Set in its own walled garden which is completely private, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is ideal for those seeking a romantic getaway. Part of the Groves Estate built for Sir William Lynch in around 1750, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is surrounded by high Grade II listed walls which shelter a gloriously sunny garden, spanning around a third of an acre, which is bursting with unusual plants and flowers including a fig tree. Here you will find your very own secret garden, a perfect retreat into countryside tranquillity – well away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Inside, the detached cottage has been renovated with a smart bathroom and a new kitchen installed in 2021. As this cottage is small it might not be appropriate for guests with limited mobility. The medieval local village of Staple has a friendly pub/restaurant and Wingham and Sandwich are a short drive away. Canterbury is less than 10 miles away and is full of a great variety of shops and restaurants. There is a great choice of beaches nearby including Broadstairs, Sandwich Bay and Ramsgate.
Please note this is a rural location and the WiFi can be intermittent or slow at times.
Gamekeeper’s Cottage is perfect for couples who want to spend some quality time together; those in need of peace and escape can wander around their own ’Garden of Eden’, before exploring the beautiful countryside and nearby coast – the best Kent has to offer. Even France is accessible with the Eurotunnel, and the ports at Dover and Folkestone close by. There is a bus stop within walking distance with buses running to Sandwich and Canterbury.
Please note the cottage is very rural and the Wi-Fi can sometimes be a little inconsistent. Gamekeeper’s Cottage can be booked together with The Bothy (UKC1061) to accommodate up to 6 guests.

We enjoyed a short stay at Gamekeepers Cottage, which has everything you need and is set in a very peaceful location. Excellent value for money and thoroughly recommended.

I can't fault the location of this cottage close to Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate and Ramsgate plus other towns. Goodnestone gardens was close by.A couple of criticisms is the lack of space for clothes I appreciate it's only a small property but a few coat hangers above the boiler no where to put any other clothes. Nice kitchen convection microwave was good and the hob, plenty of plates etc. we planned to have an omelette but the 2 frying pans were I have to say disgusting one was rusty and the other similar. Not sure when they were last checked. All other pans were fine.Cleanliness seemed fine although under the settee looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while I only noticed as I dropped something which went underneath.The cottage is advertised with WiFi but I only managed to connect to it twice very poor signal needs improving.Good shower but the rail was loose and the shower head kept slipping down the pole which wasn't helpful I did manage to trap it also some of the tiles above the shower base needs to be regrouted as it was going black in several places On the whole great location very quiet nice to see rabbits, bats at night and other animals nice to have a walled garden to ourselves It is a great cottage friendly host
