Nice and remote, beautiful scenery, proper peace and quiet. Nice to have separate bedrooms for our 3 kids. The house was clean and tidy, everything was easy to find. Couple of small things would make it even better; - More, smaller sauce pans - The upstairs living room floor needs de-squeaking - Would be amazing if there was one or more decent windows looking out at the views. We had a few moments where it was beautiful outside but it was hard to tell from inside. Understand that there may be structural or cost restrictions though. Not to complain though, we loved the house and would stay again in a heartbeat. Might be useful for others to know that we had Sainsburys (other grocery providers are available) deliver to us on day one to save having to do a shop. Would recommend Exmoor Adventures archery, all 5 of us enjoyed that, and riding with Brendon Manor was a hit with our horse lovers too. Thank you!

Large period sash windows overlook the impressive view over town and sea to the Welsh coastline beyond.
You will need to feed the meter £6 a day to at least keep the chill off on 2/3 low/med setting, but will require significantly more if you want cosy or if very cold or for running hot water. We went green and switched the immersion heater off and used electric shower and boiled water for basins, so spent £34 not including the £5 already in the meter when we arrived. Probably would benefit with electric blankets as the nights can be challenging. Jim Jams and bed socks a must. In the spring or summer I imagine it would be an absolute delight to stay there with all of the sash windows open and the sound of the tumbling river from the gorge below filling the main room. The furnishings, fixtures and fittings are in keeping with the historical character of the building and the kitchen has all the basic items for self catering. it has a very quirky and eclectic shared entrance, a somewhat theatrical emporium overflowing with wonderful potted plants, prints and paintings, a piano, and carefully arranged cushions, antiques and collectibles; a creative reflection of Gill - its warm and ebullient owner who clearly loves the house where she lives and welcomes her guests.

The listing advertised the property as suitable for 6 people.
Whilst the bedrooms had 2 double and 2 single beds, the downstairs accommodation could only barely accommodate 2 adults and 1 teenager. The photos definitely make it look bigger than it is. Misleading. The advertised trampoline was not there and the garden furniture was rotten and very unsafe. The games room was in poor condition with much of the equipment broken. All of the darts were broken so we only used the pool table. Access to the games room and garden was not child friendly at all and the rear entry point was a series of poorly maintained gates and doors that bordered on being dangerous. The bathroom window was broken and could not be closed. Whilst the accommodation was clean it was generally run down with much of the equipment needing to be replaced ie living room table leg was falling off, the kitchen knives had tips broken off. There was only 1 parking space available for the property which would not be ideal if you were booking for 6 guests. I would not recommend this accommodation for anyone with young children, the elderly, or anyone with mobility issues due to the amount of stairs and uneven floors and extremely poor lighting.

The house is very spacious so the ten of us were able to spread ourselves out comfortably around the place. When we arrived it felt very chilly but after a couple of hours of the heating being on the property was lovely and warm. The beds were all very comfortable and there was enough storage space in each bedroom for a long weekends worth of clothing. The property was listed as having parking for 3 cars but we easily parked a fourth car in the allocated space. The galleried seating area was a lovely space to hang out in with plenty of space for board games. The owner had very thoughtfully left us a Christmas tree and decorations to use so we had the spirit of Christmas with us whilst away from home.

After a very successful first week at the end of April 2023, it was our second stay at the Mill in mid-May, which proves that the house is ideal for 5 days of hiking in the region: from the gîte we reach the West-Coast Path, no away is Malsmead and the Vale of Lorna Doone which leads to moorland ; the East Lyn Valley from Lynmouth, the beautiful Horner Forest Nature Reserve, the pretty village of Porlock is 1/4 hour away with its stores. Dunster (medieval village), Selworthy, Lucombe are worth a visit, all in the middle of beautiful countryside. And to finish: the climb on the Dunkery Beacon 519 m highest point of the EXMOOR, a region that deserves its discovery ! Thanks to Booking Brain because it's very easy to book through them.
