Guests say

Marwhin House is a spacious, beautifully decorated holiday home set in a tranquil rural location with stunning views. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped kitchen, as well as the extensive grounds ideal for families and dogs. The house is described as even better than the photos, with tasteful furnishings and a cosy atmosphere. While the lack of Wi-Fi and a narrow driveway are noted, these are minor compared to the overwhelmingly positive feedback. The property is highly recommended for a relaxing getaway and exploring the surrounding area.

Multiple reviews highlight the house as spotlessly clean and tidy, with no reports of cleanliness issues.

The rural, peaceful setting with beautiful views is frequently praised, and the location is described as ideal for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. The only minor negative is the narrow, winding driveway.

Guests repeatedly mention the house as warm, comfortable, and spacious, with very comfortable beds and a cosy ambiance.

The property is described as very well equipped, with only minor suggestions for additional baking trays and a note about the Aga taking time to heat. The lack of Wi-Fi is mentioned but does not detract significantly from guest satisfaction.

Guests appreciate the helpful and attentive housekeeper and clear instructions, but there is no mention of gifts or welcome packs. Please note that any such gestures are not guaranteed.

About this property

Surrounded by the Galloway Hills, this detached, pet friendly property has dramatic views towards the Solway Firth and Cumbrian Hills.. "Idyllically set on a 3000-acre estate..."

Enjoying an idyllic situation on the 3000-acre Crofts Estate, surrounded by the Galloway Hills, these holiday cottages have enviable, dramatic views towards the Solway Firth and Cumbrian Hills beyond. Accessed along a private drive, and adjoining a cluster of well-maintained estate buildings, Stable Cottage (ref UUD) makes a romantic hideaway for two, offering stylishly furnished accommodation – its walls adorned with the original work of various Scottish artists. The larger Victorian detached Gardener’s Cottage (ref UXT) has been elegantly furnished, and features an attractive shared garden with a bridge over a burn and a small waterfall. Arkland Mill (ref sttz) stands detached with a lovely large garden, a summerhouse and its own bridge over the stream. Marwhin House (swwr) and Marwhin Cottage (ref swws) also stand detached, situated within 25 yards of each other, still with there own privacy, the latter two properties being set in gardens with a delightful stream and pond. Woodland walks and hillside trails radiate from the doorstep. Dumfries lies just 12 miles away, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and museums, as well as a good theatre. Castle Douglas (8 miles) is a traditional market town with individual shops specialising in food and local produce. There are many beautiful beaches within easy reach along the Solway, and the National Trust Threave Gardens, 8 miles, makes for an interesting day out.
