Guests consistently praise The Carthouse for its well-equipped facilities, cleanliness, and comfortable setting. The working farm location offers a unique experience, with many appreciating the rural charm and proximity to local attractions. The hosts are frequently mentioned for their helpfulness and warm welcome, often providing thoughtful touches like cakes and tea upon arrival.
The majority of reviews highlight the property's cleanliness, with guests describing it as immaculate and well-maintained. One review mentioned the kitchen being sticky and the shower looking tired, but this seems to be an isolated comment.
The location is highly praised for its quiet, rural setting on a working farm, with easy access to local sights and amenities. The peaceful countryside and the farm environment contribute positively to the experience.
Guests find the cottage very comfortable, mentioning the quality of the beds and the overall homeliness of the property. There is a single mention of foam pillows not being as good as they could be, but overall, comfort levels are rated highly.
Reviews consistently commend the property for being well-equipped with everything needed for a stay, including kitchenware, toys for children, and an enclosed garden. The only minor issue raised was regarding the heating, which was promptly addressed by the hosts.
Many guests mention the thoughtful gestures by the hosts, such as welcome cakes, tea, and flowers. While these gifts are warmly received and contribute to the positive experience, it is politely noted that such personal touches, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.
This thoughtfully-converted old cart house is superbly located on a mixed working farm, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the delightful village of Shorwell on the Isle of Wight. Caringly appointed throughout to provide spacious, comfortable accommodation, this Shorwell cottage is perfect for couples, friends or families looking to get away from it all and enjoy the sheer beauty this part of the island has to offer. Set entirely on the ground floor, this Shorwell cottage offers a light and spacious sitting room with dining area and French doors leading out to the garden, along with a fitted kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms, one of which has a king-size bed.
You will enjoy stunning countryside views from the sitting room, kitchen and twin bedroom in your Isle of Wight cottage. Outside, you will find an extremely large, private lawned garden with patio area, perfect for enjoying an energetic game or two, or simply relaxing with a morning coffee as you watch the daily life of the farm. The beautiful, historic village of Shorwell was developed around St. Peter's Church and its three manor houses, of which West Court is the oldest, dating back to c.1500. Queen Victoria is said to have favoured Shorwell over any other village on the Isle of Wight.
Apart from outstanding walks and exhilarating mountain biking, just a few minutes' walk from your Isle of Wight cottage you will find The Crown Inn, as featured in the AA's Britain's Best Pubs 2011 and 2012, and well worth a visit. Just outside the village, why not explore the west coast beaches of Brighstone and Compton Bay, where at low tide you might be lucky enough to spot the odd dinosaur footprint? Alternatively, head up the road towards Newport and you will discover Carisbrooke Castle, a must for all the family. The perfect Shorwell cottage from which to explore this wonderful island, any time of the year.

It is well furnished and comfortable. The owners are pleasant and listen to any shortcomings that we mentioned which were put right very quickly. The property is situated within lovely countryside and easy reach of the main shopping area at Newport.

I don't think that the photographs do it justice and we were surprised that the twin bedroom looked out onto the drive because I hadn't got that impression from what I'd read but perhaps I'd not read it properly. This in no way detracted from the property and it was interesting to see the farm vehicles going up and down as we've worked in farming communities. Depending on my husband's health we hope that we'll be able to stay again in the future. Julie Russell is so helpful and a lovely host.
