What our customers say about their holidays

  • Helen Lewis - Verified booking

A beautifully presented cottage, spotlessly clean and some lovely ornamental touches on the windowsills.

The large windows that opened like doors were fantastic, especially as it was so warm and sunny while we stayed. We could sit on the windowsills and feel like we were outside. The bedroom door of the double room didn't close properly, especially when lots of windows were open...a little tricky when staying there with teenage nephew! The dishwasher was ridiculously small, especially given the size of the kitchen and the number of spare cupboards. A larger one would have meant only needing to turn it on once a day, so saving water and detergent. The tap arms for the bathroom sinks were rather short, making it tricky to fit things like razors and toothbrushes underneath. The fridge and freezer doors could do with being rehung to open the other way. The coffee table was gorgeous, even though it blocked access to the sofas if brought close enough to use. Showers were lovely. Really useful to have large rolls of cling film and foil and lots of spare loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, etc. Having a separate washer and dryer was really useful...many self catering cottages have an all in one. Overall a lovely cottage in a fabulous location, if it wasn't for the tiny dishwasher and very short armed taps, we'd definitely stay again and recommend it to others.

An excellent base to explore N and S Uist, Eriskay & Barra.

There is no where better to see birds. From the kitchen/living room you are guaranteed to see Sea Eagles, Hen Harriers Short Eared Owls and golden eagles. A mile or so down the road there’s some of the best Machair in Scotland and the magnificent walk up Beinn Mhor is a short drive away, as is the excellent museum. The big windows enable you to look across the Machair to the sea, a great place to watch the changing light and weather and spectacular sunrises/sunsets. The place is very tastefully designed - lovely paintings, crockery, blinds etc. and one of the best equipped cottages we’ve ever been to with high spec equipment. There are several beautiful photographic books which helpfully inform you about the history and culture of S Uist. We also loved the three handsome chickens wandering around. The next door hosts are also delightful. We can’t recommend this place enough.

Great place to stay and explore the island.

Good sized property with good amenities. Secure gated garden ideal for letting the dog roam and plenty of off road parking. Excellent views of the local hillsides and moorland and only a short walk to the shore at Newton Ferry. Plenty of wildlife to see in the air, in the water and on land. Good communications with the owners, Donald & Caroline. Very quiet and peaceful, combined with a comfortable bed made for repeated great nights sleeping, essential when recovering from long walks. Kitchen was fully equipped and a good size so food prep was easy. Log burner got the lounge toasty within 20 mins or so. Washer & Drier along with washing line perfect for getting gear cleaned ready for another adventure. Shower room was good size and water pressure great for a rejuvenating freshen up. Could easily recommend and would return. Thank You.

We have enjoyed staying at Peninsula Cottage very much.

The house is very well appointed and we appreciated all commodities and the modern and clean design. The garden is also well tended. The hot tub felt like a reward after a day out exploring Lewis in not so favourable weather. The settings and views are very peaceful but close enough to town to go out dining or shopping on instant decision. We would highly recommend the cottage to anyone planning to stay in Lewis and would rent it again, should we come back to the Outer Hebrides. Our experience with LHH has also been a very good one; we'll sure look for other LHH managed properties when planning for a trip. Please, forward our comments to the owners. We would like to thank them and LHH for helping make our holiday a very positive and memorable experience.

The cottage is well laid-out and had all the equipment we required, and the owner was friendly and helpful.

However, there was no information booklet containing information such as waste disposal, recycling, restaurants, shopping and supermarkets, doctors and health needs, etc. Perhaps you could consider making this a requirement for all LHH properties. The situation of the cottage was not as attractive as other LHH properties we have use, being closely next door to the owner’s home, and with a chicken run very close by. Unfortunately, we had to leave a day early due to Calmac cancellations. We had told the owner a few days earlier but were unable to find her on our morning of departure to thank her. Please pass on our thanks.
