What our customers say about their holidays
Stephen - Verified booking
An excellent and very spacious cabin in a truly idyllic rural situation which is bliss for those seeking exceptional tranquility and privacy.
The magnificent panoramic farmland and woodland views, literally in every direction and from the hot tub ( ! ) are a delight to behold and put Ploony Hill Cabin in a league of it's own in terms of holiday accommodation locations. Ploony Hill Cabin does however lie three quarters of a mile off the road along a rough farm track which steepens at the end (vehicles with good ground clearance best suited) but lands you on a large level hard surface parking area directly in front of the cabin. Ample turning and parking space is provided. The cabin itself would feel more homely with some pictures on the walls for example whilst another dressing mirror somewhere and a caddy of some sort in the shower would be beneficial. One or two other minor improvements could also be made. Sadly the electric footrests on the settee were not operating either and looked as if they may have been like it for a while although the settees themselves were extremely comortable. The very generous bedrooms and lovely bath/shower room, which is the largest we've come across for some time, are accessed direct from the lounge area although we didn't find same to be disadvantageous. The cabin was pleasantly warm whilst we were there at the end of September and felt like it would be even in harsher weather conditions. Despite a few shortcomings we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Peaceful (sorry .... Ploony !) Hill Cabin and would go again. Be prepared however to drive a mile or two to places of interest including your nearest shop and local ! Steve and Cheryl

The setting is beautiful!
Within a 200 acre farm with great views across the surrounding countryside. If you want to get away from it all, Ploony Hill Cabin offers a quiet idyllic retreat. We enjoyed the numerous short walks from the cabin with our two dogs. However, in my opinion the cabin itself is quite sterile. It is definitely clean, but offers the basic in comforts and I do feel itâs lacking in some touches that would enhance the feel of the cabin, such as additional home decorations. It is extremely sparse, without cushions on the couches or pictures on the walls etc. Maybe it is just me and the minimal interior would suit others. There was a DVD player, but no selection dvdâs offered. It was fortunate that we bring everything with us as there wasnât any tea, coffee or milk available when we arrived for that all important cuppa after travelling. I will also have to mention the NUMEROUS reminders for us to clean the cabin! Okay, a booking confirmation with a request for you to hoover and leave the cabin as you found it or will be charged was acceptable, but an information booklet, a laminated sheet AND a picture framed reminder within the cabin, as well as an email sent a day before the end of our stay, in my opinion (again) is definitely too much!

The bungalow and itâs surroundings were even better than our already high expectations!
We found the bungalow immaculate with everything you could possibly need. The gardens surrounding the property are well kept with stunning views from every direction. We found it so peaceful with only the distance sounds of the sheep. Our dog loved it too as it was completely enclosed with so much for her to explore. The hot tub is huge which we enjoyed each evening admiring the views. The Seven Stars Pub is literally at the bottom of the drive and as it is also dog friendly, we ate there several times and thought the food was very good. We visited Llewellynâs Cave, Elan Valley and Builth Wells which is the nearest town. I would say remember to take your basics such as bread and milk etc as there are no shops in a short walking distance. On arrival there was a freshly made cake and a beautiful bunch of flowers to greet us which we thought was such a lovely added touch. We didnât meet the owners (apparently our dog did) however they are at hand if needed just very discreet. We enjoyed having breakfast each morning watching so many bird species on the feeder and in the garden. We were sad to leave and are definitely hoping to return.

Photos didnât do this haven justice - a beautiful setting with private welsh countryside views.
Totally private, huge garden, massive hot tub - the biggest weâve ever seen, watched the birds feeding outside from the dining table, immaculately clean, modernised throughout, spacious, lovely real woodburner, homemade cake awaiting our arrival. Had two meals out at the local pub The Seven Stars - just had to walk down the drive to get there - really friendly welcoming locals. A talented local man walks his dog across the hill playing his harmonica, stunning church such a peaceful village, wish I lived here! Only advertised as having one bathroom, but it has two really - a nice modern big bath with mixer tap and separate shower, and another en-suite bathroom which has another shower and toilet - so two toilets, two showers and a bath. Really handy utility room with a dog cage - our two dogs actually liked going in there which was their first time in one! - it kept our one year old King Charles calm while we were in the hot tub (as he tried to get in with us!) we all loved it! Xxx

Cannot fault the location or cleanliness of the cabin.
Situated in a beautiful location overlooking the valley and the cabin was spotless inside. However we have stayed at several Sykes cottages and this is the first instance where the owner hasn't taken the opportunity to check whether everything is ok, had we settled in, needed anything etc. Not a huge issue as we just got on with things, but surely just out of courtesy maybe a short 'hello' text would have been nice, if the owner felt they might have been intruding if they came up to the property. Unfortunately during our stay a glass was broken in the dishwasher, and because my partner is very conscientious she left a small note and some money to replace the glass and there hasn't even been a thank you from the owner yet. An amazing holiday cottage for the location and cleanliness but sadly let down by the attitude of the owner which came across as a bit uncaring. Surprising as we read other reviews before booking and the owners were praised for being so helpful and friendly.
