Guests say

The Barn in Chipping Norton is praised for its stunning aesthetics, peaceful location, and spaciousness, making it an ideal retreat for relaxation and exploring the Cotswolds. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, well-equipped children's play area, and the thoughtful touches like welcome packs, although these are not guaranteed. Some guests suggest improvements in signage and maintenance.

Most guests found The Barn to be spotless and well-cleaned, with clean bedding and utensils. However, there were isolated complaints about a stained mattress and bathroom odour, which slightly affect the overall high cleanliness rating.

The Barn's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to local amenities, and as a base for exploring the Cotswolds. Difficulty in finding the property was mentioned, but it remains a highlight for most guests.

Guests consistently mention the comfort of the beds and the spaciousness of The Barn. However, some guests found the sofa uncomfortable and the mattress in the main bedroom to be unsatisfactory, which affects the comfort score.

The Barn is well-equipped with a children's play area and fast broadband. Criticisms include a lack of TV instructions, insufficient toilet rolls, and issues with hot water supply. These maintenance concerns impact the facilities score.

While guests mention welcome packs with prosecco, nibbles, and flowers, there is inconsistency in what is provided, and some guests found the welcome pack underwhelming. As gifts are not guaranteed and reviews vary, a score cannot be accurately provided.

Not luxury accommodationSofa low, hard to sit on together as cushions flat and stiff. The large chair was comfortable once you climbed upon it, however you have to bum shuttle off or the seat. The furniture is not suitable for anyone with a back problem.MATRESS - in main bedroom is BLOOD stained, with lots of other FLUID STAINS !!! This is evidently an old mattress with the amount of stains on it.A lot of reviews have said what a comfortable bed it is!! Had the stains been seen I wonder if they would say the same again. We saw them at the end of our stay, we got up early and thought we would strip the bed for the cleaner, this is when we discovered it. It also dips badly on one side.A lot of people say it’s comfortable, I wonder if they would have said had they seen all the horrendous stains in it ?! Bathroom smelt like public toilets, the Lino needs replacing. Bleach stained, water marked.Bath side panel is damaged all along the floor edge, wood peeling off.Sink stand is stand, tin mirror rusty, this maybe the look, but not classed as luxury.Hot water ran out before bath was of a good depth.Fire glass was not cleaned, or made up.We did this ourselves. No fire glove to open fire door with a metal handle or to place logs on fire once lit. We had to use the oven glove.Warm with under floor heating.Oven and utensils very clean.IKEA crockery and utensils.Bedding clean.Barn was cleaned well by the cleaner.Tatty blanket in the lounge, throw on bed had a whole on it.Items missing Milk jugButter dish Napkins kitchen rollAsh bucket for cleaning the fireGlove for the fire had to use oven glove No main stream tvYo can Only downloaded apps to watch tv, not even free view No instructions for use of appliances Pointless having a bathTried bath but tank rank out of hot water No serving bowl for oven ie Pyrex oven tonight ableIkea plates glasses No serving spoons only wooden No towel change there for 7 days I have taken images of all of the above complaints if anyone wants them to be verified!!There are a lot more cheaper actual luxury accommodation in this area.We would not return unless all of the above was rectified.New sofaNew mattressBathroom floor and side panel changed Great area.Local pub the lamb (just 4 min all) great food and very, very welcoming.Shipton under whychwood is a beautiful village, just don’t stay here. We had a fabulous week generally speaking, - the bed was very comfortable and the Barn was spacious, lots of 'quality' items and equipment/utensils. Lovely big plump towels and absolutely gorgeous location. The wood burner was fabulous, being November, we did use it every evening. However, on reading reviews prior to arriving, there were a few things I would have expected to be addressed ie items 1 and 4.1 - Only ONE measly toilet roll for a property sleeping four - for a week! Was mentioned in a previous review, no improvement. Don't expect to go on holiday and have to take a pack of loo rolls, maybe a few spares is all.2 - It was freezing in the Barn on arrival at 4pm, the heating was on but quite low and it does take some time to heat up at it is huge and with a high ceiling. Plus only two small logs available, despite the ad description saying first logs would be provided and the fire made up ready to light. I message the owner and eventually a neighbour called with logs. My hands were numb by this time.3 - The ad also mentions a 'welcome basket' - twice in fact. I tried to find out what this contained, not wanting to duplicate any necessities - I was told by the owner that there wasn't a welcome basket, then told, yes, there was but not of practical items. It actually contained apple juice, shampoo, body wash and ground coffee - none of which were needed. We visit UK properties a few times a year and usually there is a bottle wine, bread and/or biscuits, or similar. If no welcome items, fair enough, at least we know what to take. There were a few other (used/open) items available which I think other guests had left.4 - Previous review had mentioned there were no TV instructions - still none. We tried most of the first evening trying to sort out how to use it - no luck. Messaged the owner - she didn't respond regarding any instructions so I ended up re-joining Netflix which we could use.5 - The sofa was very uncomfortable. Hated it. Tried to plump up the seat cushions - made no difference. The above are the reasons we rated 3 stars from 5. Hope future guests have a better experience.
