What our customers say about their holidays

**Review of Ty Coed Cottage, Beaumaris, Anglesey** Ty Coed is a charming and warm cottage, ideally located for exploring the beautiful island of Anglesey and within walking distance of Beaumaris.
Its quaint and old-world appeal sets the tone for a relaxing getaway, and the convenient location is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the local scenery and attractions. However, despite its charm, Ty Coed was unfortunately let down by several issues that need addressing. The most noticeable was the poor cleaning standards: there was mould on the windows and shower, and the towels were stained, yellowed and marked, which made them feel unclean and in need of replacement. The bedding was stored in plastic bags in a mould filled cupboard or under the bed, the cutlery drawers in the kitchen could do with a deep clean, and so on. Additionally, we were greeted with rotting flowers in a vase on the windowsill with stagnant, smelly waterâa rather unpleasant first impression. The shower door was stiff and difficult to close, making showering a cumbersome task. We also encountered a more serious safety issue with sharp carpet tacks protruding from the carpet; both my son and I stepped on them, resulting in unpleasant shocks. The guest book provided in the cottage felt outdated and hadnât been updated in quite some time. It included inaccurate information, such as the promise of complimentary Nespresso capsules, which were not provided, and incorrect instructions for filling the outdoor bins. These discrepancies added to the overall sense that the property is not being maintained to the standard one would expect. Finally, the description of Ty Coed mentioned the opportunity to âsit outside and watch the world go by,â which was a key selling point for us. However, this was misleading, as the outdoor space is entirely occupied by bins, leaving no area for sitting or enjoying the outdoors. While Ty Coed has the potential to be a lovely holiday retreat, these issues significantly detracted from our stay. With improved cleanliness, maintenance, and more accurate descriptions, this cottage could truly live up to its potential. For now, though, it falls short of the charming escape it promises to be.

We always have a great time on Anglesey.
Sykes properties are of a high standard and usually very clean (the last two were spotlessly clean), but whilst we enjoyed our latest stay Ty Coed wasn't up to the cleanliness standards we have experienced before. Best if we explain. The PROS: beds were very clean, the kitchen was clean, (apart from green mould growing on a chopping board inside a cupboard), the owner didn't check before we moved in; can't have done, she was there when we arrived! The bathrooms were clean. But, the living room definitely smells of dog/dogs. We hate covers on furniture and the carpet in there smells of dogs. There was thick dust on all the stair bannisters, lots of cobwebs on the ceiling beams, over the fire, some with dead insects hanging in them. The exterior window sills at both front and back were dirty. The tiny backyard is filthy, (covered in fallen detritus) with a dog bowl full of green water, broken sticks, lots of cobwebs full of insects, some mud and dirt and the windowsills were totally covered with dirt and tree debris. The wicker draws in the bedroom, once pulled out revealed, uh, grime dirt and thick black dust. The front door sticks very badly and my wife could not lock or open it. In fact, it needs a UVPc guy out to service it! Having had this problem ourselves, at home I know that this will eventually catch guests out when the shot bolts go. The handle is so stiff its hard to open and lock, very hard. The bedroom door catches on a ceiling beam and needs a few millimetres plaining off it. Going toilet in the night could be tricky for someone with a disability (the front door definitely would be an issue). It gives us no pleasure to mention all this, but at £830 for the week we expected much, much better! The dirt and other issues mentioned looked to have been there for weeks, some months, not days, so it does need a proper deep clean in the aforementioned areas. Rest assured we won't stay at Ty Coed again! And have several pictures of all these dirty areas as well!

The property is in a lovely area, ideal for bird watching or seeing the many historical sites on Anglesey, however the location is spoilt by being right next to a pub and a nearby property with howling dogs, making it very noisy at times.
Inside there is plenty of space and most things that you would need during your stay, augmented by a welcome basket of useful goodies. Our main issue was with the bath on the top floor. This is a stand-out feature when compared to other properties and one of reasons we picked this property. Unfortunately when my wife tried to use the bath it moved as she tried to get in, so she tried to get out immediately and it moved again, almost causing her to slip and fall. As the bath moved it also caused a leak, which we moped up quickly with a towel. On inspection it was obvious that the bath is not fasted to the floor and can be moved easily with one hand. This is dangerous and it was only luck that she didnât badly hurt herself. The bath should be properly secured, or if this is the way it is supposed to be, then a warning sign should be provided to prevent further incidents. We informed Sykes Cottages about this and somebody came to the property while we were out, but they didnât secure the bath or provide any further information, so the bath was not usable during our stay. Furthermore: - The advertisement states the property has Netflix, which it does, but although it was possible to log into the guest account, whenever we selected a programme to watch, it would exit from Netflix and go back to the TV, so it was unusable. - The DVD player is not connected to the TV, so couldnât be used and the batteries in the remote seemed to have corroded. - The sofa is not very comfortable as the springs seem to have gone saggy Overall, I wouldnât recommend the property to friends, and do not think it was good value given the above problems. We await your response to the above.

Initially we were very pleased with The Granary - clean, spacious & after a while, warm.
We booked this as it was pet friendly though we hadn't appreciated that the outside space for the dogs was a small patio only, meaning for our dogs needs we had to walk them to the grassed areas both first & last thing - so up and dressed for us, no lie in! No welcome gifts - no milk, no wine, no cookies, not even any matches nor a laid fire in the woodburner. The photos show otherwise. No useful notes in a file to help us along - one A4 sheet telling us we'd be charged £15 to send anything back we left behind. So far we're not feeling very welcome. The kitchen was poorly equipped - two tired saucepans (only 1had a lid), 1 frying pan, only 4 forks (so easy to fix), 1 tea towel (again, easily fixed). Being responsible dog owners we didn't like to leave our girls so ate in every night - this kitchen didn't make this an easy event. The crockery was fine but so old fashioned (sadly not in a vintage way). Also if taking dogs be aware there are no public footpaths in this area. Our two main negatives are !. 1. The appalling Wifi - so intermittent we couldn't use any on-demand TV, neither of us could work and it was unsecured - seemed to be one account based in the main home. 2. On leaving (a day early - due to wifi) we left a written note alerting the owners to the fact that the mezzanine smoke/CO alarm flashed constantly all night long - too irritating to sleep through. This was a holiday we had worked hard for and really needed. Sadly it left a sour taste.

Guest book - previous guests kept referring to excellent "Welcome Pack", presumably from a previous owner of the cottage.
Our only Welcome Pack was the starter pack of logs for the fire. General appearance and condition of the cottage was pleasing although closer inspection revealed cracked ceiling in the kitchen (a piece of the ceiling fell onto my partner's head!), wallpaper coming off the wall in a few places, tired sealant in the bathroom and shower, heavy dust on the lamp in living room. No shaver socket, which is unusual nowadays. No cupboard storage for food. The bags for dirty laundry mentioned in the Visitors Guide were not present. Never got the hang of the woodburner and because of no instruction, it was a struggle to burn the thicker logs. All the appliances worked well and the furniture and beds were comfortable. The shower worked well. TV and WiFi work perfectly. Kitchen was bright, clean and modern. Carpets were in excellent and clean condition - so there is PLENTY of good news! It was noted that the property was up for sale which possibly explains some of the flaws. Sorry if it sounds like nitpicking but a little more attention to detail would go a long way. Nevertheless a troublefree stay.
