What our customers say about their holidays

Lovely house with a great location and very comfortable.
Unfortunately the cleanliness and maintenance of the property has affected my feedback. I have stayed in Sykes properties several times and always found them to be of the highest quality. However, on this occasion this is not the case. Firstly the view from the balcony did not match the photographs. A flag has been cleverly placed on the railing of the balcony when the photo for your website was taken to hide the view - which is in fact a derelict building that is an eyesore! Then there is the cleanliness of the property as follows that I have taken photos of if the company wishes to see them. - lots of dirt and dust on the bedroom plugs, litter under the bed, dust and dirt on the mattress for the travel cot that is on top of the wardrobe, stains down the bathroom door, dust and sand underneath the living room couch, dirt on the living room floor that looked like it had not been mopped. The balcony decking was tired and worn looking, there was chewing gum on the balcony floor and an empty bottle of beer and some material in the guttering of the balcony that must have been dropped there by a previous holiday maker. Then re maintenance some of the kitchen cupboards and the sink taps were loose, no instructions on how to use the tv or electric fire. There was a remote control in one of the kitchen drawers that I think may be for the fire but it had no batteries in it. We could not work the central heating as there were no instructions and one of the nights that we stayed was cold. I have to say that the beds and linen were very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and the shower good. I have given 3 stars overall due to the property location and layout.

The lodge was spotless and super clean.
The rooms where of good size and the living area big enough. There is room for 2 cars outside you lodge but will get crowded when other lodges full. The pans in the kitchen arenât the best as scratched to bits to food sticks. The kitchen knives are poor and donât cut very well. The hot tub is just that, a tub that is hot as 70% of jets do work but there are very few bubbles and no force from the jets that work we reported it several times just to be told that we needed to turn the jets on. They where all on as water was coming out of them but with no power. We had no WiFi for 5 days and we reported this on day one just took 5 days to fix. They did eventually get it fixed but the strength was 3mbps not enough for our daughter to watch YouTube kids. I understand it may be week in rural areas but not powering one device is shocking. The lodge squeaks and when I say squeaks you canât move upstairs without waking everyone up you canât roll over in bed as floor squeaks you canât walk to bathroom or on stairs as itâs so loads everyone wakes up. The upstairs double bed rolls you into the middle and the bed squeaks as well The lodge is warm and cosy water is hot once warmed up. Caretaker was polite and did try to fix everything for us but in this day and age you would expect WiFi and a hot tub that worked fully.

We have stayed many times at fellcroft and find it a gem of a holiday cottage but sadly this year we feel disappointed with heart of the lakes.
/ Sykes cottages Back in February we reported the tumble dryer wasnât working to which we were reassured a new part would be ordered. However, arriving again in august we found the same problem with the dryer. The main office was contacted again to which we were informed âwe will phone you straight backâ. We didnât get a return call so called in to the local office at Ambleside. The maintenance team said they would call to the property to which they did and left a message with another family member saying they had got the serial number for the washer dryer. However, we did not get another call from HOL during the holiday period. Being Avid swimmers we choose a cottage with the facilities of having a washer/dryer. Due to the unpredictable Lake District weather you cannot guarantee you can dry washing outside or have the facilities to do so. Fortunately for us we had an exceptional week of good weather to dry towels outside on the airer We are returning to the property in the Autumn and hope this issue will be rectified . If you advertise the property of having a washer /dryer then please make sure the facilities work . This is what we are paying for. Thank you

We were really disappointed on arrival there were weeds on steps to entrance of cottage which didnât make for a good 1st impression.
Then shoe rack was snapped in 2 which didnât need to be there. Decking plank was sticking up which just needed a nail to secure. Hot tub cover was all ripped and steps leading to hot tub was rusty on top and underneath. Mat outside was full of holes. Tiny pillows in oversized pillow cases. Quilts with stains on them. Leak from upstairs sink and major leak from bath which came into hallway downstairs. We were moved to a property next door on 2nd day which was much more cared for but spent half a day moving from one accommodation to another which took up half of day.not a call from owner to ask if we were ok or apologises. We had booked Saturday to Saturday but were asked to moved on Friday as people had booked for the property but we refused to pack up again for 1 more night. We shouldâve been offered compensation for the initial move but were only offered compensation to move the 2nd time. We feel this listing shouldnât be on Sykes Cottages as we have booked numerous holidays with Sykes and never had an issue, and it gives Sykes a bad name

The house was immaculately clean when we arrived - thank you to Angie, the housekeeper.
The fresh flowers, port and chocolates were a lovely welcoming gift as well. This is more a cherished home than a holiday let. All of the furnishings and artwork have been lovingly chosen to enhance the historical features of the house and there is every modern comfort that you could wish for. The kitchen is very well equipped and the super king sized bed was so comfortable. We were half expecting the house to be a little chilly, considering its great age and the size of the rooms, but the heating was very efficient and there was always plenty of hot water. We lit the log burner every evening and we were very cosy - there is also a plentiful supply of logs. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is an ideal location. Apart from the rooks nest building and visits from Clare's flock of sheep in the orchard there was no other noise. Absolute bliss. This is an exceptional property - the best we've stayed in - and we booked a return visit for the autumn as soon as we were home. Many thanks to the owners for a very special stay.
