PARK HALL MANOR sleeping up to 28 guests

This Grade II listed manor house is set within 14 acres of natural grounds, together with the occupied adjoining servants’ wing, and has been sympathetically converted, retaining many original features to provide comfortable accommodation for families wishing to meet up for that special family occasion, and wi-fi is available in the living room.
Perfectly situated just off the main road between Glossop and Chapel-en-le-Frith, the pretty hamlet of Little Hayfield provides an ideal base for walking or touring all the Peak District has to offer. In the village, Tony Warren created the television series Coronation Street and the village is now home to the annual Hayfield sheepdog trials and country show which takes place in September each year. Situated just 1 mile from the charming village of Hayfield in the narrow valley of the River Sett, it is surrounded by some of the wildest hills in the Dark Peak, a popular base for exploring the Sett Valley Trail and walking on Kinder Scout. For many years Kinder was barred to walkers, being preserved as a grouse moor until interrupted in 1932 by the famous Kinder Scout Mass Trespass! There are excellent walks literally from the door and a good variety of traditional pubs within walking distance. Close by and just a short drive away are the caverns around Castleton, the plague village of Eyam, the popular walking village of Edale and the attractive village of Hope.
For guests who enjoy visiting stately homes and gardens, there are several notable places to visit in the area. Just 3½ miles from Bakewell, the spectacular Chatsworth House is set in extensive parkland with a backdrop of wooded, rocky hills leading to heather moorland. The house itself contains a collection of paintings, furniture, old master drawings, neoclassical sculpture, books and other artefacts. It was built in the 17th century by the first duke of Devonshire and has been in the family ever since. Both the house and grounds (redesigned by Capability Brown) are open to the public and they make for a memorable day out. The small estate village of Edensor is also worth a visit; it was remodelled by the sixth duke for his employees.
Impressive Haddon Hall is another stately home to visit. Originally dating from the 12th century, it is a fortified medieval manor house which has featured in many films and TV programmes, including the BBC’s 2006 production of Jane Eyre and the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. It has a fine collection of English, Flemish and French tapestries. A visit to the stately homes in the area would not be complete without seeing Lyme Hall in Disley - a fine, Italianate house which featured as the home of Mr D’Arcy in the BBC’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
The towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Glossop and Holmfirth (setting for Last of the Summer Wine) are all an easy drive, as is Manchester with its excellent shopping. Shops 1½ miles, pub ¼ mile.

"Very nicely prepared and all equipment present."
"Lovely location but house in need of modernisation. Inadequate kitchen facilities for large parties. Some bedrooms hostel like in feel. Value for money questionable."
"Had a wonderful time at Park Hall Manor and found the house keeper most helpful. The house is obviously old and a little scruffy around the edges but the sitting room and dining room are very impressive and the bedrooms are lovely. But do note, two or three are joined, therefore you have to walk through one bed room to get to the other, (we were a party of 17 adults and 6 children so this wasn't a problem at all ) The bathrooms i.e. showers need updating (towel rails or hooks would also help) but we had plenty of hot water, (we ALL had to get ready for an early morning wedding so we did put it to the test)! As others have mentioned the kitchen is small for the size of the house and definitely needs some TLC. I arranged with the Lantern Pike to provide all our main meals, that was a supper for the Friday we arrived, a sit down Wedding Breakfast and a light meal that evening. Therefore we only had to organise breakfast for ourselves and as we were sadly leaving Sunday, we went across and had a cooked breakfast at the Lantern Pike. I can't recommend enough, the Chef (Chris) at the Lantern Pike. All the meals he prepared were superb, he and his team (Leanne, Meggan and Rachel, I think) came over, got everything ready, served and clear everything away. Amazing value for money and an asset to Park Hall .... which in turn means the kitchen doesn't become an issue for you. So in all a lovely place to stay and I certainly do recommend. P.S. If I may make a suggestion it would be great if toilet rolls could be provided for the duration of ones stay and also a small fresh hand soap in each bathroom. Plus a check that the windows can all open."
"Had an amazing stay here, celebrating my wife's 50th birthday. would recommend it."
"Park Hall Manor was perfect for what we needed it for. If you're looking for luxury it's not for you, it does need a bit of TLC especially in the bedrooms and bathrooms. However, it was very clean and everyone who came on my Hen Do loved it! :)"
"We had a wonderful time celebrating my parents 60th wedding anniversary (and their 90/85th birthdays). However it was spoilt by the waste pipes which were broken in the kitchen so we had water and foul smells in the kitchen, downstairs and upstairs bedrooms. I fell over on the slippy floor but no broken bones. The back garden needs looking at, shrubs cut down so easy to fall over the trunks and the old flower beds are now full of grass so very difficult to see the bricks, Mum and Dad were asked not to go passed the paved area."
"We had a lovely family occasion covering 9 days with various family members. The manor is clearly in need of attention (especially to the kitchen) but it was good to be able to relax without having to worry too much about causing damage or letting the children run around. It's in a lovely location for walking the peaks and for general sightseeing of the area."
"We'd be delighted to come back to this spacious and spectacular house in a beautiful part of the country. Plenty of room for lots of fun even in the rain. Only two issues: it was very cold when we arrived, so I'd ask the host to turn on the heating a couple of days before you get there. (No fires or wood burners to provide an instant hit of heat). And the kitchen is quite a long way from the dining room, so if there are 20 or more of you there's a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with plates/food/etc. I'd suggest that they provide a trolley to carry things back and forth."
"Poor, small and underequiped Kitchen for the size of house. Heating not very controllable. And worst of all was the unbearably noisy pump which meant sleeping in a couple of rooms was vitually impossible. Great location, and lounge and dining room very grand. Real fires and some decorating / maintenance would improve it a lot."
"Everything went pretty well apart from one of the boilers not working for the first night so some rooms were very cold. Unfortunately the boiler was in one of the private locked rooms so we couldn't tweak it ourselves. We phoned them the following day and they soon came and fixed it."
"The perfect weekend retreat. I had a 65th Birthday weekend celebration with family and friends. The whole atmosphere was wonderful and, without exception, all my guests loved the house, grounds and location. Dinner was catered for by the local Inn, the Lantern Pike, and was exceptional in both quality and price. An unforgettable weekend."
"Kitchen inadequate for large group catering. Lounge comfortable and dining room was ok. Some beds need slats repairing and showers required attention so that the water could run away! Kitchen utensils required cleaning before we could use them. Two showere doors had to be repaired also the front door and washing machine door. "

"A little bit hard to find, but once you arrived Park Hall was everything you expected and more. The rooms were spacious, luxurious and there was plenty of them! Excellent weekend break. March 2012."

"Fantastic house and grounds. The bedrooms were all very clean and elegantly decorated. The dining room had a huge table that was great for our dinner party, though the kitchen on the small side for the size of the house. The Lantern Pike pub opposite was very friendly and accommodating - good pub grub. The Pack Horse in Hayfield had fantastic food and the upstairs room with own bar (at no extra cost) was great for a large number, especially with children. Oct 2011."

"Lovely spacious accommodation. Great dining room. Fine base for walks. Kitchen rather small and cramped for size of group. Dec 2010."

"Genuine country house, the large dining room and comfortable sitting room and the location with close proximity to both open fellside and village - all good. Oct 2010. "

"The property was suitable for our large family party but, as it was warm, we would have liked to open some of the windows, which were painted shut. July 2010."
    Previous guest
"The accommodation was really excellent. Plenty of space for all 28 of us who stayed there - the second lounge is a good idea. Also the large dining room was brilliant so we could all eat together. Also an excellent base to explore from. July 2010. "

"Park Hall Manor was just absolutely beautiful. From the outside to the inside we couldn’t fault it. Everything we could have needed was at the property and although it’s such a large house it really did feel like home. The owners were very nice, helpful and discreet even though they are on site. Even a lack of water on the final morning did not spoil things and the owner was very good about it. The only downside was the gardens - the top part of the gardens were very nice but the bottom meadow was very wild and it would have been nice it was more usable (it also played havoc with hayfever!). June 2010. "
