What our customers say about their holidays

Stayed here with family ranging from 78 to 11 years and the dog for a week during February half term.
On arrival a beautiful welcome hamper that was much appreciated. Staples in cupboards and jars that was simply brilliant too. Lounge area open and welcoming and the upstairs lounge has a TV and equally comfortable furniture. The fire log burner is a brilliant addition and makes it lovely and cosy. Lovely secluded garden that's safe for the dog to go out in. We arrived in the middle of Storm Eunice leading into storm Franklin and any previous damage was unseen and tidied away by the housekeeper. Sadly during our stay we came home to a powercut - no ones fault just one of those things. The owner of the property had already contacted us on arrival to make sure everything was fine and I let him know when the power went off. He was so brilliant and did everything he could, even though the power cut was out of his hands. Superb host - thank you so much Neil. We ate at the local Combe Barton Inn which had beautiful food and welcoming staff and is also dog friendly. The Cabin Cafe was also a delight and is highly recommended- they were also super lovely during the power cut and provided bacon rolls and hit drinks to the local community. There is a little beach down there too which is very pretty. Next door to the house is a crackington shop ..very small, staffed by locals but very well stocked for all essentials. If I had one criticism it would be the showers ..... they are electric and the intermittent hot and cold water and lack of water pressure can be amnoying ....but first world problems !! Didn't detract from the wonderful time we had but would be nice if they were upgraded to be 5* like the rest of the property. The house is situated in a beautiful village within walking distance if the beach, although its an EXTREMELY steep hill back up !! It is quite far off the beaten track so a good 15-20 minutes to the nearest town. Thank you Neil we gad a wonderful time and you were an amazing host. Would recommend to any large families wanting a laid back, comfortable break.

We are not people to ever leave a review, however we donât want other families to book this cottage without knowing what the facilities are really like as we feel the description and photos are misleading.
We knew the cottage was on farm land, however we were of the understanding that the Wagon Linney was a detached cottage on farm land and the farm would be somewhere within the 10 acres of land. However, The wagon Linney is a terraced property along with several other holiday cottages that are within a converted farm building and the cows are kept extremely close therefore the smell is at times very strong and there were constantly many flies in the property which wasnât very pleasant especially in the kitchen. The grounds are also divided up into garden areas for each property, so you do not have access to walk round the lands. The garden for wagon Linney is across a track and up some steps so you canât be in your property and looking out at the children in the garden as it is completely separate. As you would expect in Cornwall that the wifi would not be great however we had days where we couldnât get any WiFi at all until we drove out to a town. Unfortunately we also felt the actual property has been neglected and is in desperate need of some new furniture and flooring / decorating. All of the beds were extremely uncomfortable with springs poking out and the sofas must be very old with an unpleasant smell. The carpets look very old and worn too and you can see on the walls where someone has painted over mould to cover it up. There was also a constant damp smell and there is a washing machine however no tumble dryer therefore we did two washes which took days to dry and smelt very damp therefore had to wash everything again when we got home. Finally, the power in the showers was very weak which was also a shame. We felt we had to leave a review as we didnât want other people to book and be as disappointed as we were.

We enjoyed our stay as a large family, it was lovely to all come together.
The area was really calm and quiet which was lovely. The cottage accommodated our large group well. We were unsure about the garden as on the listing it never advised that it was separate from the cottage and as it was sectioned off but open through to other garden areas we were unsure if we were allowed on it all and having 2 dogs with us we worried they'd go onto the other cottages garden areas. I think stating that it's a shared garden would be helpful especially as we had 2 young children and 2 dogs with us. The kitchen was well equipped with everything that you could possibly need and more, which was really great. There was a funny smell in the kitchen which made us worry a bit but soon realised it was the boiler. The heating was off as it was either really hot or freezing cold. The water was the same in the ground floor shower either scalding hot or turned it a tiny bit to cool and it was freezing. The taps had little pressure so a bath was out as the water was cold before it got a few inches deep. We were going to bring these things up with the owners when they came by but unfortunately never got to meet them as they never came to introduce themselves or ask how we were getting on. An elderly gentleman had a lovely chat with me and advised he lived at the farm and asked if we'd met the owners but I advised we hadn't so he assumed we'd only arrived that day, we'd actually arrived the day before, so I assume this isn't the norm.

Just return from a lovely week away with our family however the accommodation was disappointing.
It was definitely not a 5 star property would rate nearer a 3 star compared to the property we stayed in last year. It needed to be deep cleaned right through, the extra cleaning for Covid of wiping down door handles with bacterial spray is good but the whole place was dusty and hadn't been cleaned through for a while you could tell by cobwebs in areas and dirt under furniture. Some of the bathrooms were not cleaned to a normal standard with one of showers been dirty and a few of the toilets not fully cleaned. The blinds on the back door were covered in some kind of stain or dirt which looked awful. We had an issue with closing the back patio door so didn't use it after the 2nd day. The standard of the pans was below a 3 star and not what we expected. Lots of things needed updating and were showing signs of wear and tear not expected in a 5 star property. Some things mentioned in reviews 2 years ago not been touched like the garden furniture and the back decking area steps need fixing which could be dangerous. Someone commented on the handsets for the gamers not working which we managed to fix a couple so they could be used. The size of the property was good however not a big enough area to sit more people on sofas downstairs to relax whilst the kids were in the garden. Good location for the area and sightseeing and a good play park for the kids behind the house.

First of all, this property is beautiful, set in a quiet area with stunning views from the upstairs living room.
All the beds were super comfy and the secure garden meant that our pooches couldn't escape. A very comfortable space with all the things from home you'd expect to find in the kitchen drawers! If it's on, we recommend the farmers/craft market next door at the Institue on a Sunday. We bought loads of tasty goodies here and also won a prize on the tombola. We kept the bird bath topped up all week and had so many birds taking advantage of the water. We briefly met Neil the owner, lovely guy too! Constructive criticism:- 1. The grass had been cut but the clippings had been left which meant that every time we walked outside during the morning, the dewy grass was walked in the house (obviously, the dogs never wipe their feet). 2. Some big old cobwebs in the skylight going up the stairs. Not a huge issue i know but some attention to detail is being missed here. 3. The back door (by the washing machine) was almost impossible to lock. Definitely needs some attention as when we arrived it looked locked but wasn't. Would i recommend Penhaven - absolutely! We had a fantastic holiday and having such a beautiful place to come back to made all the difference.
