Cottage was lovely great garden for the dog. Lovely quiet location perfect for escaping. Cottage had everything we needed. Nothing is too far on the Isle of Wight, our longest journey was 30 minutes. .Would not hesitate to book again

Southview is a potentially lovely place to stay in a convenient location to visit many attractions on the island. The property is small, but has everything you need. There is, however, an urgent need for a large amount of TLC. The kitchen is well equipped albeit with a lot of cheap and cheerful items e.g. saucepans. The cottage was only basically "clean" and certainly more than a little careworn in places. It is in need of a major paint and refurbish job.The windows need cleaning both inside and out.The mattresses are old and only improved in comfort by mattress toppers. The information book says that visitors should not alter the settings on the electric radiators, but this is something that should be a personal choice. The info also says that there is a heated towel rail in the bathroom and an adjustable shower with 3 settings for flow strength. This is untrue. The point at which the towel rail has been removed is clearly visible. As a result of no heating in the bathroom there are areas of black mould on the ceiling over the shower. The shower appears to have been replaced with a cheapo unit allowing only a thin trickle of water. There appears to be a lot of unnecessary clutter in the cupboards and wardrobes.Over all the interior of the cottage could be described with the one word. TIRED!

Our expectations, based on others reviews, were quite high but on entering the cottage we were very disappointed by the level of cleanliness, in particular. We appreciate the cottage is old, but the smell within the building was stale and the furnishings, upholstery covers, bedding and towels/tea towels etc were extremely old and tired, making them look dirtier than they probably were. There was no heating at all in the bathroom, which meant used towels were constantly damp, with the cleanliness of the shower and toilet being very poor too.Water in both the kitchen and bathroom were dangerously hot and could potentially cause injury due to the speed at which it became extreme.Storage within the main bedroom was full of unfolded linen and towels, which off put us from hanging our clothes, so we left them in our suitcases instead. The aroma, especially in the kitchen, was so strong that we ate out and only had one microwave meal during our stay. The final straw was due to being badly bitten by some form of insect in the bedroom, on both face and arm during one night which didn't become apparent until later the following day. We therefore decided to book an earlier ferry and head home, cutting our holiday short by 2 days.Overall, we found the Isle of Wight to be a pleasant island (other than the inclement weather at the time of our stay). The owners of the property seemed pleasant and left us to get on but the property was a definite disappointment.A suggestion would be that a good airing, a lick of paint and fresh linen would bring the cottage to life, as well as adequate heating in the bathroom.
