Nestled in an idyllic private woodland setting, Forest Lodge offers a lovely relaxing retreat close to Kippford, often described as Scotland’s ‘Riviera’. Locals refer to this area as ‘The Golden Triangle’ - Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford - and frequent visitors understand why. The climate is temperate as Galloway is touched by the Gulf Stream with many golden, sandy, and often empty beaches to explore. For excellent views of the Rough Firth estuary, the Jubilee Path is highly recommended. This was named to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and is the main path between Kippford and the equally charming village of Rockcliffe. There are wonderful views out to sea, and the path passes Mark of Mote, a 100-foot high granite outcrop, with a Dark Age settlement on top. Rockcliffe and Sandyhills (with a beautiful sandy beach as its name implies!) are small Victorian bathing resorts close by.

Really nice stay here. Loved being visited by the local runner ducks every day at the gate. Nice peaceful area and enclosed garden perfect for dogs.

Just back from a really enjoyable stay at Forrest Lodge, The place was spotlessly clean (would love to know what they use on the leather suite) plenty of utensils and crockery ( did miss a sieve though). Seeing previous feedback was a bit dubious no need. The enclosed garden was clean and our Daschound loved the freedom and running around. Yes the road in has a few pot holes (not a track as described elsewhere) but it is a private road shared with other properties on the way to the lodges available here (if you have ever had a shared driveway you may be well aware how difficult getting party maintenance agreed). No towels as described, but also NO welcome pack glad we stopped off to get milk etc on route. Weather was bad so going out meant wet feet. Car parking is outside the gate not inside on the gravel as led to believe in photo. On first evening had problem with T.V sent text to owner less than 20 min later he was there with a replacement T.V. Owner very friendly and totally approachable. We were greeted on the first morning by 7 geese at the gate and they popped back on several occasions that was lovely. Would we go again most definitely if we could guarantee the weather (yeah I know) Rockcliffe beach is very tiny when the tide is in but ok when tide is out free parking about 200 yds from beach and very limited parking at beach head and only for 20 min. Sandycliff beach is vast and lovely sand and able to let the dog run free parking here though is £6 payable in the shop for token to exit, shop prices are very high. For groceries would recommend the drive over to Castle Douglas, Aldi and Tesco aprox 7 miles away. Kippford has a lovely little marina. To Rob and his family thank you for an enjoyable stay.
