What our customers say about their holidays
Matthew - Verified booking
We were greeted by the owner Diane, pretty hard to find the cottage when itâs pitch black and the instructions werenât clear.
The parking isnât very convenient as we were supposed to park a long way from the cottage in a wooded area, however the lovely neighbour let us park in her drive!!! I have to say, the neighbours are absolutely delightful, so helpful and kind with assisting us with a lost parcel and showing us where to go when we arrived. They must get tired of people coming and going but didnât show it at all. They were just lovely. The WIFI is terrible. We struggled all week to get a signal and mainly used all of our 4G up. It could do with Broadband and not 4G connection given how much people rely on their laptops and phones. Both beds were pretty hard and uncomfortable and the second bedroom could use two single beds instead of one double. Our twins are 14 and they werenât keen on sharing a double bed together! Canât imagine adults or other children would like that either. The kitchen is fairly well equipped but you wouldnât want to cook a roast dinner as there is a lack of utilities. The property has a lot of character and is an interesting design. It does look as though pieces from varying houses have been placed in the house as nothing matches - modern, boho, Victorian pictures, mandala canvas, old chairs, up cycled chairs - it didnât flow well & honestly looked like leftovers from other properties. The sofa in the lounge area was extremely uncomfortable. However the electric fire was cosy. The Prosecco was a nice touch as well as the dressing gowns and slippers. Would I recommend the property? Probably not - but we wouldnât go back to the area again anyway. The neighbours were the highlight though as they were just so accommodating and friendly.

The owners contacted us before our arrival date and gave some very useful information. On arrival Kim came to see us and gave us an overview of the village and the area. He was most helpful and very welcoming. A comprehensive welcome pack was left for us, for which we were very grateful. The cottage is equipped with everything you could need and more, and is very warm and comfortable - the beds were fabulous! We were unable to get the TV to work so Kim and Hilary's daughter-in-law came to sort it out for us - in a matter of minutes! The views from the upstairs windows over the ancient village roof-tops and the fields beyond was to die for, as was the village itself, which comes straight out of a Miss Marple murder mystery, and so close to Canterbury too. We didn't use our car once during our stay, opting to take the train from Chilham station (a 15-20 minute walk from the Barn) into Ashford (for the retail outlet) and Canterbury in the other direction. Both took about 10 minutes. Remember to take your torch (I believe one is supplied) if you are walking from the station after dark as the road back to the village is unlit with no pavement in parts. We ate bar nibbles at The White Horse at the top end of The Street on the evening we arrived, and had a fun evening there on Friday for the Jazz evening. We ate at The Woolpack, at the bottom end of The Street, on Saturday evening which was beautiful and had a great ambience. I truly did not want to leave, but as we go to Canterbury a couple of times a years, we will definitely be back. Thank you to Kim and Hilary we loved it!

Nice property, just a 2 mile walk from Deal seafront.
Makes a nice walk with the dogs. Plenty of room to walk the dogs in the woods for their morning and evening ablutions. Nice large property with 2 lovely bedrooms. Loads of room for 2 couples upstairs but living room area may be a little cozy with 4 people in there. Kitchen was well equipped, but one thing my wife commented on was the lack of a measuring jug, or ovenproof dishes in which to prepare casserole type meals. The only 2 negatives for us was, it was very bad weather with storm Arlene blowing a gale and we could not get the rooms to heat up further than what they were set for. Tried to just turn the dial up a few degrees on the boiler, but to no avail.. Nothing in the notes and we didn't want to start messing with any of the boiler settings. Also didn't want to annoy the owners every 5 minutes. The sofa in the living room was not great at all. I think it must be amongst the top 3 list of uncomfortable things I've ever sat on. I would defy anyone to sit still for more than 10 minutes without having to rearrange their buttocks. We only had a 3 night break, so none of these things spoiled our stay, but I think a week would have been a different matter.

the cottage needs a thorough renovation, de kitchen is rundown, some doors of closets won't close, some of the cutlerie wasn't clean, there is no dishwasher, the washingmachine makes a lot of noise, in de bathroom some tiles are broken, the joints between the tiles are cracked and dirty, there are a lot of stains in the carpets througout the house, the chairs in de diningroom are full of staines, the couches are rundown and sagging, the traffic on the road is very loud, 24/7, stripes on the wall beside the stairs, the garden is overgrown, the gardenchairs and table have seen better days, de shed is a dump, dampspots on the wall of the bathroom. 2 stars, max, not 4 stars. Most importantly however is that the cottage was nog clean at all. It hadn't been vacumed for months, dustbunnies everywhere, windows were not clean. Very disappointing. Only positive is the 2 minute walk to the centre of Canterbury.

This house is set in the beautiful, peaceful and picturesque Kent village of Chilham. There's a pub and a wine bar, plus a village shop. It has lots of beautiful walks right from the door. The house is well equipped, spotless and the owners were extremely friendly and very helpful, offering advice on where to walk, and places to visit. They provided a lovely welcome pack too and checked that we had everything we needed, they couldn't have been more helpful. There's a charming garden that has good seating and a bbq, overlooking a pretty lawn and flower beds. Truly idyllic setting. The house was extremely clean and well equipped. The bedroom has sliding doors out to the garden which was a lovely feature. We would definitely return.
