What our customers say about their holidays
Rachel - Verified booking
From the photos it looked like a typical mass market holiday challet and we expected that it would be fine, clean and functional and perfectly adequate for a short break as a base to tour.
When we arrived the site strongly marketed it as a luxury holiday home for a disabled person. That changed our expectations and left us feeling utterly annoyed as it was basic, not that well maintained, pretty impracactical and not in any way luxury and not suitable for a person with a disability except that it was on one level. However, when I re read Sykes' property description on my return home, it was accurate and had only given 3 stars which was fair. It was very attractively set in a private dip in the wooded valley. We enjoyed sitting out in the evening, alhtough it was next to an unmaintained area of weeds and deteriorating decking and damaged steps up to the lodge. The beds were comfortable and the bedding clean and fresh, the fabrics were nice in the unit and it was nice to be able to order food if we wanted it. Other than that it was not great. The kitchen provision was very basic and minimal, with a low powered microwave, cracked ceramic hob, feeble extractor and all quite cramped, especially the dining room table. The toilet was not pleasant being directly off the living room and facing the door and the floor got dirtly easily and was not cleanable. There were insufficinet surfaces to put toiletries on or have contact lens or toothbrushing facilities on hand, few places for 3 people to hang wet towels and the fittings were a bit rusty. There was one bin and no provision for recycling in the cabin. We only found out that there was recycling as we were leaving by which point it was too late. The guest information was not that usefull it was more of a marketing pack for luxury accommodation. It would have been helpful to have a sweeping brush to get rid of the sand inevitably picked up from being on the beach. My daughter got a splinter from playing in the playground as child friendly bark had not been used and the windows of a cabin running along the path opened out onto the path a head height of my daughter and a risk for passers by to walk into. My husband mislaid his keys and asked reception to lock the cabin for us whilst we were away that day. They said they would but forgot and it was unlocked when we returned at the end of the day. We also did not have hot water one of the days. It was definatley not quality - basic equipment, small TV's, cheap fittings, neglected bathroom, no wi-fi except a the bar etc and not for a disabled person who having wheeled themselves in would have to navigate oddly shaped carpet edges then would not be able to reach the pegs to hang their coat, no seating to use the shower and good luck with the WC! - not the welcome I would want if I were a wheelchair user. These comments are only applicable to the owner though as Sykes do not say that it is luxury and do not say it is for a disabled person.

Iâve just got back from a few days away at Widmouth Farm Cottages and can truthfully say this is one of the nicest, cleanest and most peaceful places Iâve ever stayed.
The cottages are all laid out within a large courtyard area, with picnic benches and private gardens. I booked Robin but was very kindly upgraded to Swallow and when I walked in, I was not disappointed. First impression was that it was beautifully decorated with modern furniture and soft furnishings. It was spotlessly clean from top to bottom and very welcoming. The kitchen area is very well stocked and the bathroom is well appointed with a nice big walk in shower. The bedrooms were again spotlessly clean with crisp, fresh sheets and lovely soft furnishings, throws and cushions. Walking out of the cottage into my own front garden with furniture, out into the larger courtyard towards the animal enclosure, I didnât see much of them while I was here, but I took a walk down the field, on the mowed path to the private beach. Itâs quite steep and a little rocky but thatâs the Devon coast for you. The beach is lovely and quiet and I could see Watermouth bay from where I stood on the shore. I have nothing negative or neutral to say about this place, itâs all positive. Turning right out of the cottages and a couple of miles later, you come across Hele Bay, which is a lovely little inlet cove. I had a pasty and coffee at the cafe there and found a comfy place to soak up the sun and read. I spent several days at Woolacombe, and visited my favourite food outlet, S&P Fish Shop in Ilfracombe harbour, where I bought a delicious crab sandwich, which I took to Woolacombe and sat on the beach watching the tide come in. Widmouth Farm is beautifully kept outside too, grass neatly mowed, planters full and the courtyards all swept and clean. The helpful utility room gives you washing machine and dryer, and thereâs also a basket full of bagged animal feed, at 40p/bag and thereâs an honesty box next to it to pay for these. Thereâs also a boot wash area for ramblers. Just lovely. Thank you, Bethany and family for this wonderful and peaceful little haven. I very much hope to return!

We enjoyed our stay at July cottage, despite some cleanliness issues which we have raised with the owner separately. The location in the village is lovely, on a very sweet pedestrianised lane, and the village itself is about 20mins from Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, using narrow country roads mostly. The space is well organised and decorated, and we had most things we needed for our stay. It's worth taking extra logs for the fire - we stayed at the end of summer when days were around 18° and the cottage was chilly at night, probably because it has very thick walls, so we needed the heat of the fire. Accessibility notes as someone who has mobility issues with a knee injury - there are steps between the main bedroom and bathroom once you're upstairs. The shower screen opens outwards into the bathroom to allow more space to climb in and out of the bath. A non-slip bath mat is provided. There are a couple of types of cobbles on the wall from the car park to cottage, and the ground is generally uneven. I found these cobbles slippery in wet weather. If you arrive on the dark, make sure you have a torch to walk to the cottage. If you're planning to use the second bedroom as an adult be aware it's a small single bed very low to the ground and isn't particularly comfortable. We would consider returning if assurances were made about the cleanliness issues we've raised.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful week at Swallow Cottage.
Widmouth Farm has it all. From the approach down the drive to the parking area then onto the cottage everything was very well presented. The cottage was immaculate with no issues to report. The beds were comfortable and the outside area a bonus on a warm evening. The cottage is well equipped with everything you will need for an enjoyable stay. The dog exercise area was well looked after as was the rest of the farm. When I say farm it should really read ââEstateâ as this is one very clean farm. The animals are all friendly and very relaxed around people and dogs. The beach is a wonderful place to spend time if you want to relax with the only noise being the waves. We were pleased to have sat where the Enid Blyton film Five on a Treasure island adaptation had been filmed in 1995. You can walk to Ilfracombe along the coastal path which takes around 2 hours at a slow pace. A great location with wonderful cottage to use as a base for exploring the area.

The cottage is very well furnished with the exception of the bed in the main bedroom which was narrower than a normal double bed.
However the living area was very cramped and it was necessary to move furniture for comfort. The toilet brush was broken and cobwebs on the bedroom ceiling gave doubts about the cleaning regime, also despite being, quite rightly, asked to clear up after our dog there wsa a large amount of goose droppings in the parking area and by the cottages. While this can be expected in fields on a farm by holiday cottages and parking it is not acceptable. As there is to mobile phone signal there it was not good that there was no on-site contact in case of emergency, leaving a mobile number was not much use. All in all we were quite disappointed with Martin Cottage where we had been looking forwerd to staying.
