What our customers say about their holidays

A beautiful cottage set in an amazing location to visit the South of Cornwall.
Did find it slightly difficult to find initially and there is really only parking for two cars. The property was clean and tidy and had comfortable beds and sofas, a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. There is a TV downstairs and one in each of the bedrooms, and plenty of storage place. The utility room has a toilet and shower with plenty of room for coats/ shoes etc, and to dry the dog.(crate/blankets and bowls supplied). The kitchen had most things you'd need for a short stay (Although the tin opener was useless) the new Esse cooker was simple to use and there is also a combi microwave. We did find some mould on a ceramic baking dish. It would've been nice to have had salt, pepper (basics) and tin foil/cling film and kitchen towel. The garden is great, so many hidden areas to it with fruit trees and some herbs. There are three sitting areas, a bench/table near the house, a small table/chairs near the lawn and a bigger terrace with a corner garden sofa and loungers. It would've been nice to have a broom/brush and dustpan, cloth/kitchen cleaner and more toilet rolls. I also couldn't see how to recycle bottles/cans/plastics and kitchen waste. Because the rubbish bin was in front of the neighbours most of the week, it wasn't clear it was Clahar's, and had a couple of black bags ripped open. We did loose hot water one day, but after a phone call it was promptly resolved within about an hour. The shower in the bedroom does leak quite a bit from the outlet which passes through the wall to the hose (Although it did not affect the use of the shower). Other visitors said they had a bottle of fizz and a doggy biscuit, that would've been lovely, although we were left bread, butter, milk, tea and coffee, a nice surprise. These were minor, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This character property felt like a home, its decor and facilities making it a comfortable and cosy stay.
The location made it perfect for us with three beaches close by. The convenience of shops in this quaint town with all the other amenities open (many during bank holiday time) made it unnecessary to use our car which we left 200 metres away (in the Long Stay Island car park overlooking beaches, for around £10 pw). The only initial issue was the plumbing in the bath/shower area which needed unblocking.. easy enough (but the backing up of waste water needs addressing in future). Otherwise all rooms were clean and the furniture very comfortable for the three of us to either be together or find private space over the week. (Addressing a previous review: the bedding is fine now, with new towels, linen and pillows. The mattresses were firm and clean, if not new). The real wood flooring throughout made it attractive and easy to vacuum for the inevitable sand deposits. There were unique St Ives carols sung at midnight Xmas Eve outside the cottage, by local singers in Cornish, one told us heâd been doing this for fifty years. Beat that. It was magical. Our dogs loved it and were easily accommodated with all the nearby walks. The neighbours were very friendly too, gathering outside for chats and drinks/snacks. This was a great stay to add to our memories of family Christmas.

Clahar Cottage is a stunning cottage in a great location.
The interior has been done is such a tasteful way to maintain the history of the building but also offer modern facilities. The garden is a great haven with plenty of seating dotted around to hide in! We enjoyed many walks both from the cottage or within a short drive and our dogs have just loved it! My only very very very small niggles are the lack of a hoover/good brush and some cleaning products as when you are in and out from walks with dogs the boot room got really mucky and I would like to have left it cleaner. A word of warning if you are tall like my husband - walk around with a stoop as he bashed his head on the back door more than once and the low beam in the kitchen near the kettle. You think heâd have learnt the first time but it seemed to knock all his sense out of him!!!!! The steps to the first floor are also narrow in depth and thus steeper which some may struggle with. However these are just things you have to accept in an old listed building and become conscious of during your stay. I hope to return to Clahar again. It was so nice to be able to be in a rural quiet location but also within walking distance to food shops and pubs which meant we hardly had to drive. I highly recommend you try Clahar for yourself, you wonât regret it!

Clahar Cottage is gorgeous, both inside and out.
From the moment we stepped through the door we felt at home and it had everything we could possibly need, plus and more besides. The house was spotlessly clean, and a vase of roses, milk, biscuits, bread and butter were waiting for us along with some logs and kindling to get the log burner started. The cottage is in a fabulous location, we walked to most places (pubs, beaches, village shop, restaurants etc). I would highly recommend it, and we will rebook to stay again. Tip for anyone who uses the smart TV's in the house: delete your Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts when you leave! Some of the TV's had 3 separate accounts save to it, meaning we could have bought movies etc using someone else's account. Obviously we didn't do this, but some people may not be as honest as us. We were amazed that previous tenants had left themselves open to this happening to them. We took our Fire TV stick with us and accessed our Prime/Netflix/iPlayer accounts etc via that, which is by far the safer option. One other small thing to note: The dishwasher is very loud. I'm not sure if that's normal, maybe it is just a very noisy machine, but I have never had one that is as loud as that so might be worth the housekeeper checking it is working ok, just to be safe.

Even though we were aware that the property has been recently refurbished, it exceeded expectations!
Everything has been recently replaced or decorated from the kitchen to the bathroom, carpets, furniture, the lot! We enjoyed the comfort of the lounge and the tv package also has sky cinema for the evenings. Breakfast on the balcony was a lovely way to start each morning. You can see the sea just over the field The location is fantastic. The property is in a quiet close and you are about 10 mins walk to the coastal path where you can walk to polperro (about 40 mins) or Talland Bay (about 15mins). The coast path is stunning. We saw Seals but several people mentioned seeing a pod of about 15 dolphins in Talland Bay the day before. Itâs also just off the main road to Polperro, meaning you can quickly get on the main road in the morning and visit places further afield if you wish. Weâd also recommend the pub at the caravan park a few minutes walk away and itâs worth mentioning that they do food and takeaway service too. Some take aways in Looe also deliver for a small delivery fee. There are designated spaces for parking of the carport or garage and while both can be squeeze (especially if there are other cars in the close) it is no hardship to park around the corner 50-100 yards away
