What our customers say about their holidays

A beautiful accommodation in a beautiful setting!
Book this - you will not be disappointed. The house was spacious, bright, modern and very clean. The host was superb and had thought of everything we needed- including all kitchen utensils. She was very easy to contact and made sure we had everything we needed. Each room was very clean and tastefully decorated with very comfy beds, linen and towels. There was an en-suite to the master with a large walk in shower with excellent water pressure. The main bathroom had a bath tub and shower as well. The house was very warm and cosy and a fan was also provided. There was lots of natural light throughout the property helped in by three large bi fold doors which spanned the open plan living/dining area. This made the whole property feel sunny and spacious as well as providing stunning views of the fields which wrapped around the property. There was also a outdoor furniture including dining table with parasol and a bbq. It was lovely to have our breakfast outside over looking the fields. The setting was very clam and relaxing. Everything has been very well maintained and the property felt new. A great place to enjoy the many attractions in the area....We visited Stonehenge, Weymouth beach and Charmouth to go fossill hunting which were all within an hour's drive. The accommodation provided a great base from which to explore these places. There is a supply shop a few minutes drive from the house with fresh bread as well as a Londis Petrol shed/Macdonalds/Costa within 10 mins drive. We are a family of six including 2 children and grandparents and this was certainly a great place to enjoy with the family. Thank you for a lovely stay - we will be back !

Upon arrival at the cottage on a cold March afternoon we expected the cottage to be warm and welcoming, instead it was absolutely freezing!
The heating had been turned off and the thermostat was only set to 13 degrees! It made our arrival very disappointing after having travelled over 4 hrs to reach it! We immediately turned the heating on and reset the thermostat to 22 degrees. It however took the cottage well over 24 hours to reach a reasonable temperature and we had to eat our first meal in front of the open log burner on our laps with our coats on! So fair to say not a good start to our holiday and what made it worse is that it was a surprise holiday for my husbands birthday. We contacted the owners who apologised that the heating should of been left on for us as the cottage had not been occupied for a few weeks beforehand. It didn't help that the sitting room had no door into the dining room (which remained too cold throughout our holiday to use) so when we ate any meals at the cottage it had to be on our laps in the sitting room! We managed to make a makeshift curtain door using a broom balanced on a chair with a bungy attached to the stairs and the sitting room did manage to maintain its warmth a bit better after that. However, on a more positive note the kitchen equipment and goods were of an extremely high standard probably the best I have ever come across which helped to make up for the cold cottage. So yes I would recommend this property but not perhaps during the winter months!

Castle View Cottage was a lovely apartment in which to spend our family holiday; it was very homely and well appointed, and the landlord Susan could not have been more welcoming and helpful.
Dunster is a lovely location, the castle and grounds are stunning as is the village itself. There is not a huge range of restaurants, the Luttrell Arms Hotel is lovely but quite expensive, the food at the Stags Head was hit and miss, and expensive for what it was. The big issue for us was the church bells, these seem to go on throughout the night, and being so close became a real problem, as my wife and I and our daughter were regularly woken in the middle of the night, or on some occasions kept awake for what felt like hours. The bells seem to play at 15 minute intervals, midnight seems to require a long discordant tune, then every 15 minutes is struck until at 01:00 there is another protracted chiming, on our last night we couldnât decide if it was Oranges and Lemons, or something similar. At 05:00 every morning we were as a family woken by the bells playing out for several minutes, needless to say this wasnât welcomed. We live in a village with a church so are used to church bells, but the church at Dunster is on another level entirely. Several shop keepers asked us how we felt about them, so they are clearly a talking point.

A lovely cottage and an enjoyable week end but on arriving it was dark and poring with rain.
Finding where to park was quite a problem, as although it said parking for the cottages I was immediately accosted by a gentleman to say this is not where you park and proceeded to tell me where to go, by this time we were both very wet. In daylight it was still not at all obvious where one should park if staying at the Old Stables, there was a minute sign 'parking' but even that was difficult to see unless you were actually parked by it !!! Larger signs saying "Parking for Old Stables Cottages" might be an idea. The 'starter pack' of logs was very mean ! and although we could purchase in the village it would have been a better idea to have more packs of logs that we could purchase at the cottage. The last small moan ! is about the dish washer tablets, we were staying at the cottage for two nights and there were TWO tablets, which in theory is all well and good, but it does limit one for the use of the machine. I am sure that if one is paying £600 for a two night stay, one would not be the sort of person to filch a pack of washing tablets !! Other than those few things a pleasant and comfortable stay.

We really loved our stay at Castle View holiday cottage.
I visited along with my partner and two young girls, the cottage was so well equipped with everything we needed for our youngest including highchair, cot and stairgate and it made our stay so easy and comfortable. Susan was also really helpful and let us know she was available anytime we needed, she even went out of her way to post two toys our girls had left at the cottage back to our home. It's a truly stunning area of England with so much in walking distance or a short drive, the castle in Dunster was such a good day out and the village itself was delightful even with its own playground, great for breaking up the day with littlies. We would 100% recommend staying here to anyone and will hopefully be back in future :) P.S a note on the bells - we personally enjoyed them, they are a very unusual and quirky part of the stay, we a game of guessing what king of song it would play on each day and enjoyed listening to the different tunes. I honestly didn't notice them whilst sleeping beyond the first night but if you are particularly sensitive or uptight just maybe bring some earplugs...
