Altabrug sits in a stunning location and is situated within 8 acres of croft land and is an ideal base from which to explore the Outer Hebrides. A short drive takes you to Eriskay, where you can catch the ferry to Barra. You can also catch the ferry to explore the isles of Harris and Lewis.
The Uists Islands are an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts, artists and photographers, as well as bird watchers, walkers and people with an interest in archaeology. There is fantastic birdlife and wildlife, where eagles, corncrakes, whales and basking sharks are all regular visitors. Walking is a delight with amazing wildflowers and the pristine white sandy beaches are stunning.
There are many historic and archaeological sites to explore, including The Bonnie Prince Charlie Trail, Trinity Temple at Carnish and the Kildonan Museum. Beach ¼ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 8 miles.

We rented this house for a week in July 2026. The house was very comfortable and well set out. It was all clean and catered for everything including any visiting dogs (we had our dog with us). There were some useful ingredients in the cupboards that could be used. Plenty of utensils and equipment throughout the house. Bed was very comfortable and clean. There are windows facing all aspects from the rooms including a west and north facing from the main bedroom (in summer able to see sunset and noctilucent clouds without getting out of bed!). Would be good for aurora in appropriate months too. Useful conservatory type porch for changing coats, shoes. Also good washing and drying facilities in separate rooms away from the bedroom so no noise. Very fast Internet, faster than our mainland connection! Excellent for wildlife watching. Many hours watching the short eared owls flying right past the windows and hunting, even resting on the washing line. Whimbrels, swans, divers and ducks etc near or on loch within view of the cottage. There were plenty of wildflowers and butterflies around although the clegs were less welcome!!!! Good quiet walks straight from the door. Easy to visit all the Isles from here, even did Barra and Vatersay this year. Situated in a lovely position next to fields and a loch. This is clearly someone's old family home with lovely nicknaks and pictures around. Lots of books and games in the property. All in all, it was fabulous. The only thing I would say is that the directions for the last mile to cottage a bit obscure although google maps took us straight there.

Very well equipped cottage inside,, beautiful view from all rooms,was great watching the owl every day, the road upto the cottage needs trimming back as set off the sensors all the way. Outside needs some tlc, but didn't effect the inside. A very enjoyable stay overall

Stunning location. Cottage was beautifully cleaned, comfy and well equipped. Owners were very helpful. The area is teeming with wildlife.
