What our customers say about their holidays

  • Trudi - Verified booking

We've just returned from an absolutely wonderful 4 nights in the Declaration Suite over the Easter bank holiday.

The apartment was very well appointed and IMMACULATE, with a spotless kitchen and mould/watermark free bathrooms - even the skirting boards were dust free! The beds were very comfortable and the main bed was wider than a King. The second bedroom was arranged as two singles for our teenagers; both beds were comfortable and there was a fantastic dressing table, which our daughter was very pleased to discover! The owners supplied thick, soft blankets which were perfect for sofa snuggles, and protecting the lovely white bedding from paw prints. The music theme decor included a record player (which the kids had never seen before!) with Bluetooth technology, keeping everyone entertained. Everything Jules and Mike advertised is accurate - the owners really do care about guests having a fantastic experience. Gail managed our stay personally, sharing local information, offering to make table reservations, and checking in on us to see if we were happy or needed anything at all. She also recommended a local takeaway that we ordered from on JustEat - recommend the pizza! We didn't try any restaurants/pubs, but there were plenty to choose from locally, and in Prestatyn and Rhyl. First class service, in a first class establishment! Points to consider: 1) the high windows have roller blinds blinds, which are very easy to use, but allowed light in through all sides - easily reduced by putting spare pillows on the windowsills to block the gap! We would take blindfolds next time. 2) there are OODLES of sightseeing and walking opportunities nearby; definitely take walking boots/shoes as the local typography is very hilly. There's a flat, paved beach walk/cycle from Prestatyn to Rhyl, which took us an hour to walk both ways with the dog. Be aware that the path is open to dogs, but the sandy beaches aren't from May until after the summer. Check when the tide goes out if you want sandy toes in the a.m.! 3) there's a Tesco, Lidl and Aldi a short drive away (plus the usual shops found on retail parks). We would've packed less food and shopped locally after arriving. 4) if you're not used to sleeping in a flat/apartment, you might consider ear plugs, just in case the guests above you are up later than you are. The first guests above us made more noise, but the second guests were very quiet and didn't disturb us at all. Gail was thoughtful and vigilant in ensuring guests were aware and considerate of eachother.

On arrival, out of respect, I took my shoes off but unfortunately the carpet in the bedroom was soaking wet.

When discussed with staff, they said it had been deep cleaned prior to us arriving. The cabin was clean and well presented but unfortunately with the carpet being so wet, there was a strong damp smell throughout. The shower was cold. This was mentioned to the reception staff, no one came to sort it. Due to having PTSD, I have a service dog. I explained this to staff but unfortunately this wasn’t passed down and I was repeatedly questioned by multiple staff (some lovely, some not so kind) about this even though she had her labelled harness on. Unfortunately, 1 member of the bar staff was extremely rude- when I went to the bar to get a drink she was standing with her work colleague, looked me up and down and said to her work colleague ‘You can sort that one’. There was a dog roaming around outside the cabins, pooing everywhere which the owner didn’t clean up even though there are lots of dog bins. I had to point this out to staff. I refuse to pick up other people’s dogs poo. On leaving, there were two males sat in their car on the carpark right outside reception smoking very strong cannabis. Marian staff were seen walking past the car but nothing was mentioned. The car parking spaces were small and the disabled parking spaces were small too, there was only 4 and were being used by people in large trucks with no blue badges displayed. As a disabled badge owner, this is extremely frustrating!! I would like to say on a positive note- Jason the handyman was an absolute godsend and I wished I got to thank him before we left.

This cottage is in a great location for visiting North Wales.

Selling point for us is the covered verandah and decking which housed the hot tub, outside table and chairs, double swinging seat. So even on the days when the weather was drizzling with rain, we were still able to enjoy the outside space. The cottage is cosy and spacious. The warm air radiators are lovely and responsive should you need them to take the chill off on a cold wet day. Welcome basket was a very nice touch and very generous too with fresh baked bread, shortbread, kettle chips, bottle of wine, coffee, welsh butter and cheese. A couple of small issues were quickly dealt with by the lovely hosts, there was an essential item missing from the kitchen which was rectified almost immediately. I would like to see a couple more dishes in the kitchen, maybe supply enough for 6, then there is always extra dishes to use for serving up etc. and a colander would have been useful - small things that would make life a little easier if you want to cook and eat in. But that didnt detract from our enjoyment. The best compliment we could pay is to say that we would return to the lovely Acorns cottage.

What a beautiful village, everything you need and more.

The village residents are so welcoming and helpful. Strength rooms are perfectly positioned at the bottom of the village opposite the waterfall and seating area, which is very well cared for, The apartment is perfect. We were in dog friendly ground floor appt 2 of which there are 2. The upper floors are not for dogs. Everything you needed was in the apptment. Beds were comfy, bathrooms modern and both had showers, one over bath one cubicle. The only thing that was uncomfy was the low settee with no headrest. We used pillows off the bed. It had Alexa, smart TV and the history of the owners group alarm all over the appt was great to see. Gail, the manager was wonderful and also available in the licensed cafe, the Red, next door, just a putty it wasn't open over tea time, but great coffee and cake, the pub a bit further on opp the church served great food though. We had a great stay, wished we had booked longer, and will be back. Thank you so much for letting us stay

    Overall, a great stay!

The cottage is home-home with great facilities. The bed is super cosy and Bev thinks of all the extra's with duck or normal pillows! Bev and Phil are both lovely people, warm and welcoming and eager to make sure everything is okay with the property. The outdoor space is lovely and so peaceful listening to the owl's on an evening. Ella and Phoebe loved the outdoor space to explore. Our only minor comment would be about the washing machine, it may be more beneficial to have a washing machine that the guests can use to do their own washing in, rather than your home washing machine, it's quiet personal giving washing over to Jim and wasn't something I was comfortable with! A few tat recommendations: • the cutlery in the draw, mainly sharp knives are a little blunt we noticed whilst trying to cut veg. • a shower caddy would be helpful in the shower. Great stay in your lovely cottage, and a very relaxing break!
