Lovely gatehouse with great views over the estuary. 15 minute walk (or 3 minute drive) to the Nith Hotel which serves good food and the Boathouse, which is a lovely tea/coffee shop. The house was fine for the three of us and the dog. The garden is enclosed so safe to let the dog out. There are small things which could be upgraded like the kitchen knives, which were pretty blunt, but overall it was very comfortable. The local attractions, other than Dumfries, are generally about 30-40 minutes away. My friend and I played golf at Powfoot (a bit samey, but quick, sloping, tricky greens) and Southerness (beautiful course, great views of the sea and excellent hospitality).
