What our customers say about their holidays
Bridget - Verified booking
This property was in an excellent location and we enjoyed lovely walks from the door.
However, the cottage was uncomfortable and nowhere near the usual standard of a rental like this. The beds were all uncomfortable, the sofas in the sitting room were very lumpy and dirty with throws put over them to cover the many marks and stains. The carpet in the sitting room had many dirty marks as did the rug in the conservatory and the latter in particular was grubby and not a pleasant place to sit. The kitchen was well equipped but two of the cupboard doors had broken hinges and one in particular was hanging loose. The worst part though was a problem with the heating. On our first night the heating came on and was very noisy in the sitting room with sounds of running water and gurgling. This was worse in two of the bedrooms including the only double room. The pipes there are next to the headboard and not boxed in so the sound was loud. I recorded it and took a decibel reading which was between 30-45 depending on the amount of churning so not great to sleep next to. I reported the problem the next day and a plumber was sent around when we were out which was good. However this did not sort out the problem and we realised that the thermostat was probably broken and the water was seriously overheating. We turned the boiler off and rang the next day to be told that there was nothing they could do and they didn't have any other properties to move us to. They rang back later and said we could go home and have a refund but we had builders in our house and had arranged to be away when our own house was going to be unusable. I messaged again and asked to speak to a supervisor as i could see on the website that there were similar priced properties nearby which were available for letting. I was told that there was nothing more they could do and we would just have to sleep in another room. I pointed out that two of the rooms were affected by the heating noise and we had to make the choice between heating and sleeping which wasn't acceptable. The property is meant to be for 6 people and we had paid for it as such even though there was just two of us so being told to move to another room and sleep in single beds si not acceptable. As far as the company was concerned they had followed their protocol and weren't prepared to do anything else to resolve the problem - just bad luck for us. We left early in the end as it was too cold and too uncomfortable. I would not recommend the cottage or the company and have sent in a formal complaint.

We were so lucky to have been able to spend the most memorable week at Beta Cottage in August 2024, with 3 generations of my family.
Walberswick is the most magical place to stay either with young children or if you wanted to escape the traffic and explore further afield by foot. Beta Cottage is immaculately presented with beautiful fittings, furnishing and interior design throughout. Faultless. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped with top of the range appliances, coffee machine, gas and induction hob and provided with multiple cups/plates glasses etc. The owner has also thoughtfully provided a welcome pack, tea, coffee, spices and seasoning etc which is helpful if you love to cook! All the beds are really comfortable and almost all of them have a en-suite, adjacent bathroom or basin in them. The rear patio is delightful with a wonderful sun room and dining area for enjoying a drink or dinner later in the day. There is ample space for hanging washing and an amazing BBQ. The location on the village green is perfect with easy reach of the harbour, beach, pubs/restaurants, shops, ferry to Southwold and crabbing areas. The Black Dog deli is a must, pizzas at The Anchor and dinner at The Bell. Other highlights included early morning walks along the sea wall and beach, ice cream at the Parish Lantern and Bingo at the community hall! Trips to Dunwich, Westleton Thorpeness and Aldeburgh are within easy reach. Parking is a problem in Walberswick and there are restrictions during the summer months as the local community understandably wish to preserve the village feel and prevent the blight of cars on the village green. The cottage is provided with a free car parking pass to the local car parks which are a 2 minute walk from the property. This should in no way prevent you enjoying your stay at Beta Cottage. I couldnât recommend it more highly!

Lavender Cottage is a beautiful old building.
The sitting room has lots of room for four people and the house is in a great location. The bedrooms are bright and spacious. As you would expect from a 17c building, it is quirky and you have to expect things like the internal doors not shutting and getting used to ducking your head to avoid the low beams. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bed linen and bath towels were crisp and clean. Sadly though this property was very let down by; * the garden which was a big disappointment as it clearly has not been cared for at all. The shrubs in the pots at the end of the garden were dead. The plants were all very over grown particularly a every vicious old rose bush, the beautiful apple tree is so low and over grown that you have to stoop to walk up the garden. To the left of the back door was a pile of discarded and dirty carpet. For want of a days hard work this could all be improved and would make a huge difference to the quality and enjoyment of staying there. * the house is in need of a deep clean, the windows most particularly which had dirt, cobwebs etc between the external windows and double glazing in the sitting room. * the bathroom had received a good âbetween tenantsâ clean but again it needs a deal clean in all of the floors corners etc.

We loved Beta Cottage, we immediately felt at home on arrival.
It is beautifully furnished, stylishly decorated and brilliantly equipped! Two essentials for us as a family â comfortable beds and enough bathrooms with decent showers â Beta Cottage delivers! The location is perfect for beach wanderings, wild swimming and mooching around the local shops, galleries and spaces. Just a day into our trip we felt rested and inspired â our eight-year-old said, âthis place just makes me want to create things and do artâ which sums up the space perfectly. The house has lots of great corners and spaces to hide away with a book and is well designed for socialising too. The kitchen is great for hosting, feeding and entertaining with doors opening out into the courtyard garden so you can spill out in warmer weather. On rainy days we were more than happy to be snuggled up inside. We enjoyed walking to the local pubs for food, drinks and the deli was a dream â the pizzas brill to throw in the oven after a beach day! The village has such a lovely friendly vibe and the kids played on the green in the evenings, safe in the knowledge we could see them play and no busy traffic. You will have a wonderful stay, whatever the time of year. Brilliant for families, but also for a group of pals for some grown-up fun or a creative escape!

3 night stay in Lavender Cottage over New Year 2022.
We expected the interiors to be quite basic and they were...partly in keeping with the 'higgledy-piggledy' nature of the 16th Century cottage, but it did feel pretty sparse and not very 'loved'. The highlight of the whole house was the stove/fireplace which gave a lovely centre to the living space and was why we chose the cottage over another similarly priced one in the town. That said, we were disappointed by the lack of 'welcome pack' (a bottle & Norfolk biscuits for some reason!) - much less than we have ever come across - and the complete absence of anything like salt, pepper, oil, milk such that we had to buy everything like that, frustrating. This has never happened before in any of the self catered properties we have stayed in, many of them with Best of Suffolk, and only added to the rather stark and unwelcoming nature of the cottage. In addition, the freezer was in need of defrosting; there were no coat hooks which would have been welcome given the wet weather; and in general we felt the cottage was tired and in need of some refreshing.
