What our customers say about their holidays
Susan Marie - Verified booking
A fabulous week in a beautiful location.
The cottage is extremely homely, clean and inviting. The lights had been left on for our arrival and we were welcomed by a bottle of wine and a box of Celebration chocolates. All beds were super comfy and clean. Towels were large, fluffy and smelt delightful as did the property when we arrived. The Kitchen had everything we needed to make our stay a home away from home. Morrissons was also a short drive away. The lounge was beautiful and there were amazing views from every window, this was also the case downstairs. The enclosed garden was amazing for my daughters and my 2 dogs to explore and was one of the tidiest gardens I have ever been to in a holiday cottage. There was also an extremely clean BBQ and seating available to use at leisure. Edwin greeted us on arrival and showed us how to use the cooker and made us feel very welcome. He also made it very clear if we needed anything at anytime to make contact, which was reassuring being there on my own with two children. The house was a great place to explore South Wales. Pembrey National Park was amazing for the beach and forest walks. The dogs and my daughters loved it. It was £8 to park all day. There were many activities you could participate in and clean toilets and cafes on site. Tenby was also a beautiful place to visit for shopping and the beach. As National Trust members there are many National Trust places to visit. We especially liked Dinefwr, dogs were also welcome. We visited castles and many other little villages/towns. The Red Lion (less than 3 mins drive from cottage) recommended by Edwin, served amazing food and staff were friendly and welcoming. We booked as suggested by Edwin and we were really glad we did because it was full and this was on a Wednesday night! Both Edwin and Mary came to say farewell, which I thought was a lovely end to the holiday. Thank you to Edwin and Mary for sharing your beautiful cottage and gardens with us. We will definitely be visiting again.

My husband and I have absolutely nothing negative to convey relating to this perfect weeks holiday in the Lake District (including fine weather).
The warm welcome at "The Orchard" by Mrs Shirley Band was much appreciated, showing us over the property and answering our many questions. Our first impressions of the accommodation was that it would suit us admirably, and so it proved to be. Quiet, all-round comfort, including lovely beds (good night's sleep assured). Obviously much thought had been given to the accommodation including all necessary appliances. The location, in order to explore the stunning Lake District area, could not have been better. On most occasions, we drove the short distance to Windermere, where we parked for free all day in a convenient side street, using our Concessionary Travel Bus Passes to explore its many attractive locations - particularly great for the car driver who would have normally missed so much of the areas outstanding panorama. In closing, mustn't forget to mention the Welcome Tray presented at the time of our arrival, including a large scrumptious chocolate cake, a slice a day for each of us, lasting for quite a while. Overall, a memorable holiday in every respect. Should we ever return to the Lake District, if available, "The Orchard" would be our preferred accommodation. If not, Sykes would be our choice to select a comfortable holiday cottage.

Iâm sorry to say we did find it difficult there due to these things - The stairs to living room are very steep and the individual steps very narrow so difficult to get up & especially down.
There was no mention of this in the details or we wouldnât have booked it as my husband has not long had knee surgery. The only Tv was up in that room as well so had to go up but one of our dogs wouldnât go up at all& the other wouldnât go down once up so it was hard work carrying them (& dangerous too)! The doors would not stay shut at all none of them including bedrooms- the bathroom door needs a working lock on it as itâs right off the kitchen! The dogs could just barge in & leave the door open! These were the main things and unfortunately were things that would definitely stop us booking again! The surrounding were nice & the owner was nice & did say to call on him if we needed anything but there wasnât anything he could have done about it whikst we were there anyway (however it does need to be put in the details about stairs). If we had gone a few months ago my husband would not have managed these stairs at all. But is able to manage other stairs fine. Plus there are several locked doors that go straight through to the owners house as well (werenât a problem for us) but which were not mentioned in the description. It felt damp and musty in the whole house as well (& we are used to living in a very old house)!

Spent five days here with our two cats that are normally house cats but we like to give them a taste of nature with their harness's and leads attached.
The grounds around the cottage are superb for walking your pets (cats or dogs). The cottage itself is really roomy with lots of space for a family, it's full of character but with all mod cons ( strong wi-fi, dishwasher, smart TV etc). The weather turned a bit nasty for our last couple of days but we lit the wood burner (which made the place even cosier than it already was) and watched some movies, such a relaxing break. If you don't want to use the wood burner there is plenty of heating throughout. There was a washing machine in the bathroom and the host even provided some soap capsules to use, there was lots of tea and coffee in the kitchen and a fresh bottle of milk in the fridge for our arrival as well as a nice bottle of red wine and chocolates on one of two dining tables. I can't recommend this cottage enough, we really enjoyed our stay here.

Nice old fashioned cottage in a peaceful village.
Good village shop for essentials. Some nice local walks and not too far to drive for local sightseeing. Cosy and generally well kept. Some attention needed, mainly to the outside windows, garden approach (a bit overgrown) and garden itself to make it a lovely place to sit. The information guide was handy but out of date - the Indian takeaway 'Number 3' prices had gone up at least £2 so I have replaced the outdated menu with a new one, other menus probably need updating too. The fish and chip van/pizza man doesn't always come on the days listed. Neither came during our stay. It would be handy to provide a Facebook link for visitors to check as they seem to update here if they are coming or not.
