What our customers say about their holidays

Where to start⦠We were due to check in from 3pm on 31/05 for 3 nights.
At 2.30pm whilst we were on our way (3 hour drive) we were told we couldnât enter the property until 6pm because it had not been cleaned. Quite frankly giving 30 minutes notice is a complete joke. We had our 5 month old daughter with us who needed to go to sleep ant 6pm and we also had to try and fill time because of this. Which meant more money spent. We eventually got into the property at around 7pm. Our first morning at the property was dreadful. No hot water running from the shower. We had luke warm water for 30 seconds then ice cold. I ran the shower for 40 minutes on full hot and it was ice cold. We informed the cleaner who said she would come round and check when we were out. So we were unable to shower and had to head out. The cleaner then informed me that she had been round and everything was fine⦠Obviously it was not fine and when we returned I went to turn the shower on again and low and behold the same problem. I informed the cleaner at 3.30pm. I heard nothing until 6.30pm, by which this time we had had enough and I called Sykes to complain and ask for a full refund as we would be leaving as soon as we could the following morning. Within minutes the cleaner is calling me! What a coincidence! I spoke again with the cleaner who said she would have to come round to check again or she would have to inform the owner I had refused to let her come inâ¦I could see what was happening here already. Our daughter was asleep and we were reluctant to let the cleaner back in because of this. However she said she would bring a âplumberâ. Somehow within 15 minutes the cleaner was at our door with the âplumberâ (definitely was not a plumber). Checked the shower and boiler and guess whatâ¦it wasnât working! We were advised not to use the shower and that they would be calling British Gas to have the boiler checked as it was dangerous. Still no contact from the owners! I informed Sykes again that we wanted a full refund as this was not acceptable and we were unable to shower or bath our 5 month old daughter. The following morning, still no word from anyone so I again had to call Sykes who said they would contact the owner again about the refund. The owner offered 50%â¦50% refund after the absolute shambles that we had been through⦠I think itâs clear we will not be staying here again. We love Malmesbury and visit almost every year. Luckily we have stayed in other cottages in the village, with more competent and personable owners so have no need to come back here. Thankfully

Wiltshire is a stunning County, which is why we chose this 'away from it all' break.
We anticipated beautiful timeless, greystone villages and elegant historic towns. What we were not ready for was 'Woodman's Cottage'. It's beautiful, spacious features, extremely comfortable furnishing (both living and bedroom areas) are aimed at one thing to provide for the visitor everything they require for total comfort. With a rich agenda of sights to see, places to visit, it was SO comforting to know that the cottage was there to welcome our weary return and provide such comfort each evening. The superb showers were a big hit! Martin Lewis, the owner, made us immediately feel at home; making himself available for information, guidance and any assistance we might have required. All this on top of providing for the weary new inhabitants, a dozen organic eggs, milk, tea and coffee. Nothing was too much trouble for him! Visitors could not ask for a better host! We will certainly be returning to Woodman's Cottage; if there is a vacancy! This is our first experience of Sykes Cottages and on the strength of this, we could not recommend the company highly enough! Thank you so much for a very special experience.

It was our first time renting on part of a larger complex and we were not disappointed at how peaceful and quiet it was.
The cottage itself is fairly spacious with good amenity space especially in the kitchen area. Whilst the cottage was nice it does feel in need of a little tlc. One of the shower had an issue which is easily fixed once the controls were reset but this happened a few times during our stay, the kitchen tap leaks and during the really heavy rain, there was a leak from the centre of the alcove in front of the log burner. It also feels in need of a bit of a deep clean particularly in the shower areas and parts where the cobwebs hide, however appreciate that these are difficult during busy periods. The cottage came with puzzles, dvds, books which are such great ideas for those wet days and the leaflets of local sights were really helpful. We were a little unsure of the recycling/bin/check out instructions as we couldnât find anything to suggest what we needed to do but just based it on stays at other places. Overall we did really enjoy our stay at this cottage.

Well we arrived at the Cottage after a long drive and was blown away, yes we had seen pictures on the website but this was real life .
We settled in nicely after talking to our host Martin who throughout our stay was super amazing and super fantastic. We were looking for a retreat , somewhere to get from our daily routine and we found it here . Peaceful and totally relaxing farm , daily refreshing walks round the farm and into the woods even for the time of the year was great. Visits to surrounding villages was just as well pleasant and highly recommended. You must visit Combe Castle Village, a breathe taking experience , Malmesbury is another village , if you like walking, the circular walk round the village and along canal is great . Find your guide and information on Wiltshire websites things to do. All in all a great week in December, we will definitely be back in summer and looking forward to having a BBQ in the gardens. PS . Thanks for the fresh eggs Martin.

Winterbourne Cottage Wiltshire This is a very pretty cosy cottage (once it had warmed up!
Was cold to begin). Quite spacious with large lounge, kitchen, bathroom and pretty garden. Given how nice the cottage is we felt it could have been rather better-appointed, and it does need a real deep clean although we appreciate it has been very booked-up. The village is charming with lots of lovely walks, although pitch-black at night as no lighting. Lots of lovely pubs in surrounding areas. Enjoyed going to Shaftesbury (Hovis advert), Longleat (with lions and tigers!), Salisbury, Stour Head with beautiful gardens and lake, Wardour Castle. Everyone very friendly: good Sunday lunch in welcoming Black Dog 10 minute walk, super-welcoming staff, particularly James the manager who opened up early especially for us! Great meal in Beckford Arms Fonthill Gifford. Warm welcome and massive portions at The Wyndham Ditton.
