St Mary’s House is an elegant Grade II listed Regency-style town house with Gothic Revival architectural features. The holiday property is approached through two wrought iron gates and overlooks the shared south-facing garden and circular gravelled driveway. Just minutes’ walk from the Penzance promenade and a short stroll to the delightful Morrab Gardens; famous for its banana plants and rare sub-tropical species. Set on three floors with an original staircase and high ceilings the property exudes memories of a bygone era. Penzance is an ideal location for exploring the delights of West Cornwall including the legendary Lands End, the white sand surfing beach at Sennen and the historic town of Marazion with St Michaels Mount rising from the sea like a fairytale castle. The Mount can be reached on foot by causeway at low tide or by small ferry boat at high tide. Marazion attracts birdwatchers from all over the UK to the marshes, a true wildlife haven. Penzance has a long flat promenade, leading past the open-air lido to the busy fishing harbour of Newlyn, one of the leading fishing ports in the country. Newlyn is also famous for its art school and galleries. Continue along the coastal path to the quaint harbour and village of Mousehole. The area has an abundance of restaurants, cafés, delis, shops and art galleries. Take a day trip to the beautiful Isles of Scilly by sea from Penzance or small plane from Lands End airport. A trip to the Minack Open Air Theatre is a must, cut into the rock face with the ocean as a backdrop and overlooking pretty Porthcurno Beach with its golden sands and clear waters. The area offers some amazing cliff and coastal walks and attracts visitors all year round. Shops, pubs and restaurants 70 yards.

We absolutely loved this holiday, the house is fabulous for its location, situated right on the edge of a picturesque town, plenty of local amenities, the charm of the original features, beautiful garden and plenty of space for parking, tropical gardens next to the house were so beautiful. House was spotlessly clean and they even left us some lovely welcome gifts. Neighbours are lovely too.The house rattles and creeks a bit so walking around can be heard from above and beneath. The washing machine therefore should not be put on in the evening… other than that it was incredible, we would definitely be staying again.

Great central holiday house good parking easy walk to town in minutes as well as prom Suited our family with 3 adult children lots of space and hot water wi fi what you would expect in Cornwall ! Windy one night windows rattled put a 2 inch wad of cardboard between sash window frame .it happens with old windows the price for one week was a bargain in July would definitely come again .not five star the price reflects this but comfortable enough for an enjoyable holiday

The house is in a perfect location, as described on the website, and the sea views, proximity to the beach, town centre and the lush Morrab Gardens are a major factor in why we chose to come back and stay here again. The “property exudes memories of a bygone era” including the tired, shabby and often faulty or broken fixtures and fittings within, with a very strong smell of cigarette smoke permeating the house. The window catches are rusty and broken, the fragile shelves in the fridge collapsed and the creaking beds were bolstered with foam - and expense really is spared when it comes to bedlinen and pillows. There was a dead pigeon all wee k in the garden and the instructions for bin collection are out of date. The week we were there was food waste and separated recycling - there were no instructions or bags/boxes for these at all. The welcome milk and prosecco were appreciated but not enough cutlery or loo roll and only 2 dishwasher tablets. Really stingy especially as this year's rate is significantly higher than last year's. We are interested to know whether cottages.com actually follows up any issues raised in these reviews or exercises any quality control or standards for the properties it lets out through its website. With some consideration for guests and basic outlay on the part of the owner this could be an absolutely wonderful no frills holiday rental - but certainly not in its current state!
