This review is late in coming to you because we have been away since occupying Flat 27 Bigbury on sea and is further to communications with Jackie and our interaction prior to our booking and having read the complaints during the summer about this flat.
On entering this flat one is amazed by the size and the views. However within twenty four hours of arrival you realise that this flat has been well used and most of the things in this flat are past their best. It has been cleaned to a superficial level but the dirt is in nooks and crannies that only a deep clean will cure. The list below is only some of the faults many of which have been noted in the visitors book particularly this year. Talking to the caretaker we were informed that the owner has not visited for nearly a year and he is left to do running repairs. It is in need of TLC, are his words. In the Kitchen the fridge has no Ice tray and no fridge light. There is no freezer which is a requirement in a holiday flat. The toaster has crumbs under the tray and on the tray. The toaster needed it's crumb trays washed. Waste food bin had grimed in dirt around the rim Knife block greasy, no small paring knife and some were purchased All glasses needed washing before use Dishwasher had no salt or rinse aid in it. Washing machine was too complicated and unable to activate the drying cycle Lights under shelves not working and shelves not clean Wooden tray not clean and all Items on tray not cleaned eg sugar bowl dried sugar solid and pot for tea bags filthy. In the Lounge the television was not very modern so disappointing not to obtain iPlayer or Netflix The light by TV does not work possible a loose wire Windows not very clean smeary ad balcony glass surround needs cleaning. Robertâs Radio very smeary Dust ++ on shelf Arms on soft furniture shiny and grubby Dining chairs between vertical slats dirty. In all rooms the shutters are not easy to open and have dropped and scuffed the floor and window sills. It needs a carpenter to rehang them. In fact there were some that we could never open. Doors and paintwork could do with a good wash or paint. In the bathroom the area behind the toilet pan was grubby No rubber cushions on the toilet lid and seat making them unstable. Bedside lamps with open glass shades had dirt and dead flies inside. The balcony furniture needs a complete set of cushions that fit. 2nd bedroom is very small and only suitable for children. The shower needs a complete upgrade with thermostatic valves. The light in the mirror is not working. A good point is that there was plenty of hot water. The bed and bed linen are very comfortable. The weather was good and we managed to make ourselves comfortable but the rent for the flat is totally overpriced as it does not deliver the level of modern conveniences and cleanliness one expects in a flat at this rental. I therefore request a refund of £400 and suggest the owners visit to see how much maintenance work is required as good cleaning can only be done if furniture and paintwork is maintained. We have stayed at several of the Burgh Island Causeway apartments - this was the first time at no.
23. Generally speaking, we had a lovely time in our favourite part of the world. Helpful Holidays as usual lived up to their name. The following are hopefully constructive comments about the apartment. * Broadband. This is woefully inadequate... we know from other apartments stays that a perfectly usable broadband service is available. It costs no more than the older services as in place at no.23. * Washer-drier. When in drying mode the unit makes a clunk every 14s that resonates around the apartment, making it unusable whilst we were there. * The fridges both have doors that do not shut properly without a firm shove - including the freezer compartment door. This meant a number of items of food had to be discarded. * There are at least two flickering bulbs around the flat - these need replacing. * There was no hand soap in the property. * The second bathroom has no towel rail - the towels at the end of the week were fairly unusable as a result. * Cleanliness - we found bits of sweetcorn on the floor of the 2nd bedroom. This doesn't bode well for how well the place had been cleaned before our arrival - a worry given the current emphasis on keeping things clean. A final note was that the cleaner turned up at around 9:15 on our day of departure and lingered in the hallway. She was also disparaging to my wife. We have always left the apartments we have stayed in as clean and orderly as we found them. We didn't need this rudeness on our final day. We had to ask her to stand outside until we left at 9:50.

Things people look for in their holiday accommodation include comfortable beds, plenty of hot water for showers and baths, and fast and reliable wifi.
This apartment didnât offer any of these. As most other reviews have mentioned the apartment does offer an amazing front row seat to views of the sea and Burgh Island and is just steps away from the beach. The kitchen is well appointed with modern appliances and all the âstuffâ thatâs needed to self cater. But, for us, good views didnât compensate for the fact that the beds were uncomfortably soft, we were not able to take a hot shower, and the internet was abysmal. The mattress and bedding made sleeping unpleasant. The mattresses and pillows felt very used and the fitted sheets were âpiledâ and quite uncomfortable to sleep on. No matter what we tried with using the hot water âboostâ button, the shower went cold just after a few seconds, as such we had to resort to taking showers in the pool changing room. The internet speed varied from an extremely slow 500 kbps to a very slow 1.3 mbps. As there is little to no cell service for Three or O2 in that area, the slow internet impacted communication with family via WhatsApp or wifi calling. It also made watching shows on Netflix or freeview frustrating by periodically having to wait for the TV catch-up downloading a programme . (I would recommend downloading any shows you want to watch on your laptop before you arrive.) I have read other reviews dating back to early last year that mention the issues with the beds and Internet and, for the money it costs to stay there, I would expect something to have been done about them.

Arrived 23rd June 2023 and left 6th July 2023.
Since our first visit to this apartment it has had a makeover and it has a wonderful homely feel with all mod cons and we really did not want to leave after a fortnight there. It was great to sit on the balcony during first week as part of the heatwave, the second week not so hot but still relaxing sitting on the balcony. Where else could you relax like you can here and also went home with a lovely tan that you would find hard to beat even abroad. It was so quiet you hardly knew anyone else was there and this suited us down to the ground. Did very little during the fortnight and did not feel the need to do so in such a lovely appointment, but this was what appealed to us when booking - a completely stress free environment. Our Yorkshire Terrier loved the beach and so did we without having to walk too far and he too appeared to sulk when we had to leave to go home. Felt very safe in the gated complex even after midnight when taking our Yorkie for his last walk before bed around the car parking area. We look forward to returning hopefully next year. The bottle of wine and cake were a lovely touch and not expected. All in all very difficult to fault. Colin.
