You are ideally placed to enjoy walks from the door, being a stone’s throw from the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal which runs through the village. This opens up a peaceful paced walk as it winds itself through the striking countryside of Mid Wales, and introduces the industrial heritage of the area with the World Heritage Site of Big Pit Museum and local iron works. You are ideally placed to explore the Brecon Beacons National Park with its abundance of walking, cycling and pony trekking, or you can explore the thriving market town of Abergavenny, renowned for its local produce or perhaps take the opportunity to visit some renowned restaurants for a romantic meal, with restaurants, including ones with Michelin Stars being a short drive away. The area offers numerous outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, fishing and local golf courses. A short drive will take you to either to the stunning mountain landscapes of the Brecon Beacons National Park or the meandering river of the Wye Valley. Slightly further afield, to the south, you have the cosmopolitan city of Cardiff with its vibrant waterfront, castle and Millennium Stadium; it is a truly diverse city which acts as a gateway to the sweeping sandy beaches of South Wales. The picturesque village of Gilwern, situated amidst the Brecon Beacons National Park, offers visitors many amenities including traditional pubs, shops and a great fish and chip shop. Covering approximately 520 square miles, the National Park surrounds the village providing excellent walking, cycling and bird watching as well as great salmon and trout fishing on the river Usk. Abergavenny, the aptly named Gateway to Wales is nestled in the nearby hills and has something for everyone. With its many indoor and outdoor markets, magnificent castle and museums this medieval market town is sure to delight any visitor. Offering fantastic walks for all abilities as well as its own vineyard, the nearby mountain of Sugarloaf is well worth visiting. No matter what time of year, this wonderful little village has something in the area to suit all tastes and budgets.
