a table though at peak times because does get busy!. Loved staying at starry cottage and would love to stay again hopefully later in the year. Didn't find parking to be a problem, we parked the car for whole stay (4days) on Bakewell bridge car park payed via web site (£30) Didn't think too bad!

Loved staying at Starry Cottage, the cottage is nestled in a very beautiful, quiet village. Ideal for a base camp for exploring the Peak District. (Especially the Dovedale Stepping Stones and if you want to venture further Sheffield) The cottage was clean and inviting and absolutely would stay again.
