  We arrived in the pitch black and it was a scary drive to the house (tiny roads) but so worth it.

  The first thing we found was biscuits, tea, coffee, milk and what a GODSEND that was! Thank you!! I was never so happy until I saw them. The house is beautiful and clean with four poster beds, jacuzzi for about 6, lovely conservatory, dining room with real fire, sitting room with fake fire (which sadly didn’t work when we were there) and well-equipped farm kitchen. Linens and towels and some soaps and toilet rolls provided. Only one bedroom has en-suite with bath but there were 3 other shared bathrooms and the one I used had the best shower ever - so powerful. All the beds were comfy (everyone said so!) with fresh linen sheets and very plumped up pillows. More than enough for everyone. We had to use some initiative to work out the central heating as no instructions. Basically, the thermostat is upstairs, left down the long corridor and next to the furthest upstairs bedroom. Once that was spotted, we were toasty and warm. The electric fire needed instructions - using iPhones to photograph the back of the fire told us it was a Dimplex Oakhurst so we looked up instructions on the internet but as the lights didn’t work, we contacted The caretaker who suggested we didn’t use it. We didn’t miss it though and preferred the real fire anyway which was well stocked with wood and fire lighters. The S’mores we cooked by the fire with the children were delicious. The Wi-Fi and instructions were clear and good info in a sheet about rubbish and toilets. The Jacuzzi was amazing! So hot when I first got in and easily took 5 of us. Again, some instructions on use would be helpful but we worked it out (ish) with experimentation. The view from the tub is AMAZING - right over the valley to the hills opposite - we felt like kings. One touch the house owners might like to add to make it perfect would be some fairy lights on the patio and leading to the jacuzzi for evening sessions with just adults. It was a lovely stay and we really enjoyed it. A few niggles but excellent on the whole.

  It’s a beautiful house with stunning views.

  It’s reasonably well equipped and has plenty of comfortable seating indoors for a large family. The beds are all very comfortable and the house was clean and tidy when we arrived. The welcome pack was the best we’ve ever had in decades of renting holiday lets. What lets the place down is basic maintenance. The steep stone stairs to the lower floor are hazardous and we could not use that floor as planned for our elderly parents. The advert is not clear that use of this floor involves a descent down stone stairs with a piece of loose carpet over the top stair. That floor seems not to have been used for a long time as it smelt musty. The shower tray is extremely slippy and needs a non-slip mat. Because our disabled parents could not use this floor, we had to give them the twin en-suite so that they would at least have their own bathroom. They usually sleep together in a King size bed and so we worried all week that they would fall from the single beds. Upstairs, the main bathroom shower hose is broken and needs replacing. The most disappointing element was the gardens. They have not been maintained at all and there is no comfortable seating - a picnic bench and a rusty metal patio set are not suitable for a large family to relax. There was also no means for outdoor cooking. For those reasons, we did not use the gardens at all. The upstairs roof garden was dirty and full of soil from the gutters. Once again, this could not be used.

  A blissful break in gorgeous surroundings

  This was a repeat stay, and we booked for next year before we left, that probably says everything. It just keeps better. The cottages and grounds are amazing, and paradise for children. You can visit the animals whenever or take part in feeding at set times. It's a little out of the way, in terms of walking to places, but a 5 min drive to the nearest cove (a lovely family safe beach) and Ilfracombe and Woolacombe are close too. Lots of other attractions in North Devon are very reachable if you want to leave the site but you could stay there the whole time and never be bored (we have to pull my children away from the playground!) The collaborations (massage therapist, art, ice cream van etc) are well thought out and means you can add to your holiday easily. Special mention to the pool which is well heated and a great size. There is something very special and we can't wait to return. Holdstone Cottage is great and well suited to a family of four. The child equipment is always well thought out (eg. Toilet seat, step, highchair, bed guard) and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to prepare meals. It's a nice touch to provide cleaning equipment, dishwasher tablets, washing tablets etc. There is a good honesty shop too so you're never stuck. If there is ever a problem or query the team respond promptly. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

  This accommodation is great.

  It was in a perfect place for us to visit relatives who live nearby. It looks lovely and the sheep nearby kept us entertained. It was quiet and private and not far from Abersoch village although I doubt that you would want to walk into the village to eat at night. Parking space was excellent. We are a couple so had plenty of space and equipment. We have stayed here before and would certainly stay again. A few minor things need to be improved we think. The water from the hot taps is VERY hot. Dangerous if children are staying. A warning is needed. The quilt was very hot too for the time of the year. We had to borrow a lighter one. The bed was very comfortable although not much space to get out if a toilet visit is needed during the night. Some pans and crockery were not clean. We were not sure when the accommodation was last occupied but it was a little off putting. Disappointing as there was a dish washer. There was no dishwasher salt or rinse aid. I was not inclined to buy any as I have plenty at home and wanted to use the dishwasher only 3 times in one week. We dined out in a few wonderful restaurants! We know that the internet had been newly installed but didn’t manage to get it to work at all. We weren’t that bothered but others might be.
