What our customers say about their holidays

This property was perfect for us as a family of 4 with a 6 and 2 year old.
It is in the middle of nowhere safe and secure, surrounded by stunning scenery but still within and easy car ride of Anglesey, Caernarfon, Llanberis and other places of interest in the area. The space has really been maximised well and was more than adequate for us for the week. The bedrooms are spacious even with the sloping ceilings, the stair gate was in place as we requested, the bathroom space has been used so efficiently and it was great to have a separate bath and shower with young kids, kitchen has every pot, pan and utensil youâd have at home with is a rarity in a holiday cottage, living room is nice and comfortable and the utility space at the back with the washer drier was a god send for us for the kids beach wear! Everywhere was clean and comfortable and even with the wet Welsh weather we were blessed with at times, the cottage was warm and comfortable. The welcome pack provided is detailed and appreciated- itâs lovely to get a bit of history of the cottage and the local area. Louise, the owner, is just next door and came to check in with us on our first day to make sure everything was ok, which we really appreciated and when we had a couple of questions during the week she responded quickly to texts - again much appreciated! Other than that we only saw her down in the horses field from the window; I read in an earlier review that the owner being next door gave a lack of privacy, I have to say we did not feel that at all, she was completely unobtrusive. She did come to say bye as we were leaving and check everything had been ok, again friendly and appreciated- thank you Louise! My girls loved that they could see the sea from their bedroom window and that they could see the horses and goats whilst sitting eating their breakfast - the goats in particular provided them with a few laughs! Highly recommended and we canât wait to come back :)

A very tired house, furniture downstairs really needs changing.
Walking into a house that smells musky, the sort of smell my granny's house smelt like in fact isn't something that is nice being on holiday, putting up with it in my grans house is one thing, a holiday home completely different. The cottage was filthy, grease on the kitchen walls and utensils isn't nice and I needed to wash cutlery before feeling that it was safe to use. The grill didn't work and therefore I couldn't cook any bacon but thinking back I wouldn't have wanted to, the roasting tray with the too small grill rack in it was very greasy, the oven smelt of a deep fryer. There were cobwebs all over the place and it was pretty dusty. The duvet sheets smelt musky also. Very disappointed with this cottage, if we hadn't of managed to walk up snowdon with our 3 year old we would have returned home earlier than planned but we did manage to walk up the mountain and therefore too tired to drive the 4 hours back home. We stayed with a 3 year old and it wasn't nice to be holidaying in such filth as a young family. Not sure why it is rated 4, it is far from it although has great potential. The owners aren't just nearby they are on the doorstep, pictures to this cottage needs to include where the owners house is because it is deceiving if never stayed before, the description needs to change to the neighbours are next door instead of nearby, nearby is an understatement. Although they weren't looking over it felt like they were and the privacy was almost gone, had we of known how close they were we would never of stayed. We feel really disappointed as sykes is a reputable company and we expected much better from them, it has damaged our confidence and will never book again through sykes, it has almost put us off staying in cottages full stop.

A very cosy, traditional cottage in the centre of Ambleside.
Parking for 1 car outside the front door. Extremely quiet location. Small rear garden is a bonus. Accommodation was clean and compact. The loft twin room has limited headroom (not great for my 5'10" daughter) and has no door but was warm and had comfy beds. The 1st floor double bedroom was spacious and the bed was extremely comfy. Lovely view of Loughrigg from the window. Lounge was cosy with a gas fire and 2x two seater leather sofas, a dining table and access to a very handy understairs laundry cupboard. Washing machine and tumble dryer were easy to use. The kitchen was small but had everything needed for cooking. The underfloor heating was in here only and was set at 16° but this was too low as the kitchen was always cold. A mild heat could be felt on the floor by the sink. Bathroom was airy, clean and warm as it housed the water tank and gas boiler. Shower was powerful and the bath was a much need bonus after a day on the fells. There is a separate lockable bike store if needed. Loads of books, games, jigsaws and dad's. The only negatives were the cold kitchen and that there were no curtains on the kitchen door or window and on the landing window (this had a net curtain with clear glass!!) I like privacy so stuck kitchen roll over the kitchen door widow and used tea towels on the landing window. We are already planning to return next summer. Overall we give the cottage 8/10

Firstly I would recommend this lodge it has fantastic views of the castle. It is on a quiet road which is the back road to Budle Bay. It does have other lodges either side of it so not really private if that’s what you want. I did ask up front about privacy so was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t more private as I was told it was the most private one, having said that we would return and not be put off by this. I agree with previous reviews regarding having to turn on the boiler to make sure you have hot water etc as this is not anything that you are advised of before check in or even as and when you arrive. It took quite sometime to get through to the office to understand why we had no hot water on the first day. The main en-suite bedroom is only a double bed and so quite small but we are used to at least a king size bed. The other issue we had was a very over flowing refuse bin which clearly had not been emptied for a few rentals after making the office aware they did attend to it the next day. All in all a lovely place to stay but could be even better with just small attention to detail issues which could be avoided.

The Lodge is in a good location about 1.5 miles outside of the village. It has excellent views from the open plan ground floor and from the decking outside towards Bamburgh Castle - better than most other Lodges on this site (the view was key to us choosing this one). The Lodge was clean, the beds and seating comfortable and making the most of the open-plan layout. The location is great for visiting sites in Northumberland - Alnwick; Lindisfarne, are within half an hour and the excellent Castle at Bamburgh on your doorstep. The Lord Crewe hotel in Bamburgh is excellent for food and service. Don't miss (on a calm day) a trip to the Farne Islands from nearby Seahouses to see the puffins (if right season) and seals. We had excellent weather, and with the Lindisfarne National Nature reserve extending to the bay just over a mile away from the Lodge, plenty of opportunities for both birdwatching and beach walks. We loved the Lodge and the area and would love to come back another time. Thoroughly recommended - we went as a party of two couples.
