What our customers say about their holidays
Alison - Verified booking
A lovely property, everything clean and well-maintained (as you'd expect as it was only built in 2023) in a quiet location.
Three bathrooms was a particular treat. Nice welcome basket (and even asked in advance what sort of milk and bread we'd like) and well-equipped kitchen. Washing machine, rotary airer and pegs much appreciated - though a washing basket to take the clothes outside would be a welcome addition. Our only gripes would be curtains and duvets: Thicker/more curtains and/or blinds are needed, as we were woken up early by the light coming in and the property got very hot (even though only low 20s outside) due to sun getting in even when we closed curtains during the day and particularly through the front door/full-length window where there were no curtains at all. Usual trick of closing curtains on sunny side and opening windows on the other doesn't work when you're on holiday and therefore out for much of the day (and you are asked to close windows when not in, a sensible precaution anyway particularly as all on ground floor). This would be exacerbated by duvets being pretty heavy (10 tog I'd guess?) though this is a common issue in holiday cottages so we've learnt to bring our own lighter duvets or simply sleep under the duvet covers only. Plentiful places to eat and visit locally - we had good meals at Well at Bulkington, Bell in Great Cheverall and Nerano in Devizes, and enjoyed trips to Caen Hill Locks, Westbury White Horse, Lacock Abbey and Avebury. So on balance I'd thoroughly recommend for autumn through to spring but not necessarily in summer, though we still had a lovely break.

Excellent cottage.
The best one we have stayed in. Lots of extras, in fact Debbie & Tim had worked relentlessly to ensure everything was on hand. Lovely hamper to welcome us, fresh eggs from their own chickens, bread, butter, jam, biscuits, prosecco, squash, milk, chocolates etc. Tea, coffee, sugar, dried herbs, olive oil already in the well stocked kitchen. Everything was on hand, we didn't want for anything. The local pub was 5 mins walk away & we had excellent meals there, & they were very dog friendly too. The cottage itself was very warm with new electric CH & a great wood burner. Tv was a Sky Glass in the lounge & a normal Tv in the kitchen. Both bedrooms were of equal size & the beds were very comfortable. The weather was not good. Storm Bert hit us but we were fine, despite some flooded roads. We still managed to visit local towns & villages. Corston has a Recreation Ground a short walk away & we walked our dog there each day. The cottage came with substantial grounds ( a firepit & children's play equipment) & a large mown field. Ideal for dog walking around late at night because it was illuminated with a mix of solar & sensor lights. The owners had their own chickens & ducks, & fed the birds each day, so there was plenty of wildlife to watch. Hedgehogs were rampant at night time. Apparently one night 8 individuals were sighted! I highly recommend Orchard cottage.

Thank you so much to Debbie and Tim for accommodating us in their beautiful cottage.
The cottage was so clean throughout, had all the essentials that we needed and more, even down to the smallest of details that you would never think about! All rooms were very spacious and comfortable, it really did feel like we were at home. We spent the majority of our time with the ducks and chickens as our daughter loved them, having cuddles with them every day, collecting eggs every morning and having them for our breakfast/dinner. The garden area is huge! Again has everything you need from loungers, to garden games, to a bbq and a fire pit. We would be there for hours just enjoying some family time. The pictures really do not do this property any justice, it is so much better in person, better than we ever expected! Now on to the hosts, they are the friendliest people we have ever met. So easy to talk to, nothing was too much to ask for, loved being in their company and listening to their stories about the animals and learning all their names (Bitsy and Ash the chickens were a fond favourite). We were so sad to leave, but will 100% be coming back next year. Thank you so so much for making our little family holiday so amazing, we look forward to seeing you all again soon â¤ï¸

The Folly is beautiful and extremely well equipped.
We loved the garden and were lucky enough to have glorious weather so we were able to sit by the pond almost every day to relax and watch the bees. We walked across the fields several times to visit Mere - a lovely little village with a beautiful church. We definitely recommend The Butt of Sherry for a fantastic Sunday lunch - the staff were so welcoming and friendly and the food was excellent. We also visited The Walnut Tree - a little further on but accessible via a public footpath opposite The George Inn. Another lovely lunch. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. We visited Stourhead - twice as it was so beautiful. It is literally a 7 minute drive but you can spend a whole day enjoying the beautiful gardens, and having lunch at The Spread Eagle. We visited Monacute House, which is another lovely National Trust site with lovely walks, and a few nice pubs for lunch. Colin and Claire are wonderful hosts, very friendly and helpful with lots of local knowledge - the homemade jam and marmalade were delicious! This week has been an oasis of calm during a very difficult year - we have had a wonderful time and are going home with recharged batteries and fond memories.

Fantastic location and accommodation and I would recommend it to anyone, and you do get your exercise steps in going from car to Folly and up and down the stairs its not for the unfit.
As I have already said lovey in every aspect we sat out on patio every morning having breakfast watching the squirrels and birds in the trees, and at night sitting next to pond having a beer after a hard day sight seeing watching the stars brilliant. The owners left lovely welcome pack tea-coffee bread bacon and lovely home made jams all very nice. We loved are stay at the Folly the only problem we had was we stayed in July 2021 when temperatures where +29 degrees most days and the bed room gets very hot it has no windows and as a mezzanine floor in the apex of the roof heat rises so very warm at night we had two fans running every night "sorry if Colin's electric bill is higher than normal" There is one other thing that would have been nice in that the folly is ideal for romantic holiday it is lovely but in the lounge there are only two single seats we felt a nice sofa you can cuddle in on and watch a little TV at night would have been nice. I have no negatives about the folly we loved our holiday if you want a quiet stay in fantastic location with great accommodation you should try the Folly. regards Mike
