What our customers say about their holidays

Afallon delivered the wonderful views that attracted us to it in the first place.
There is plenty of space to spread out within the property, but we spent 90% of our time in the conservatory with the doors wide open taking in the views. The hot tub was a great addition and added to the house's collection of TV's, games machines and board games etc. The walk into the small town is closer to 50 minutes but it has all the basic shops you would need, along with some cracking little cafe's all with superb service. We also took advantage to RibRide with a 1 1/2-hour trip out to puffin island. They offer various packages, but they are highly recommended but take your own wet weather jacket just in case. Beaumaris is a short drive up the other way along the coast and has a far greater selection of shops, cafe's etc. plus, the historic court rooms, jail and castle. It's a lovely place but the seagulls are like 'Special Forces' who can steal your food (ice creams included) from you in the blink of an eye - bless em! They had me in stitches watching them attack my daughters ice cream cone. The house boasts some lovely garden areas, with some additional seating areas. Note that, like all places based in rural locations, there will be a fair number of flies etc. We were never bothered by them at all, but they do like to collect in the conservatory, but they can soon be evicted and they never made it further into the house and/or bothered with any food we had prepared. Note that the drive can look daunting to some but it's easily accessible if you take it sensibly, with plenty of parking spaces over two levels. The only error we made was that we only booked it for a week, it takes a week just to unwind and start to relax. It's a place where we would consider coming back to in the future as we've been visiting North Wales and Anglesey for over 20 years as there is so much to do. It's a stunningly beautiful location.

The moment we entered the house we could smell a sour smell.
When we explored downstairs (the bedrooms) the smell was much stronger. Other reviews have mentioned a damp smell but this was something else on top. I knelt on the bedroom floor to use an extension cable that was under the bed and the carpet stank of urine. That bedroom (the one with the shower ensuite) was impossible to sleep in because the smell was so strong it was nauseating. We contacted the housekeeper and explained that we needed two bedrooms but one of us was having to sleep on the two seater sofa in the living room. She phoned us back to say that she had tried to contact the landlord but was not getting a reply. We then emailed and whatsapped Sykes, who did not reply until we were on the journey home after a week, and even then it was just to say that our 'query' had been passed on to the customer relations team. We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and have never written a bad review or made a complaint. This house has such potential for being a really amazing place to stay, but it smelt like a cowshed, and opening windows and plugging in the diffusers that are all over the house (showing that the landlord was aware of the smell) didnt help at all. I think the smell was a combination of damp, poor drains (the sinks and toilets all gurgle when you flush) and perhaps an animal had been shut into the lowest bedroom? A much needed holiday was completely spoilt and we only stayed because we had made plans with family and friends in Bangor. Please could the owners 1. Remove the smelly carpet and clean the floorboards before replacing with new, so that nobody else has to have a horrible holiday. 2. Provide us with a refund.

Mimi and Charles were charming and gave us some useful information about the 14th century mill, itâs history, and the facilities.
The welcome pack was one of the best weâd ever had. The property was huge and easily accommodated 8 of us. The bedding, and beds are top quality and assured a great nights sleep, although âone up, all upâ seems to be the default position due to the click/latch doors and creaky floorboards! The living room is spacious and has big comfy sofas, in which to relax the evening away. The kitchen was well appointed and marvellously stocked with everything needed to cook for up to 12 hungry residents. A great deal of thought had obviously gone into that, any many other aspects of our stay. Some minor criticisms were the lighting throughout Felin, which are disjointed and quite dated, however a complete electrical refit would be an extortionate expense, so we put it down to the age of this grand old lady. The massive marble table was more than big enough for a full house, however the cushion pads on the dining chairs were flaking and looked somewhat shabby, but that could be easily remedied. The outside space is delightful, the side, walled patio overlooking the mini-harbour and the Menai Straits is enchanting. There was a private car park for the property, directly across from Felin, and as there was very little traffic down the long unmade track, it felt very secure. All in all, a beautiful property in a staggering location, ideally placed for the North Wales mainland and the amazing island of Anglesey.

Unfortunately we encountered numerous issues during our stay at Ceris Lodge and I have hesitated to write a review to give Sykes and/or the homeowner a chance to respond but we have not even had an apology from either.
The issues I initially had with the en-suite shower room door which locked itself and the upstairs toilet bulb were promptly dealt with by the lovely housekeeper - the bulb was replaced and the shower room door was opened although rendered unusable as the lock completely malfunctioned so the door had to be propped open at all times to avoid anyone getting locked in or out. 1. The lower decked area outside is quite simply dangerous, there are large holes in it where it has rotted away with a 2-3 foot drop underneath - it is completely unsafe. 2. The downstairs area of the property where the bedrooms are located is incredibly damp, most plug sockets have got air fresheners in them in what I imagine is an attempt to mask the musty/damp smell which is actually overwhelming, particularly in the en-suite bedroom. I think the humidity levels are likely well above a safe level to sleep in. 3. The bed in the master bedroom is broken on the right hand side - I fear someone may fall through it before long I could go on as there were other minor problems but I risk sounding ridiculous however these issues did spoil our holiday - I have never felt the need to write a bad review of a property before but other potential holiday makers need to be made aware, this property need serious attention and is not in a fit state stay in currently.

The owners had left a bottle of wine for us which was a nice touch, unfortunately as our stay progressed things went down-hill.
The property was not to the standard expected. On arrival the toilet seat in the en-suite bathroom was not fixed properly, and one of the basin taps was at right angles to the sink, facing the other tap. Excellent response from the housekeeper who had the issues resolved in an hour. The property was very cold, and the downstairs bedroom area was damp. The wall at the bottom of the stairs was wet to the touch, and the en-suite bedroom had an ill-fitting external door which was drafty. The instruction book for the property contained incorrect information. It specified laundry bags to be used, but these were not provided. The instructions on how to use the central heating were incorrect, specifying a hive control which was not connected the the heating system. There was no ability to recycle, as all rubbish had to be placed in the single black bin outside. We actually vacated the property a day early, and would not be happy to recommend it. The place needs some updating, especially to resolve the damp issues, but also to ensure the instructions are correct for future users.
