What a lovely "cottage". the location is perfectly placed for day trips to all parts of the southwest Scotland.Getting to the "cottage" it's actually a 1950's railway coach that has been cleverly converted to provide 3 good sized bedrooms. a living room/kitchen and 2 toilets. The Kitchen has everything you need to have meals in the Carriage.

Loved the originality and authenticity of The Carriage. Eric was very welcoming, helpful and informative. Plenty of places nearby to explore and some lovely places to eat (home cooked) would highly recommend a stay here and may even go back ourselves 😁

We had such a lovely time at The Carriage! Such a fabulous, quirky stay! The accommodation was really comfortable, the beds and showers were great, we had everything we needed…and all in a converted railway carriage! We even managed to eat out on the lovely decking area a couple of times, which was a surprise considering the weather hadn’t looked like it was going to be very good at all, but we actually had sunshine most of the week! The owners were lovely and very welcoming and even though the Carriage is in the grounds of their home, they were very respectful of our privacy. The local area is also beautiful, with Castle Douglas nearby boasting some lovely eateries. Moores Chip Shop and Sambuca restaurant were particular highlights, as was The Steamboat Inn, a little farther afield in Carsethorn. We also had an amazing trip to the Dark Sky Planetarium in nearby Kirkcudbright.I visited with my elderly mum who has some mobility issues, but she got on fine in the Carriage, although it’s worth noting there’s a step up to get in if you have anyone with you who would struggle with that.On the whole, a brilliant holiday in a beautiful, quiet area and the uniqueness of the accommodation just made it perfect.
