What our customers say about their holidays

Ty Cerrig is beautifully located and enjoys superb views. The overall layout of the accommodation is well planned and spacious. There were a few teething problems in the first few days (only four wine glasses and too few plates for seven people!), but these were dealt with promptly and efficiently. Our housekeeper was very helpful, cheerful and observed all Covid guidance. Ty Cerrig has tremendous potential and almost certainly had the wow factor when first converted. It now has a slightly forgotten air about it. The soft furnishings are shabby and well worn; not of the standard generally expected from Rural Retreats, but the most surprising aspect was the general air of neglect in the garden. As this cottage is on the famous Bodnant estate, it was a surprise to find a garden that had obviously been initially well planned and designed, now somewhat neglected and slightly scruffy. The patio area in particular would benefit from weeding and sweeping! This is a rural barn conversion, so a neatly manicured garden would be inappropriate, but a tidy, clean, patio area should be standard. Shrubs etc do not appear to have been tended for a long time. During our stay, the gas ran out! This resulted in no use of the cooker hob one evening and no heating or hot water. The tank was filled the following day, so the problem was rectified, but we found it curious that this should have happened. Surely this should be regularly checked to avoid running out of gas completely? Overall, Ty Cerrig is lovely and we had a good time there, but with a little more attention to detail and a minor makeover, it would be superb. We would stay on the beautiful Bodnant estate again, but might look more carefully at our choice of cottage.

It was a pleasant cottage with good space. A bit too close to another cottage which we didn't realise by booking online but luckily the occupants daughter was getting married, so they went away middle of the week so we did have complete quiet. Dishwasher literally blew up on first night and was unusable. It was replaced 3 days later. Several lights didn't work upstairs from when we arrived and weren't fixed by the time we left. A succession of people came to the cottage to repair, look and attempt to fix or fix things so not relaxing from that viewpoint. Not a complete disaster, but it would have been nice to have had a little recompense from Bodnant like a freebie apple juice or something as a recognition that things didn't quite go as smoothly as they should have done that week. They also took the drying up cloths when they changed the dishwasher over which was very irritating for the remaining days. No not perfect, but it was fine which surprised us as our previous experiences with Rural Retreats have been wonderful.

The cottage was very comfortable and to the usual quality we have come to expect from Rural Retreats. It was set in a lovely rural location and had a real hideaway feel about it. Great walks straight from the cottage and lots to do in the area. The only reason I have deducted a star is that the housekeeping wasn't quite as spot on as previous Rural Retreat cottages and we felt its location at the end of a long, single track, steep and winding road with only a few passing places, should have been emphasised more in the information prior to booking. We were glad we had arrived in daylight!!

A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location.
The cottage was perfect and had everything that we could ask for it was clean and well situated. The welcome pack was just what we needed after a long journey. Llanfairfechan is a gem; it is somewhere we'd never previously considered in North Wales and we have holidayed in this area several times in the past. The Beach Pavilion and Riverside are both places we enjoyed locally, along with walking along the village roads and paths. The weather wasn't great but we still had one of the best holidays we've had. We avoided the rain and the cottage was such a lovely base to go back to.
