What our customers say about their holidays

We had a lovely stay at the Hay barn and we thought it was a beautiful property.
Just a couple of things Iâd like to mention. On arrival we took our dogs for a walk around to familiarise ourselves and the neighbours cocker spaniel decided to run out and attack my dog. My dog was on a lead and this was totally unprovoked so I think the owners either need to put a gate up or tie their dog up if itâs going to greet guests and their dogs in this manner. Secondly the bin stall which is right outside the Hay Barn and opposite the pool was a bit of an eye sore and could do with being organised a bit better as quite off putting on arrival. Thirdly the property advertises a king and queen room. The twin beds put together to make the queen do not fit together properly and I kept falling through the middle and couldnât cuddle up to my partner. Just a suggestion but I think the electric car charger also needs to be PIN code protected or it needs a sign with instructions as to who can use to to avoid any confusion. Other than these few minor issues we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and this area of Devon is really picturesque. The garden wasnât overlooked and there was lots of birds and nature around us. The house was well stocked with cooking utensils for those who wish to cook.

Was a good holiday generally, owner was friendly and pool was big and kids loved it.
The only point to make in the interests of a balanced review would be that there were quite a few small things that whilst not really having any impact on the holiday were a bit niggly given what weâd paid: Garden was not self contained as advertised so we couldnât just let our dog out without supervision. This was a pain tbh. No toilet extractor fans worked. One toilet was very hard to flush. Downstairs toilet door very hard to open as it had swelled and scraped on the floor. Wifi was rubbish tbh, no bandwidth. Pool floor had a couple of tiles missing and my daughter cut her foot (not badly) on one of the edges. Shrubs around house all overgrown and so when it rained it was hard not to get wet whilst trying to walk past them. Other than that all good, but the place would definitely benefit from some TLC.

Not off to a great start.
The dishwasher was full of very smelly water in the bottom, apparently no one had checked that a cycle was complete. The washing machine had had the water turned off to it, so took a while to work this out & be able to use it. No airer to dry clothes on, & the drier didn't work on washing machine. Quite a few of the light bulbs weren't working & although there were details about where bulbs were kept, I don't expect to be a maintenance person the moment I arrive on holiday! The shower in the bedroom doesn't drain away properly so difficult to clean. Certainly these issues presented us with a disappointing view of our accommodation. Having paid what I feel was a lot of money for one week this property is a little jaded & tired & could do with some maintenance to justify the price

Lovely cottage, lovely greeting- cake, flowers and milk.
well equipped kitchen, even a knife sharpener. Only fault in kitchen was where it is half conservatory there were no blinds for the glass roof, so our dogs were a bit nervous and they barked at the wrong time of day/ night. Hot shower, nicely presented bathroom, and downstairs toilet. The two Patio steps were a bit deep. Garden is fenced adequately, could do with being a bit higher at the bottom of the garden. Next to a farmers field which was growing some kind of grass. Pleased it was not livestock, as we have young dogs who are very curious about other animals. If you want peace and bird song, with only the odd car noise, this is the place to come. Would thoroughly recommend. Would hire again, but would take our own pillows.

Hi my wife and I enjoyed a comfortable and pleasant stay at 1 Gaberwell Cottage in September The Cottage is very cosy and contains all the facilities required for our stay.
The location is lovely and the village and local pub (The Dolphin) are both picturesque and nearby. There are a good number of walks a short drive away, with beaches where you can walk with your dog, in the summer months. The Dolphin needs a mention as we did not see it possible to walk and enjoy a meal at any of the other surrounding village pubs. Food and beer is good and meals plentiful but you must book tables on the days you wish to eat, as the local inhabitants use the Pub for celebration meals so even Monday can be busy! The shop at St Anneâs Chapel is good to visit and has most things you need for days out rain or shine. Yes we would love to visit again with our dog Charlie.
