Kirkbymoorside 8 miles. 1 Rosedale Abbey rests in the heart of the picture-postcard village of Rosedale Abbey, near Kirkbymoorside, offering a welcoming stone cottage that’s well suited to couples, friends or small families looking to switch off in the North York Moors. Step inside and you’re greeted by a cosy living/dining room, where a woodburning stove takes centre stage, just the thing after a day wandering through the valley or striding across the surrounding heather-clad moorland. The kitchen is thoughtfully equipped for home cooking, making it easy to settle into a slower rhythm of breakfasts, packed lunches and hearty suppers. A ground-floor bathroom, complete with bath and shower over, basin, heated towel rail and WC, completes the downstairs layout.
Upstairs, two inviting bedrooms, a double and a twin, provide comfortable spaces to rest weary legs after riverside walks or afternoons exploring the wider moors. To the rear, the enclosed lawned garden with outdoor furniture offers a pleasant spot to enjoy the fresh Yorkshire air, whether that’s a quiet morning coffee or a relaxed evening drink. Parking is available, and with pets welcome, dogs can enjoy the open countryside too. A village pub is just nearby for a well-earned pint, and the river sits within easy reach for gentle strolls. Kirkbymoorside offers handy amenities, while Pickering tempts with its heritage railway and market town charm.
Helmsley is also within driving distance, known for its castle ruins and independent shops. With sweeping landscapes and characterful towns all around, 1 Rosedale Abbey makes a fine base for exploring this beautiful corner of North Yorkshire.
The attractive old market town of Kirkbymoorside lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in between the towns of Helmsley and Pickering. It is a charming place, full of Yorkshire character, and is the centre for the local farms and villages. Visitors will find a variety of shops from tea rooms, pubs and restaurants to antique shops, while there is a market day on Wednesday. The excellent walking and magnificent scenery of the National Park are close by, as are the picturesque villages of Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham. Pickering is the base of the North York Moors Steam Railway - a ‘must do’ day out for all visitors to the area. Castle Howard, York, Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast are within easy driving distance.
