What our customers say about their holidays

  • Allison - Verified booking

We have just returned from a lovely week holiday at roundhouse.

Upon arrival the views are breathe taking. The house is nestled half way up a Shropshire hill looking across at the valley. Truly stunning. On arrival; The check in was seamless, house was clean and well equipped for our holiday, the welcome tea and coffee was appreciated. Host; the host was easily accessible and responded swiftly to any queries. Value for money; for the price we paid (circa 1600) we were satisfied with our holiday, we went to book for 2022 and noticed the price has increased significantly. We held off booking. With this price increase there are a few things the host needs to Improve, there is a smell of sewers that appears in one of the bedrooms making it difficult to sleep there, this didn't impact us as we only needed 3 bedrooms however if the 4th bedroom was needed that would cause an issue for others. The zips on the cushions in the living room are broken. The dishwasher and tumble dryer should be checked before each new guest arrives, dishwasher had no salt and the tumble dryer water and lint collection were full to the brim. Finally the filters in the hot tub should be cleaned more thoroughly there was a lot of debri attached to the blue filter in the bottom of the hot tub. These items are not being raised as a complaint but as a recommendation based on the price increase. We had an amazing time at the roundhouse, the pictures do not do it justice. We had one of our favourites UK holidays here at the roundhouse. Its a place you can truly switch off and reset. Thank you for a wonderful week. I'm sure we will be back soon.

We had a great stay in a lovely cottage - however there are 2 areas that would stop us from returning unless rectified.

    1. The sofa in the living area need replacing as it is extremely uncomfortable and we note complaints about this go back to 2019 in the guest book. 2. Why is there no door to the bathroom and toilet area ? We dont think this would be an issue if access was to a shower room only but the toilet is also there. Cardington itself is very picturesque and the local pub The Royal Oak is excellent and only 2 minutes walk from the cottage. We found the locals very friendly and engaging and the Shropshire hills wonderful walking country. The welcome pack from Sue Tyrell was very much appreciated as was the constant supply of logs for the wood burner. All in all a brilliant break apart from the 2 points already noted above and we would definitely recommend and return once the negatives above are rectified..

The property is stunning everything you need is there.

We had a fabulous time during our stay. Gorgeous welcome afternoon tea with little cakes awaited us which was such a lovely touch. The only points for the owner is to make is clear what to take as we took the advised bin bags, oven gloves, tea towels , detergents etc and it was already there. Also when you have only booked two nights the checking in at 4pm is incredibly late and uses a massive chunk of the afternoon, and then having to check out by 10am! We were all extremely disappointed with that again all the time used by these check in limitations. If you’re asking a big group to go by 10am striping beds taking rubbish to the bins is an extreme. We all loved the property but due to the restrictions in check in etc I think it out a lot of us off rebooking. Overall the house stunning.

The roundhouse is beautiful, and the setting and views are amazing.

The hot tub is also a great feature. The layout of the house is great and the furnishings were very comfortable. The robes were also a nice touch. There were 7 of us, and we all fit nicely and had a great time. A few points i would make that need improvements are that the hot water tap in the kitchen was very temperamental, and some of the house technology is just too much..a few to many spotlights too. The checkout is far too early when you have to empty all the bins, strip the beds, and leave the house clean and tidy. You pay a lot of money to stay here, so therefore, the checkout needs to be later to accommodate the owners' needs and so the guests do not have to get up at the crack of dawn.

The Round House is in a lovely situation with woodland walks behind the house and only a 10 minute walk down into Church Stretton with its pubs, cafes, take aways and supermarket.

The National Trust is on the other side of the valley only a 5 minute drive away. We took the train from Church Stretton into Shrewsbury which only took 15 minutes and had a lovely lunch at the Prince Rupert. The kitchen is well equipped and there was a lovely welcome pack which included marshmallows which we toasted over the BBQ. The rain let up enough for us to eat out on the verandah a couple of nights which was great. After going on lots of walks it was lovely to come back to sit in the hot tub. A definite bonus. The house was immaculate and communication with Ferne was excellent. Would absolutely love to come back in the future.
