Peacefully situated in gorgeous 10-acre grounds, this 17th-century cob-and-stone cottage is in Sampford Courtenay village, 12 miles north of Chagford. It’s one of a pair of holiday properties sharing the extensive gardens and is bursting with country-style comfort. Within 5 miles of beautiful Dartmoor, it’s great for a Dartmoor walking holiday.
The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with vaulted ceiling is great for cosy evenings beside the wood burner which is resplendent in its feature fireplace - share sociable family meals, enjoy a favourite DVD or plan outings together. Two bedrooms – the master king-size and the single – are on the ground floor, sharing a Jack and Jill bathroom. Upstairs in part of the roof space is an open-plan twin bedroom with seating area and shower/WC; this has limited headroom for those over 6ft tall. Overall the style of the property is bright and elegant with exposed beams and subtle decor. Your private patio and garden are through French doors from the kitchen area where you can enjoy alfresco dining, complete with sun-loungers and a BBQ for sizzling feasts. In the gardens, wander among well-planted borders, wildlife-rich streams, and mature trees. There is lawn space for croquet and room for children and dogs to run and play.
The village pub is within 500 metres and Chagford’s shops and Sunday market have excellent local produce. RHS Rosemoor Garden and Dartington Crystal at Great Torrington are both fascinating days out within 18 miles. 12 miles away, Castle Drogo, the last castle built in England, overlooks the Teign Gorge. Dartmoor’s varied terrain offers a range of walks, some circular and many including a welcome pub stop! Westward Ho! is the nearest beach, 28 miles away.
