  We were very disappointed when we arrived as it looked like someone had been in and not had a thought for us as guests.

  The place was not left as it should have been. When we arrived we noticed the following: 1. The toilet upstairs had dried on faeces in the pan. 2. The super king size bed had not been made up and this room also had no towels. We managed to find some bedding and had to make it up ourselves 3 there was a used tea bag in the sink 4 no welcome pack or milk as stated we would get on the booking info. 5 light bulbs left on top of unit. 6 the dishwasher had not been emptied before we arrived. I got in touch with Marisol Kane of lily white property management and she was very apologetic and sent someone round to clean and sort out the issues. Who then came in the next day (we think) to clean the floors. We then had a really great time in the house, using the game room, garden and house for all we needed and continued on with no complaints, until we left. My friend was staying in the single room at the end of the landing. She woke to the sound of dripping and on wondering where it was coming from discovered that rain water was leaking through the ceiling by the door and radiator, she had to get a pan to collect water but unfortunately it had dripped all over her suitcase and towels, leaving her with very little clean clothing that wasn’t wet!!! On going downstairs we turned on the dining room lights , these were flickering so we’re swiftly turned off. Again I got in touch with Marisol whose response was”oh dear, thanks for letting me know I’ll pass that on to the owner” no apology! I find this totally unacceptable and disappointing as she was so good at sorting us out when we arrived. I do want to add that we had a great time, and would stay again but as paying guests our expectation was that the property would have been left in the same condition as you would expect us to leave it, clean and tidy, but this was not the case, we believe as the owner it is ultimately your responsibility to adhere to a high standard.   The lodge was beautiful, spacious and bright.

  The layout worked well for our family and our daughter especially loved the bunks. Set in a peaceful setting, we enjoyed the quiet that it offered. However, the rattan furniture is not as per the picture, it’s a basic set which only seats 4 despite the lodge being able to sleep 7. A identical table and chairs were being used in the lodge opposite, I’m not sure if this was a coincidence. The bbq, despite being a Weber, was unusable due to the fact there was no handle on top of the bbq lid and inside was absolutely filthy and rusted in places due to the holes that the handle left. The oven wasn’t very good and we struggled to even cook oven chips properly. It only seemed to cook well on the right hand side of the cooker. The skirting boards were falling off in places, particularly next to the fridge where they were just resting against the wall. The main issue we had though was the blinds in the main bedroom. As per a previous review, they were completely broken which meant you couldn’t open the blinds nor close them properly. Unfortunately, the blinds flooded the room with light from 4am which woke our 1 year old. We had lovely weather during our stay but had to buy a fan as we couldn’t access the window in the bedroom and the room was really hot. The mattress in the bedroom was spring based and we found this really uncomfortable. The remaining blinds across the lodge were also a little broken too. Unfortunately we found there to be a lack of cutlery too. Some basics like salt and pepper would have been a good addition along with some hand soap. This along with the lack of children’s cutlery, for the price that we paid made us feel underwhelmed. Especially when we’ve been to other properties, paid less and got more for our money.

  We stayed here in 2019 and would have returned, but 2020 was cancelled, so we booked for 2021.

  The property was the same except that the warm wood exterior is now smart grey-and-slate. It’s clean and spacious, and has everything that a large group (sleeps 6) would need, including a dishwasher and a washing-machine, and except perhaps a small fruit or veg knife. There’s a fridge with freeze-box in the kitchen area, which has electric cooker and microwave, plus a large fridge-freezer in the walk-in larder, and the table seats 6. There’s a large en-suite bathroom in the Master, which has a balcony overlooking the big garden, plus a very large family bathroom with bath and shower, toilet and sink, and another small separate toilet. The garden is huge, bounded by fencing on 3 sides and the River Exe on the 4th, so perhaps not the best place for young children and/or small dogs. Our two Irish Setters, however, absolutely loved it, and this year I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a kingfisher, an amazing experience. There’s wifi, DV’s, games and books, but phone reception is only possible standing in the garden. It’s also not far to Dulverton, a delightful little town with several cafes and restaurants, a Co-op for groceries, and other useful shops. Tarr Steps is worth a visit, also Withypool, where there’s a small PO/shop and a cafe selling amazing cream teas, cakes, and main meals. Thoroughly recommend the Lodge and the whole area for sightseeing.

  The property is beautifully furnished, clean and comfortable, with all kitchen and patio amenities for a really relaxing and enjoyable stay.

  A couple of small things detracted, which would ideally be addressed. The gate code to the holiday park is not provided with the entry and key collection details, which after a long journey is potentially a big problem, particularly if you were to arrive late in the evening. Luckily a resident spotted us and allowed us in. The blinds in the main ensuite bedroom don't close, so we had very light sleep despite otherwise very comfortable rooms. The tvs in the bedrooms don't work, which wasn't an issue for us as such but neither did the tv in the living room reliably- it seemed to work for short periods only before transmission broke up so there was no point in trying. I reported both the blinds and the tv issue to the owner but received no response. I didn't notice that WiFi is not available when I booked, but it's so uncommon now that I think the lack of WiFi should be made clear. All in all a beautiful property and an enjoyable stay but you had a sense of being left to your own devices once payment had been made.

  I had to stay in my van every night as the bedroom was full of cobwebs behind the bed and I can't cope with spiders.

  I tried to vacuum them but it sent too much dust about the room. There were old cobwebs everywhere. My husband slept in the van for the last 3 nights due to his asthma in the dusty room. The owner came to swap the main tv which wasn't working, which we appreciated. The towels all smelt musty so we tried washing them but there was no drier so we struggled to dry them. The owner did show us where to find more towels some of which were OK. There were only 5 wine glasses which were all different and the place is for 6 so that was odd, also a lot of the crockery was badly chipped and cracked. The place itself was in a lovely setting but we couldn't fully relax due to the lack of cleanliness. There were cobwebs attaching from the back of all the sofas to various things. The toilets etc seemed clean. As we were taking our parents away for a holiday I was very disappointed with these issues. Such a shame as although it's a lovely property in a great setting, I couldn't recommend it.
