What our customers say about their holidays
Amanda - Verified booking
Nice big property with amenities.
Everything we needed, including lovely linen and towels. I was very glad to see these are now provided. Good location and nice to have a garden. Parking difficult on driveway due to raised kerb and driveway ledge - when we tried to park on this to keep the cul-de-sac clear, the car grounded on the driveway and so had to park on the road. Neighbours were very understanding and accepting thankfully. There is confusion with regard to information for this property - Sykes Cottages give different details to the John Bray holiday let company, who also appear to look after the property e.g. whether there is linen/ towels available and the time of departure on the final day i.e. Sykes state 9.30am and information in the Cottage from Bray states 9.00am. Information needs to be made consistent to avoid worry and confusion; I was worried the time prior to our holiday and journey down as to whether we would arrive and there would be no linen provided due to the confused information. We would also comment that we had felt the Sykes 9.30 departure was early and so even more suprised to see the Bray information stating a 9.00am departure. This is a very early departure for the final day; we rent holiday accommodation frequently and the departure time is usually a far more reasonable 10.00am. The information states this is to meet Covid regulations, but we do feel this is no longer a valid reasoning. Pre-covid procedures for cleaning should have been at a standard where a 10.00 am departure and 4.00pm arrival is adequate time for property preparation.

We were extremely disappointed when we arrived at the property, it was filthy.
There were old cobwebs all around the doorframe and key safe, upon entering the property we were greeted with a musty smell and we were disgusted to find trodden in crisps still in the carpet of the twin bedroom, dust in the kitchen and chewing gum stuck on the bunk beds. After spending an hour cleaning it, we were able to unpack and settle in. This is when we discovered the broken shower. The property is advertised as having a shower over the bath, however this is a shower head attached to the tap, with a broken holder. You are not able to stand to take a shower or use it due to it being broken. The property is in some dire neeed of modernization and general upkeep. The kitchen does however have a good stock of equipment and the washing machine is very handy. After reporting these issues to Sykes, I was called by an agent who offered to send a cleaner which would have been useless as I had already cleaned up the mess. I was also asked if I would have been happy for the shower to be fixed to which we agreed, however this did not materialize due to waiting for a part. This problem could have easily been fixed by a trip to Screwfix!! The location of this property is it's saving grace. It is a short walk down into Port Isaac and is a good base for exploring the surrounding area.

We have just come back from a lovely week’s stay at Fairbank Cottage during October half term. We were very lucky with the late summer weather and were lucky enough to see them filming ‘Beyond Paradise’ TV show by the beach front during our stay. Tid (the owner) was very friendly and on hand if we needed anything. Fairbank Cottage is ideally situated in West Looe, at the bottom of the hill, close to all amenities - with a lovely deli opposite, great pubs and restaurants nearby, and with its very own car parking space right outside the cottage which is like gold dust in Looe and was a real bonus for us. From the cottage it is just a short walk across the bridge (or take the ferry boat) to East Looe town. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable with nice clean bedding and very comfy mattresses and pillows, with plenty of towels and a nice shower/bathroom, everything you need to enjoy your stay, including good WiFi which kept up with our phones, iPads and son’s Xbox, together with a Smart TV. Fairbank Cottage is ideally situated and is a good central base for visiting neighbouring holiday resorts. I can highly recommend Fairbank Cottage and we would definitely make a return visit.

We had a wonderful stay at Caelum.
The bungalow was spacious, clean and comfortable. It was well maintained and looked to have been recently redecorated. The location is perfect as it's in a quiet cul de sac but only a short walk to the village centre with its harbour, shops, cafes and restaurants and of course all the locations from Doc Martin! Port Gaverne is also in walking distance and it's just a short drive to Tintagel, Padstow, Rock and many other places. There is a well stocked co-op just round the corner and we found the kitchen well equipped with many pots and pans and utensils so we could easily self-cater. We really enjoyed the garden complete with picnic bench and sea views, perfect for my morning coffee! The Wifi was excellent, useful as phone signal is sketchy in Cornwall, and with 3 TVs in the property we were able to enjoy streaming a movie or 2 in the evening. We would certainly revisit and would recommend this property to others.
