What our customers say about their holidays
Paul - Verified booking
Great location and view over the Bay, 5 minutes walking distance from the train station with easy access to St Ives.
Before diving into a bit of detail I would like to say my family and I had a lovely holiday at the Lanyon and made some great memories. On booking there were no reviews as it was a new listing at the time so we took a risk and overall we were very happy. The walk to the nearest dog friendly beach takes you down an undulating coast path/track which is challenging, lots of steps and takes about 10 minutes once you cross the train track. But the reward once down on the beach is great, a very nice sandy beach and no restrictions for the dog. We stayed there for several hours on one of our days. Carbis bay is a lovely sandy beach but down a steep road. There is a hotel/bar where you can have a drink or two which was nice. The beach has restriction on the time dogs are allowed, I think 10am-6pm (but pls check) The house is big and spacious, but perhaps could do with some updating in the main bathroom and shower room. All works perfectly fine but just looked a little dated. No TV in three of the bedrooms, but as we were out and about most of the time not too much of an issue. Doors: a few of the interior doors did not open or close easily, you had to apply some force and this created a loud noise each time, not so much of a problem in the day, but at night was just not great. (easily fixed I am sure) The garden is a big space which is great for the dog, but the lawn needs cutting and grass needs some attention. Also need some better quality outside furniture, what is supplied seems very much like an after thought. Also a couple of sun loungers would be great. We liked the idea of the Wood burning hot tub in advance, but there is no wood supplied and the reality once there is it all seemed like a lot of effort. Would strongly recommend installing an electric hot tub in the future, as the view is great. We had two cars, one being a largish 4x4. The driveway to the house had an old cement post to one side of the entrance which was more of a hindrance/hazard and would recommend this be removed. The main sitting room/tv room is a nice large space with comfortable seating and open fire, I would recommend they remove the main painting opposite the TV as it depicts somebody being beheaded!, not great for young kids.. St Ives: Take the rain as parking in St Ives can be problematic, it is one stop on the train. We enjoyed Cintra as a fish/tapas type restaurant overlooking the harbour. Very fresh and tasty. I hope this helps, all in all the house and location worked great for us . (3 adults, 2 children (11 & 14) and a Cockapoo dog)

"Probably the best view we've ever had of any holiday villa we've stayed at, this includes the south of France, lake district, Devon, Germany etc.
Just amazing! The house was very comfortable and had some little touches that we really loved - binoculars, really well equipped kitchen and lots of mugs, so you don't constantly have to wash up. The large fridge freezer was great and made sure we enjoyed the best of the local produce. The beds were all really comfortable and the linen good so we all slept really well. Carbis Bay is a great location, really quiet being residentail but a short walk to St Ives for all the hustle and bustle, perfect. Porthmeor beach cafe - we saw two seals swimming past whilst eating some of the best tapas and fish I've ever had . Magical! The Queens hotel St Ives - we pitched up on a rainy night and had some wonderful food, check out the menu it is just superb. And then to top it of they had an open mic night, a great time for everyone. Godolphin - we went for the bluebells and spent a great time at the property having a tour of the house and enjoying the local arts and crafts at the food and crafts fair.Glendurgan gardens - beautiful and with a great history.Clamoring over the rocks at Godrevy point and again we were joined by a seal for just a few minutes but they were very special moments. We always find Cornwall a special pace but this property made sure we could make the most of out time, even if just walking down to the beach and watching the waves roll in." "We really enjoyed our week in Carbis Bay.
Chy Lowen was beautiful, home from home and had everything we could wish for. We liked the open plan living area and the fact that all the bedrooms had a bathroom. It was in a lovely location with wonderful sea views. Very convenient to join the coastal path and walk the very scenic route in to St Ives or down to Carbis Bay beach. The nearest footpath to do this is just down the road in Parc Owles. All the beaches around here are lovely, Porthkidney is just round from Carbis Bay Beach where dogs can go all year round, although they can go on Carbis Bay beach before 8 a.m. and after 7 p.m. Lots of nice restaurants but we would highly recommend having a meal at Porthminster Beach Cafe and we also had a nice meal at The Captainâs Table which is upstairs in The Sloop Inn. Itâs a nice walk in to St Ives in the evening and easy to get a taxi back to the house if too late to walk back. We had a wonderful week with lots of walking and look forward to coming back again soon." J. Davies

Chy Lowen is a wonderful property to stay in, so much that we would like to stay again in 2024.
Some points that we noted were: 1. We found the sofa too soft. It's ok once you're in, but it's not too easy to get out of! (A minor point). 2. Ground floor bathroom. If the window was kept shut for more than a couple of days, then the smell of damp would occur. As we didn't use this bathroom very much, it wasn't an issue for us. Perhaps it would be an issue for larger parties. 3. Oven trays need replacing. 4. Corner unit to access kitchen equipment is not user friendly. 5. A large picture would be nice above the fire. 6. The lamps in the lounge are cheap and nasty. 7. Outside BBQ grill needs to be cleaned / replaced. 8. The 3 steps going up to the lawn made me nervous when wet - slippy. I'm not elderly, I'm 52. A rail may be helpful. The above are minor points and there are many positive things about the property that makes us want to stay again next year.

We loved the propertyâs location & layout, the weather was amazing and we found the house comfortable, slight gripes no microwave, toaster useless & the beds way too soft for us.
The only major let down was cleanliness, id describe this properly as surface cleaned at best, on arrival the downstairs shower room was filthy! The toilet had not been cleaned properly and the floor was thick in hair, we pushed the twin beds together and underneath was grim, this is a real let down, I had to go out buy cleaning products and clean, which I definitely would not expect to do, who ever Is responsible for this job needs a lesson in cleaning because itâs a real let down to such a lovely place. We enjoyed our stay we would definitely return if the property was deep cleaned, had I have paid the prices in high season then Iâd be really annoyed at how dirty places were! The woodwork throughout the house absolutely needs painting which looks tatty and lets the house down.
