What our customers say about their holidays
Vicki - Verified booking
Weâve just come back from a week away at Valley View with our three children and two dogs.
The house itself is amazing. Beautifully positioned with stunning views across the valley. Tastefully decorated throughout and very homely. The beds were extremely comfortable, the bed linen was on a par, if not better than some top hotels weâve stayed in. The towels were thick and all colour coordinated each bathroom/bedroom. The kitchen was very well equipped and the washing machine and tumble dryer came in very handy after wet walks along the beach. There is plenty of seating inside and out for everyone and ample garden space. The fire pit and BBQ, whilst only used once due to weather, was great. We didnât use the sauna, which is situated off the ground floor bedroom but made very good use of the hot tub, even in the rain! The hot tub is maintained by Kevin three times a week. There are plenty of DVDâs (although we didnât watch any as took a Fire Stick with us), books and games at Valley View to keep everyone occupied. We absolutely loved being able to have fresh hen and duck eggs every day, which are collected and kept just outside the property and money can be left in an honesty tin along with extra logs and kindling if needed for the woodburner and fire pit. Parking was ample. We had two cars due to the amount of passengers/luggage and my Fiat 500 was not touched for the whole week, mainly due to passengers and comfort when going out, but also because itâs very steep and windy all around this area. Our family car is automatic and managed it very well but just be mindful if you have any mobility issues. Whilst the weather wasnât on our side for most of the week, we still managed to get out and about and enjoy the sights. A trip to Ilfracombe Harbour and seeing âVerityâ is a must and taking a trip up to St Nicholasâ Chapel and seeing the history there. We went for dinner at Antidote in Ilfracombe one evening which is a Michelin restaurant and highly recommended but booking well in advance is essential. Woolacombe beach and Saunton Sands are sandy beaches which stretch three miles each and are breathtaking (would look even more stunning whilst the sun was shining Iâd imagine) and itâs definitely a surfers paradise. The dogs thoroughly enjoyed these beaches and the sand dunes. Hele Mill for cream teas should definitely be on your list. The miller and his wife are very hospitable and the miller entertains all guests with puzzles and talking about the mill. The millers wife bakes all her own cakes and scones with the flour from this working mill. The history is amazing. Watermouth Castle was lovely, though rather eclectic, and remember to bring lots of loose change for all the old machines they have there. Outside the gardens are beautiful and the rides they have are mostly suited to younger children, probably under 10 Iâd say. We would highly recommend staying at Valley View. Kevin and Jackie were very helpful, ensured we had everything we needed to make our stay the best it could be - so thank you so much for that. Jackie even let our youngest collect the hen and duck eggs, whilst Claire who has horses in the field next door, let our daughter pet them and talked to her about them (she now wants one!). Everyone was very friendly and we were quite sad to leave. We will hopefully return. Huge thanks to Kevin and Jackie for your hospitality, your hard work in making our stay a pleasant one was much appreciated.

Arrived at 5.
30pm almost dark. Lot of people milling around as nighttime Halloween event being held. Signage to apartment at back of castle very poor and we were ârescuedâ by helpful and friendly electrician, Parking requested at front because of event. Immediate poor reaction on entry as straight into living area dull and smelly. A request the following morning for new extractor filter (filthy) and lightbulb was fairly promptly dealt with. Carpet seemed grubby and place somewhat dusty. Table and chairs need replacing. Seating comfortable if old fashioned. Bathrooms clean and appeared to be recently refurbished and decorated. Good showers and plenty of hot water. Bedrooms OK ish and bed and bedding very comfortable. Lighting everywhere poor. Entrance area scruffy and outlook depressing - bins and parking area. Having a ground floor good for access for dog though but no nearby grassy areas. Welcome supplies appreciated and OK kitchen area well stocked with china etc. dishwasher would be good ? We enjoyed the castle and Halloween event and loved the local area but felt disappointed with the overall condition and location of the apartment - it was depressing. Whilst we understand trying to maintain the character of the building this space is, we believe, in need of an update and we did not feel we had value for the money. I would like to have seen the other apartments for comparison but disappointingly we were not impressed with ours.

A beautiful big home in the valley.
Valley View really lives up to it's name. It's a very big beautiful home surrounded on all side by sweeping views of the valley The property photos are great and accurate, what you don't see though is just how big and quirky the home is. It has lots of amazing features and I loved all the different floor levels throughout the house I would love to have seen and air fryer in the kitchen but 7 burner twin oven range cooker really did do the job. You could of course cook outside on the bbq if you wanted to. The kitchen was FULLY stocked in terms of all other equipment. Lots of plates, cups cutlery Loads of pots, pans, serving dishes, large trays to cook with and way too many cooking utensils to mention. All this and the house even had children's dinner sets. This really is a big quality home and I use the word home because that's how it felt the moment we arrived,. The way this place is being cared for and maintained by the caretaker Kevin really does make this place luxury with a feeling of home. Kevin is always available to help with any questions about the house and the surrounding area. You may even be lucky enough to get hold of Kevin's wife's freshly laid hen eggs. Jackie really does supply the best eggs in town. I highly recommend this property.

The property itself was nice and big with plenty of space for 10 people.
The property is well stock with everything you would need and felt this was cleaned to a very high standard We had a problem with the hot tub when we first arrived and we were told this was being checked to make sure it was okay to use as the water was a bit murky, the company that cleans the hot tub advised that they had cleaned the filter and it had been crystal clear when they left and it was just from where they cleaned the filter and would clear within 24 hours and was okay to use. We did use the hot tub but we felt that the the company that cleans the hot tub should come out more than one a week to check everything is looking okay and still okay to use. The gardens were lovely but we were a bit dissapointed that there were a few areas that were over grown and you couldn't access like the fire pit area and the pond we had lovely weather but we were unable to sit in those areas. The stairs that lead to the garden also had overgrown weeds coming through. We noticed that the railings on the main deck area were not very safe and some of the spindles were broken we just felt these areas were a bit overlooked. That being said we were impressed with the accomodation itself and nothing was too much trouble if we had any problems.

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.
The cottage was in a superb location and we spent the week walking the coast path from Porlock to Ilfracombe. We were unable to get the televisions working or the video player but once we had established how to connect the cables, we found the signal so weak that we were unable to watch a programme. We realise is not the fault of the owners. We had no problems at all with the cleanliness of the property. Having lived in an old terraced cottage ourselves, we found the same issues at Harbour Cottage as we experienced at home: black sooty like dust escapes from the loft spaces and was to be found on the floors and surfaces in tiny amounts. We have no complaints about this at all - part of the charm of living in a period property and it was evident that the property is cleaned regularly and to a high standard. Thanks for the milk left in the fridge and tea/coffee. This was lovely as we had come on a long journey and arrived late at night. The outside spaces are lovely. A cream tea was enjoyed on the top terrace using the jam left by the owners. Thank you for a lovely stay. Kay and Neerose
